For those of you that haven't checked for a firmware update in a while, do so, as v1.76 is now available. From the Panasonic support site: 31/Aug/2023 Ver 1.76 Playability of Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc.

Nice to see this post as I look forward to the 820 Panasonic, which is in my sites.
Just holding out a bit longer with my unsupported Samsung…… It’s making “old car” noises( ha ha) more and more, when trying to engage a Blu-ray disc, but still works and has a beautiful picture. firmware was satisfactorily up-to-date before Samsung jumped ship on the unit.

I still use my PS3 for blueray player. It works ok, but I'd love to upgrade.
Any NON-Sony suggestions? Looks like the number available continues to shrink.....

Panasonic UB820 working out well for me so far. i’ve also got a Sony UHP in the same system. I always maintain two players in the system for a number of reasons.
Finally cut loose. My unsupported Samsung Blu-ray player that they no longer make or support.
Just the other day ironically, I received an email from Samsung and they say they miss me lol well, what do you expect?

I have a Brother MFC type laser / fax / copier for the home office guy. Works the charm and a toner cart lasts quite a while. Too bad they decided NOT to update the utilities for MAC so I can no longer do some things. Dirty Rats tried to 'obsolete' me into buying something NEW......

that # 820 Panasonic looks to be the real deal.....If they continue ot support it for a few more years, I'm IN.....
I'll see if the local BEST will do a price match. I've been fairly successful at THAT technique and have managed
to avoid shipping.......which is a tense PIA.....
JUST looked. BEST has same deal, so no waiting.
TOO bad that they are going to discontinue selling BR discs......in maybe 6 months or so.......
Netflix ALREADY has quit the 'real disc' business and allowed people to keep the last ones sent......
I still remember the 'day the HDDVD Died'........I think it was WalMart announed the END of that line
in favor of Blue Ray. The one or 2 Combination (BR and HD DVD) players sold went away within minutes....
I'm not current but would guess that the X-Box now supports BR for those systems so equipped......

They put the box within the box and got here unscathed.

I won't deal with 'Amazon' at the new ask of 180$ per year. That's too much......I would never use enough shipping to even break even..... And BTW? While my dentist ain't cheap, he is one of the best I ever dealt with. His whole office is good and I have gotten quite the education. He is a noted expert on the CEREC system where you can get a crown in a SINGLE day.......I've watched the entire process from computer scans to detailing to grinding to fitting to finish / anneal......Takes 5 or 6 hours with interruptions.....I BROKE one and he replaced with better / stronger material.......

“I won't deal with 'Amazon' at the new ask of 180$ per year. That's too much......I would never use enough shipping to even break even....“ not following this regarding Amazon? Can you elaborate?

It's referencing the new increased price for Amazon Prime. In case you didn't know... Amazon prime is a yearly "subscription service"... The main benefit you get is FREE FAST SHIPPING on almost everything you buy from Amazon... It covers almost everything including very large or heavy items like furniture and electronics... (The only things that aren't included are a few marketplace items and some really tiny items which must be combined to be eligible.) However... this can save you a HUGE amount of money on shipping costs if you buy a lot of stuff from Amazon. (The shipping on a single big TV or piece of furniture alone could be worth that much.) (A lot of individual stores now offer free shipping... but this covers almost everything on Amazon.) I've had it for years and I think it's still well worth the price. It also includes a few other things - like free Amazon Video... But, if you buy a lot of stuff, the free shipping is the big benefit... “I won't deal with 'Amazon' at the new ask of 180$ per year. Thanks Keith. I’ve been so busy declining the Amazon prime offer that this never occurred to me. I was once a prime member maybe 10 years ago for about 24 hours so that I could use the free shipping for something no memory now what that was at the time. Of course, every time you buy something they offer it to you and I’m always very busy saying no thanks it is a little bit of a pain that being said, I could see for someone with the death of brick and mortar it being quite the advantage.

I get a note 2x per year saying that something has been shipped......from Amazon. I have NOT been a member in a decade or so.........and don't remember even having enough stuff shipped to cover what at that time as I think 10$ per month......or so.
I can't post reviews or comments NOT having an account......and could care less about whatever else is free / not free with the service.......
For example? Crutchfield has the '820 Panny BR player for (round number 425$, a reduction of 15%. I don't know from shipping or TIME to my hot little hands.
But? I can drive to local Best and get the SAME PRICE and take it home immediately....and add in a new HDMI cable for <8$ more.

Ironically enough, the 820 that got shipped here had a manufacturers date of August 2023 on the back…… And it was just shy of the last update that I put in as soon as everything was hooked up. All is good and I’m past that first couple of nights of set up consequences which is always a bit of a pain. Of course these things come with all the options for configuration depending upon your system and your processor, television, etc. the only thing that was a challenge to square away. Was this high clarity audio option Finally was able to disable it. It’s one of those features that had an able disabled in the remote menu that you can access while the thing is running as opposed to being in the set up menu. It’s in both places, but when you go to the set up menu it will not disable. You have to go to the remote for that. Either way with the unit set to Bitstream I think it does nothing.

Sure......I'd use ONLY PCM from the optical for any audio........
Hows the PICTURE? That's what's important!

HDMI audio video out stream directly to the XMC1. There’s good audio to be had from the optical out, but these days the HDMI audio is the way to go for the best IMHO. Those days prior to the advent of HDMI I opted for digital coaxial over optical
