I’m starting to see daylight, so I’m extremely grateful this won’t be a night time Hurricane. I will add, while I chose to stay put and hunker down, Idalia is definitely closer than I anticipated, which goes to show how forecasting is NOT an exact science, but has come a long way in just the past 10-15 years. Local wind speeds are now 24mph. The YouTube channel, “Mike's Weather Page” is actually in real time storm chasing “Idalia” and looks to be in the very near future direct path of the eye. www.spaghettimodels.com

Sounds like you've planned well with the trees and such. Stay safe!

Well I spoke too soon! My power just went out with only 25mph winds. However daylight is upon us, and I prepared for this. Looks like the eye made landfall in Keaton Beach. Our winds in Tallahassee are now from the North, which indicates to us that the beginnings of Idalia moving away from my area has begun. Still lots of wind, wind gusts and rain. Definitely seeing tree branches all around dropping, including a few on my roof. Seeing trees sway and swirl in the wind is most certainly nerve wracking.

hemster and LuisV how are you guys doing? I'm hearing that the storm surge isn't as high as predicted in the Tampa/Clearwater areas, several feet less, which is good news I guess even though things are still flooded. Is this what you guys are hearing locally?

Except for an isolated interior leak in my bedroom closet, and the power being out, I'm doing OK. The cell towers by me were out for the past two hours or so, so I’m just now seeing storm updates again. Local radar showing 30mph winds, wind gusts a bit higher and they’re calling for the rain to be out of here around 12:45pm. When that happens the generator will be turned on if power isn’t restored by then(I doubt it will).
Thus far I’m grateful as this could be so much worse!!!

Is this what you guys are hearing locally? We're still getting bursts of major rainfall and minor wind gusts in the 22-47mph range; I'm assuming from the rear outer bands of the storm. Couple of tornado warnings last night, but nothing materialized in our area. I haven’t ventured out to see if there was any wind damage; even our dog doesn't want to go out. Friends in Orlando, 2hrs or so north east of us, indicated minor rain and slight wind gusts; friends in Venice, 45mins south of us, indicated a very similar experience as we had. No electricity outages. We were lucky as it passed last night while it was in the Gulf.

Retiring next year with a new home build and going to include a whole home generator in the calculation.

Outer bands are still hitting us.... the blue dot indicates our location.

Luckily we didn't lose power here in Tampa. Prayers and best wishes to those impacted.

Well I only sustained a hole in my roof, but it is enough to allow water to get in so I had to get up on the roof and cover it with a tarp to limit any future water damage from rain. Already filed a claim with my home owners insurance to see if it is even feasible, I'm thinking it is but I'll see what my agent and the claims adjuster have to say.

That's quite a punched hole, took a lot of force to make that! You are lucky indeed that nothing breached the interior of your house! What about flooding in your area?

There was a small amount of water that made its way in to my master bedroom closet. I caught it real early and clothes on hangers helped by absorbing most of it. Luckily the limb fell closer to the time Idalia was pulling out of the area, so the rain was at a minimum as well. Tallahassee didn't sustain as much rain as they thought so little to no flooding, but areas just to the east and southeast were hard hit with flooding.

That sucks but at least damage was minimal and you're okay.

We had a roof replaced through insurance due to hail damage. Insurance will cover this and depending on how old your roof is, I would think they would not just "patch" it, but replace the shingles of the entire roof. If they just patch, the new shingles will look different than the old shingles due to age and weathering. I've seen roofs that are just patched and it doesn't look good.

So my insurance claims adjuster and my roofing contractor ended up inspecting my roof yesterday, and they found more damage than just the branch puncture hole. I should be getting an update from both(hopefully) tomorrow, but I got the go ahead from the insurance adjuster for the roofer to start when he can get me on their schedule.
