MORE manual frustration.
Just bought new HVAC for the house. At an outrageous price, but wonderful detailed install with ALL new ducts and registers. Heat pump.....multi speeds.....The WORKS. But the thermostat issued with the sytem gets HORRIBLE reviews so the install company included an ECOBEE 3lite. This is a terrific and flexible thermostat. Maybe about as smart as a housecat? But the DOCUMENTATION that came with it SUCKS out loud. I've spent a bunch of time going thru EVERY part of the menu tree and still can't figure out some items.....
Website doesnt help. And when I went to get the app, from Them, so I could program from my phone? While it is free, they want credit card information just to 'prove' I'm over 18 or whatever. What's wrong? didn't my dam check clear? Parasites. They'll be hearing from my lawyer, just as soon as he graduates from law school.....OH! I can't REGISTER either without that information. So the threat is WARRANTY BullCrap if I don't register.

Sure as hell trash talk the company everywhere if they don’t fix the problem. Its a real legal problem that a good attorney will fix. Sorry you and Im sure many others have to be abused in such a fashion! Good luck buddy

I was reacting to the comments 405 made about the player NOT coming with complete documentation. It seems nothing does, these days.
The next step is apparently NOT to have any docs at all. Or a stupid 'startup guide'.....For a while, some gear came with a CD with complete docs....
I also note that the Panasonic site lists only windows computers and limits of 2gb on the flash drive size. I think they WANT me to connect to internet for update.
Format of such drive must be one of the FAT system (File Allocation Table......) Not what you find with Mac OS....
My player came with 1.70 which is lacking only a minor update for 4k discs.....

First glitch with the 820 last night……
We have the Jason Bourne complete five disc set on Blu-ray.
Last night we finally got to the final film, and I went to the set up to select audio and the thing froze. After rebooting a few times and not being able to get into the audio menu, I did something I haven’t had to do in a while and nearly forgot, which was the pop the disc into my Sony Uhph1 instead.
The disc Played without A hitch.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong, but this is an old story that once in a while you get a disc, but for whatever reason screws up in one player and plays fine in the other. It wasn’t the reason, but I’m not unhappy that I have two players in my system, we’ll see what happens on the next movie night.

I wish I could say that I'm surprised... There are a lot of relatively trivial rules and restrictions about how discs are put together... And different disc players may be more or less fussy about how carefully discs follow those rules. I recall a similar situation back in the days of plain Blu-Ray discs. There was a certain disc that was known not to play on a certain player. And someone actually dug into why it wouldn't play. It turned out that the menu buttons on the disc showed a video loop... And the video loop on one of the buttons was a few seconds longer than the spec allowed... And this wasn't a problem for any disc player... except that one particular model... (Back then there was actually a website that "collected" reports of "discs that wouldn't play on certain players".) I have a UB820 as well... no problems so far... but I don't play a lot of discs at home... I still use my PS3 for blueray player. It works ok, but I'd love to upgrade. Any NON-Sony suggestions? Looks like the number available continues to shrink..... Panasonic UB820 working out well for me so far. i’ve also got a Sony UHP in the same system. I always maintain two players in the system for a number of reasons. Finally cut loose. My unsupported Samsung Blu-ray player that they no longer make or support. Just the other day ironically, I received an email from Samsung and they say they miss me lol well, what do you expect?

If necessary, I probably could have “tricked“ the 820 Into playing with the proper audio by just putting the disc in and hitting play in whatever state the set up was in. Once running, you could swap the audio on the fly, which usually you can do on most players.

While this isn’t listed on the Panasonic support site as of yet(I just checked), I just checked to see if there was an updated firmware available in the player settings and it is showing a version 1.82 is now available.

Just updated and not seeing anything new, so I’m guessing this is probably a “Disc Playability” update ?, just a guess.

My solution from that evening was to put the disk in my other player.

Yeah my 820 took a bit of time on both step 3 & 5, but I expected this as it has happened every time I've updated the firmware.

So there is one update in this firmware that many/most owners on the AVS Forum are surprised and quite happy about. It now has the option of choosing for player led DV or TV led DV, something the Oppo 203/205 has always had.

In order to get to the setting you have to go into Settings - HDMI and turn off DV if it's on. Back out of the settings menu then go back into settings and turn DV On. You'll then be presented with the choice of Option 1 (TV LED) or Option 2 (Player LED). Default is Player LED.

Hello, I updated to the latest firmware on my 820 but no matter what I do I cannot get those choices to show up. Could it be the tv? I have a Sony XBR-65Z9D. Does having the choices for DV require a newer tv? Mine is 4K and has no trouble showing DV movies. Thanks for any advice. EDIT: Found this on another forum: "That old Sony TV uses the same X1 Extreme coprocessor that a ZD9 or Z9D uses and therefore can’t take standard Dolby Vision through HDMI and can only take HDR10, low latency Dolby Vision, or HLG through HDMI."
