I am just not sure what to do. I am using an old Yamaha CX-A5000 with an XPA-3 11 channel, I am currently running 7.2 at the moment. I have a working Yamaha receiver I can use as a trade in. Plus, the ability to use Affirm to pay sweetens things even more. I just don't know what to do, I have gone through posts, reviews, and forum like this and Amir's. Since my TV is HDMI 2.1 and so is my HTPC, HDMI 2.1 is important to me! I am SOOOO confused on what to do! I have never seen such polarization. I only have so much money and I just want things to work. Emotiva can promise an upgrade path for $XXXX, but I do NOT want to feel totally frustrated with my purchase until an upgrade! I just want it to work when I plug it in. I am thinking of one the RMC units. At the end of the day, it comes down to comes to value for me. I am SOOOO confused, I have never seen so much like or hate on a unit!!! Even though it will me more, does it pay to wait for the new unit and then testing and reviews? Does it pay to buy the current RMC unit with some of its issues with the promise of an upgrade path? A little advice would be appreciated. I know there is a LOT of info in this thread, and I have gone through it. I would just like to read some succinct pros and cons from those own the units. I am quite aware at the end of the day the choice is mine, but I still want to hear from the folks who currently use them on what they would do if they had to do it ALL OVER again! Thanks in advance, I do realize this may come across redundant to a few here so please excuse that. I don’t know if I can reduce your confusion, but since you mentioned HDMI 2.1 and that you have a budget (how quaint 🙂) here’s more to consider. If you find the current sale / trade in prices attractive (which they are), consider that to get 2.1 you will have to upgrade to a G4P. In the podcast Dan mentioned that the new pricing would be going up (and I’m making these model numbers up) — I take that to mean that when the XMC-3, RMC-2L, RMC-2 are released they will be more expensive than the retail of the current models. I would also expect the upgrade to cost enough to bring your total ‘all in’ price to at least as much (or more) than the new models. So are you ready to spend maybe 10% more than the current retail to get a processor with 2.1? Disclaimer, I have no inside information, this is educated speculation. Sorry I explained that so poorly, but I wanted to point out the possible endgame pricing. In my opinion buying an RMC-1 now only makes sense if 1) you’re going to upgrade and 2) you need one of the add in boards … or, you like the 4U look.

While I have no real issues with my XMC2, emotiva never delivered on DLBC and my ARC doesn’t work. The G4P is vaporware at this time and honestly the last thing you want to do is wait for them to develop and deliver a new processor. I’m fine with my purchase. In highsight, I would have wanted to buy a product who featured DLBC and actually delivered it.

So if we understood the podcast, ‘new units’ will have a new ‘Audio Board’ whereas ‘upgraded units’ will retain their current audio board. Though some details may not be known for the new board, what is the main function of the audio board? Is it just the 16 analog outputs? I’d assume it doesn’t include the DACs, or if it does new and old boards will have different ones? Just what is in the audio board, and how likely are there to be audible differences. Edit: Being subjective, the ‘audible differences’ part isn’t really important, just trying to understand the functions. Good question ; I tend to think the new audio board will include new dacs based on sites like this albeit from circa 2014 www.eevblog.com/forum/projects/multiple-dacs-on-board-digital-and-analog-grounds/www.eevblog.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=67420.0;attach=221761;imageNeedless to say the op amps chosen for it will have an effect on the dacs ; some ce's cheap out with them iirc .. It would be great to have a breakdown of parts used as was done a long time ago with the xmc1 as published by audioholics once ; that was an eye opener and appreciated

Please keep in mind that Few DACS are 'clean sheet' designs using somebody's D/A convertor chip.
These companies ALL publish reference designs. End users follow these to various degrees....
In computers? I had what IIRC was an MSI video card. Made by somebody else but EXACTLY like the reference board.
And out in the garage? I have a Western Digital amplifier. One of there DIGITAL amps. And on the reference board.
It is not necessary to know how much Original Design or how much 'copy work' goes into any given DAC. Just how well YOU like it....

Indeed... The room and speakers are the two biggest factors in how your system will sound. And the sound of the actual content you play is almost certainly the next most important factor. Vinyl manages to sound quite nice... considering all of the limitations it is stuck with. (But it does take a lot of effort to even reach the maximum it is capable of delivering.) Aah ; the still relevant garbage in garbage out spiel that Linn Sondek turntables have used ad infinitum ; great marketing and true. I just think that the room speaker interaction is whats important if all other things are good quality Dont get me started on why digital cds/files are superior to records wow and flutter skipping mis tracking stylus wear etc its off topic I'll agree that vinyl CAN be a PIA. Keeping records clean and 'pop free' is a 2nd career for some. Setup of a TT is detailed and some PAY others to do it....while at least I WAS good at that part of it. I had a Ortofon Cartridge that beat EVERYTHING I put it up against from the big names.....Anybody but me remember EMPIRE? But in those days....Shurer M91ed and some of the pickering offerings. (V-15?) I'd setup budget friends using a GRADO which in those days was a exceptional value at maybe 15$ to 20$ But I DO want to hear your 100 grand system / room using a SONY Walkman as source. I eventually found Tape Hiss even MORE objectionable than disc pops.....And I even experimented for a time with the DBX compressor / expander... sort of a poor man's DOLBY.....which I also saw in a stand alone unit before even cassette decks started being so equipped. A Real PIA to setup.....but it worked.....

