Regardless of how it sounds and or what it lacks based upon Andrews review, which I thought was pretty good, it simple does not look like an $8,000 AV product at least not to me. Not sure what McIntosh was thinking on the marketing end for this one. Oh Well

Maybe that logo costs them a whole lot to make.

Even McIntosh knows not to go it alone, but for the money the darn thing costs, the alternatives look mighty good.

It has that expensive logo so it costs a lot.

$8000.00 for a receiver is plain stupid. I don't care what logo it has on it. Just happened to be McIntosh. You're just as broke if it had somebody else's logo on it. It is the value proposition, and this is a weak one.

It is the value proposition, and this is a weak one. If there was another logo on it it wouldn't cost $8,000. The money is mostly for that logo no matter what it's on. If it was on a 17" long 2x4 it would cost plenty.

Holy Cow 🤯🤯🤯 this might finally persuade me to retire my Fusion 8100, "The Little AVR That Could". For as long as we stay in the home we have now, I'll never be able to have more than a 5.1 system. Even if a 9-ch AVR is still overkill, it is less so than the MR1 and I am loving the 5-ch power specs of the MR1-L. Well done Emotiva, well done. Still looking for a proper Fusion 8100 replacement. I had high hopes for the MR1-L but it's missing HDMI 2.1 and more importantly Zone 2. My TV only has 1 HDMI 2.1 port and it's also the EARC port. I also use Zone 2 to power my lanai speakers on a shared source or separate source.

I also use Zone 2 to power my lanai speakers on a shared source or separate source. Luckily, my requirements are simpler. I have never used Zone 2 and 3 of the 8100 and I have no sources needing HDMI 2.1. Another AVR I had been keeping an eye on prior to the MR1-L release is the Denon AVR-X3800H. It checks all of your boxes, although it is rated lower in power and I expect the power amps to not have the same "oomph" of those in the MR1-L.

All
When I read the specs of the MR1L:
There is no ethernet connection. Is that correct? There is no built-in WiFi. Is that correct? There is no headphone jack. Is that correct? There is no front wide support? Is that correct? There is no DAC? Is that correct? There are no streaming services built in such as Spotify or Tidal? Is that correct? There is no phono connection. Is that correct?
Thus, I will need an external streamer and DAC if I want to stream music. Is that correct?
Please reconfirm that the MR1L has sufficient power to run the system above? I do not need super loud volumes. If necessary, I could trade up to the MR1 if you recommend it.
When I read the specs of the MR1L, it reads that there are two subwoofer standard connections and two balanced connections which must be for long cable runs. Thus, I can run 4 subs. Is that correct?
Thanks
JJ

Thanks JJ There is a built in DAC of course...from Keith "The MR1 uses the same Cirrus Logic CS42528 DACs as the MC1.." The MR1 is basically two units in one...an MC1 with high quality amplification added. It does have Bluetooth so you could "stream" from your phone. I would add an outboard streamer such as maybe the Bluesound Node (on sale currently). You can use the built in DACs for now and add an outboard DAC at your leisure. The MR1L should have plenty of power to drive your speakers. Having said that, I personally would take advantage of the current sale and go for the MR1. Hopefully that answered some questions....others will chime in, I'm sure.

The MR1L would have been the product for me, but I have one important issue: the missing headphone port and the missing USB A port for lossless music. I love to watch movies at night, when everyone else is in bed, but I cant use speaker sound; I have to use my headphones. I currently have a Marantz SR7012 which has a headphone port. None of the AV receivers from Emotiva have a headphone port, and you would be hard-pressed to find any amp/preamp in emotiva's line-up that does (except their headphone amp, of course). So can you just bite the bullet and add a headphone amp to the MR1? well, no, not really, because there is no multizone pre-out to hook it up to, allowing you to switch off the main speakers at the same time. The MR1 may be a model of a clean, powerful AV receiver, but it is not useable in my mundane home setting. And somehow, I do not think I am the exception; most people do not have a soundproofed home theater in their home that can blast sound without bothering sleeping family members. Is there some solution that I am just not seeing?

Quick question; does the MR-1L (or the MR1) have the ability to biamp the front R and L channels? Certainly enough amps in the box. 😊 Thanks.
