Hi Lounge,
I have just discovered that there is more heat emanating from my stack of PA-1s (3, center and rears). It is summer and the house can reach 75 degrees and I haven’t handled them in a while, so comparisons hard to judge, but I have 2 in another location that are actually on their sides (space reasons, seems fine) and they barely register any heat.
We all know heat is bad generally, so I’m wondering if I should unstack these as I do have the space to do so. If I had estimate, I’d say all three stacked are above 100 degrees and probably a bit more.
I would like to hear some opinions on this as I’m very happy with these amps and want to keep them going as long as I can.
Thanks to all.

However, I would unstack if I could to keep the airflow and cooler.

Not sure if this helps as a reference, but I have a Hypex stereo amp and a Purify mono for my Fronts and Center respectively ... so Class D amps as is the PA-1. They're rated more than double the power of the PA-1. I have a small fan over each amp. They tend to run about 8 degrees over room ambient ... so low 80's, even when playing music or video continuously for a while. 100 degrees is a lot more. Anything you can do to lower the operating temperature will improve reliability. It's a general rule that a 10 degree C temperature rise reduces reliability of electronics in half ... sustained long term, of course. So if you're running 25 degrees above room ambient ... maybe a fan would be a good idea.

stacked meant something different in my day. definitely caused heat issues.

I’m a bit surprised, I have two separate pair of PA-1 stacked for bi-amping, and they don’t run very warm, but are well ventilated. In my power @ idle thread, I measured the PA-1 at about 5.5 watts, so you’d expect they wouldn’t get too hot. In any case as the others say, cooler is better. Idle-power-post-measurements-here

I use four PA-1’s for my height channels which I have housed in two RK-1’s and use hockey pucks to stack the RK-1’s. This allows air flow, though the PA-1’s in this setup run naturally cool being class D amps. emotiva.com/collections/accessories/products/rk-1

Thanks guys, I’m going to unstack them, I just needed a bit of a nudge. I have a little space to prop them up at each level like the puck idea, so I’ll try that first. I know I’ll be kicking myself in the future if something happens! I wasn’t sure if this temp issue was enough to be concerned about, but now I know.