. . . and my ARC doesn’t work. ARC has worked on my XMC-2 with each firmware release. ARC is very much dependent on the tv AND the tv's firmware version. Case in point, my Sony tv. ARC worked, then Sony released a firmware update and I let my tv update, then ARC didn't work, then Sony updated again and ARC worked. Also, someone here in the Lounge was not able to get ARC to work. The tv involved was one from about 5 or 6 years ago, the dark ages of ARC. Everything was tried, except updating the Sony tv's firmware because there wasn't a known update for that particular model as far as the Lounge Member knew. We found that Sony had indeed released a firmware for it a week or so prior to our communications, so as soon as the tv got updated firmware to its latest version ARC magically worked! What model tv do you have? Is it using its latest firmware?

Thanks in advance, I do realize this may come across redundant to a few here so please excuse that. I have the XMC-2, which for the most part is great. Sound quality is wonderful. Here are a few of the issues I encounter with it, which are a bit inconvenient, but I am still very happy with the XMC-2. 1) When switching from one HDMI input to another, sometimes it takes a couple of tries before it connects to the new input. I am using a Harmony remote and just make the selection again when this happens. 2) When using ARC and playing back streaming content (especially from Amazon Prime) from the TV, there are loud cracks and pops when you pause/play/rewind. This does not occur when I use the Xfinity box for streaming content, where no ARC is needed, also the Xfinity streaming is higher bandwidth than using the lossy ARC connection. The cracks and pops are a bit disturbing, I just press the mute button before hitting play/pause/rewind. Most things we stream using the Xfinity box to avoid the issue. 3) When in the setup menu, there is a lag in the units response to button presses made on the remote control. Sometimes this causes me to hit the button an extra time and navigates me to somewhere I was not intending. Luckily, I don't spend much time in the setup menu once things are configured. This is not an issue, just an observation. I've tried the Dirac room correction a couple of times, but did not like the results, sounded a bit dull to my ears. So, I have manually set speaker size, distance, and levels, and the results are wonderful. My setup is 5.2.4. That is all I can think of that we have come across. I would definitely buy the XMC-2 again, the sound quality is fantastic. Previously, I had an AVR doing the pre/pro duties. The sound difference (same speakers and sources) when upgrading to the XMC-2 was surprising, well beyond expectations.

EDITED FROM ORIGINAL POST.
Hey friends,
I have tentative pricing for the levels of this based on current costs in the world for parts, shipping, etc.
The NEW prices for the processor fully put together purchasing it as a new unit:
RMC-1+ $5,499 RMC-1L+ $4,499 XMC-2+ $3,699
Pricing for the upgrade to take the current processor to the next gen:
If you are an original purchaser who got the unit at the original full price (this also includes UFL members) = $699
Everyone else: The RMC-1 and RMC-1L upgrade cost will be $1,399 XMC-2 upgrade cost will be $1,099
Why are the upgrade costs different?
The RMC-1 and RMC-1L, along with all the other upgrades, will get a new higher performance Fully Differential Burr Brown analog output board. The XMC-2, along with all the other upgrades, will get the current RMC Fully Differential AKM analog output board.
The original owner cost is still $699.
Also, the XMC-1 processor upgrade program was so successful that we are going that route again. You will basically trade your existing processor in and receive a brand new PLUS version. This way people won't have to wait 1-2 months to get their unit back with upgraded parts and speed up the process. We will ship out the new unit when yours arrives at our facility.
IF you don't have any warranty left on your unit you are sending in, you will get a 1 year warranty. IF you have anything over a year warranty left on the unit you are sending it, it will get rolled over to the brand new unit.
You will get a 5-year warranty if you purchase a full price PLUS processor.

Thanks Nick! Does this mean that if you took advantage of the XMC-2 to RMC-1L upgrade in the past, your upgrade cost this time would be $1,499? Thanks! The $1499 price will be mostly those who purchase the processors now at their new low price.

I’d be willing to bet that, we the customer, will have to cover shipping getting it to Franklin, TN. Emotiva will probably pay shipping back to the customer. Just a guess, I’m sure Nick will verify one way or the other.

That is some interesting math. Makes me a little more intrigued with the RMC-1L versus the XMC-2...

I will say either scenario has fair pricing. I am very intrigue and wonder if this G4 was being worked on all along and we actually may get a good surprise sooner than later. Downtime for shipping in for rebuilding will be tough since weekends are heavy on usage for music and movie listening.

In general getting most audio products is an issue. My Pass dealer quoted me 10-13 months for an INT-60. McIntosh is quoting 3-5 months “at best” for some of their products. ☹️

Okay friends,
Another update. I will amend the first post with this as well as there are new and updated details to share.
The full price RMC-1 and RMC-1L upgrade cost will be $1,399 The full price XMC-2 upgrade cost will be $1,099
Why are the upgrade costs different?
The RMC-1 and RMC-1L, along with all the other upgrades, will get a new higher performance Fully Differential Burr Brown analog output board. The XMC-2, along with all the other upgrades, will get the current RMC Fully Differential AKM analog output board.

what about those of us that upgraded from the XMC-1 to the XMC2? You would pay $1,099 to upgrade since you got your XMC-2 at a discounted price.
