Finally it's here! But 2.5 has been working so good for me for the last 4 months that I'm worried to update. In stead of jumping the gun on the update, I'll wait to see the feedbacks. After waiting so long - I'll add another week wait to see if the new version really made what's promised.
Mine is OK with 2.5, except the clicks/pops and sometimes strange sounds - which can be fixed with a reboot.
we cannot go back - that's why.

It was actually Brent who recommended the cable: RUIPRO 8K Fiber Optic HDMI Cable 48Gbps 8K / 60Hz 4K / 120Hz Dynamic HDR eARC HDCP2.2/2.3 OK, I'll go over this with our new HDMI engineer and see what he says. Great news! Could not help myself and installed it straight away. Took about 20 min. The ‘updating fonts’ step does not go away and keeps doing it at each cold boot. Is that supposed to be like this? It says complete each time as well. annoying, as it adds time to the cold boot (energy saving in europe ). The number and loudness of pops had diminished, but still not gone. I keep a slight pop at bit rate switching. But much improved so far. Sound wise, it is seems better on the surround sound? Might be just the sandman episode i tried it with. So, not fault free, but good step forward! [edit] adding first listening impression on reference stereo. Was not expecting a better sound, but… it looks like i get (much) beter spatial placement on my Linkwitz LX521.4’s and slightly less sharpness in the highs. Is there something in this firmware that would explain that? Or i am just having a good day? Same experience with the Updating Fonts coming back after a cold boot |

Normally the "updating fonts" step will only happen once... or only occasionally... (It is required the first time but certain events can also trigger it to happen again.)
We're looking into why, with some folks, it seems to happen every time...
But it's no big deal (and it will only happen after a cold boot).

I did have a hangup in the update process, but per the instructions I waited 30 minutes (40 actually) and then powered down & back up and everything reports the correct FW versions now.
So far I see that HDMI switching is averaging 5 seconds where it was closer to 8 seconds before. That's nice!
I have noticed one small issue...
When watching sports on cable or streaming TV on HDMI, I will sometimes flip back and forth between my music server (optical 2 audio input) and the HDMI input's audio feed. With firmware 2.5, when switching back to the HDMI audio feed, this usually did not result in a full HDMI handshake/re-connect and the video would not drop out. Occasionally this would result in a full HDMI re-connect, but only occasionally.
Now, with 3.1 I am noticing that flipping back to HDMI audio will result in a full handshake/re-connect every time. I've rebooted, checked different HDMI inputs, etc... and tried flipping back and forth probably a dozen times now and it consistently results in a full 5-second HDMI re-connect. Thankfully going from HDMI audio to another audio input never results in a re-connect, this happens only when flipping back to the HDMI input's audio.
I'm guessing that this behavior change might be part of the "stability" portion of the firmware update, but it would certainly be nice if just switching audio feeds did not interrupt the HDMI video.
Maybe we could add this to the wish list for the next update?
Regardless, thanks to dev and the testers for your efforts on this!

Just did the update myself which mostly went smoothly with no issues so other than the reinstall of fonts thingy with either a cold or soft boot. Have not changed the video remains on with standby mode yet. Normally I leave my RMC-1L on all the time unless away from home anyway. Early indications seem to generally be more responsive and stable so far, no hang ups. For what ever reason I have never been plagued with the pops, ticks and other nefarious noises some people deal with. Good job Emotiva and thanks!

It means the sink and source aren't communicating properly. I have that same cable and that same message showed up when I used that cable the first time. It took me a couple weeks to find a setting on my tv, the sink, that made HDCP happy. It's not the processor, it's not the cable. It's a setting somewhere in the sink or source, or, your display or source are just not compatible enough. Now I will say that the cable exposes the issue, but HDCP will work just fine so long as the settings are all in agreement with each other. My guess is that it's more a display issue than a source issue, but again, they all have to be sending/receiving the keys properly. There's something about a powered cable, active, that forces the devices to be setup more stringently. This issue never happened with my passive cables, no matter the length, even up to 50 feet. |

Oof installed it and am not getting any audio output. I too am getting the Loading Fonts every boot.... I wish I had waited.

Ok...installed. Went smoothly. "Fonts" message only comes on with a cold boot. I'm using VRO.
Switching between inputs seems a bit faster. I haven't heard any strange noises when the audio switches. Will be playing with it through the evening.
I do have one issue.....if I use Standby, so the amp is not on, the audio from the TV speakers is very low in volume. Even turned up to 100%, it's low. Please check.
Seems to be excellent progress though so far.....thank you for all the hard work Lonnie and crew! Thank the new guy too!

Oh well.... Hopes and dreams dashed onto the rocks. AppleTV 4K worked as before. Firestick works as before SACD Audio play, as before Nothing from BluRay. Not a thing. Just a momentary flick of image on the screen, then black. Tried HDMI 1.4 & 2 Tried a Sony X-800 BluRay Reavon UBR X110 Reavon UBR X200 Panasonic UB-9000.... Just still can't play BluRays. All I see on the screen is "Unsupported Source" ....time for the next step. Unless I am misunderstanding the issue, I think an EDID switcher/emulator might be worth a try. I have 2 older 4K displays that are limited to "4K/60 4:2:0" and newer HDMI equipment doesn't seem to like that older spec very much. I was having a lot of connection issues with a few different streaming sticks. I installed EDID switches "post processor" in front of both the TV and projector and this stabilized things significantly. It should be noted that the emulators are set to the correct "4K/60 4:2:0" that the displays support - and logically you would think this should have no effect - but all I can say is that now I have no HDMI handshake or connectivity issues. It's all very stable. In your case, since only your BDP seems to be having an issue, maybe try an EDID switch on the player's output (pre processor) set to whatever your display supports? Updated my XMC-2 to latest 3.1 firmware.
all seemed good until I changed to a Music channel on Xfinity X1 box, video played but no audio. Worked fine before update.
If I stay on the music channel and turn Off/On audio works until you change to a movie channel then back to the music channel no longer has audio.
I too have seen the Font re-loading issue.
I have re-downloaded FW, used another flash drive, put on new FW on drive, Did FW update again, same result.
Reboot X1 and XMC-2, no difference.
Followed FW instruction to include Factory Reset.

I use the low power standby.. guess I'll wait for the next firmware.. Strange how on 2.5 I used to get weird distorted sounds(the worst problem on the XMC-2 imo) every now and then but I haven't had that for at least 4 months.
