Not sure if this is the right place or not but it is about music!! Just curious if anyone has Sirius radio in their vehicle and what are your opinions? Or had it and got rid of it? ETC. :-)

I have had it for years, along with a subscription I could use with the app on my phone. I recently got a new car with wireless Android Auto, and as I looked into Sirius I realized I didn't need the subscription for my car. So, instead of rolling over the old car subscription to my new car, I just started solely using the app. I really like it...there seems to be more channels on the app than on a standard car subscription, and it costs less. The only issue I've had with that is that sometimes I lose my Verizon signal driving in very remote areas - just briefly, and it was fairly rare that happened with the satellite feed to the car.
I like the content Sirius carries as well as not having to change around playlists or FM channels to get what I want. My XM library of fav's is easy to toggle around when I want different content.

Mark I have had XM Radio since very close to the beginning. I paid the yearly subscription and then found that they were offering a Lifetime subscription which I took advantage of. Don’t remember the exact price, but it may have been $350 or so. Lifetime meant that you could for a fee upgrade your radio three times. I never upgraded. I purchased a new car in 2023 which did not come with built in XM radio and also did not have an aux input to connect my radio. What to do? Well as Mark said, the app works great and is part of my Lifetime subscription . XM stopped offering the Lifetime subscription years ago when they realized they were losing money on it. I’m grandfathered in.

cawgijoeNow that you mention it, I forgot that my new (2024 Honda Accord) doesn't have XM built-in as an option either! That was the first trigger to look at just using my app I was already paying for. In retrospect, I'm glad my new car didn't have it built in! Saved me a bundle! Mark

I normally let the trial subscription expire but when we got the '24 Expedition, and I let it lapse, they called and said they'll do a full year for $60 so I signed up.
I hate that I'll have to fight with them, or cancel, in 11 months.... Scott

I use XM for that...I listen frequently to these channels: Spectrum, XMU, Spectrum Discovery, and even Little Steven's Underground Garage (which has an eclectic mix of older music that's so rare that I've never heard a lot of it or had and forgot about it but like it). That gives me things I search out on Tidal and listen to at home. I don't use playlists in the car - I like to be surprised at what I hear as I drive and not have to think about it in advance either. Also, I often listen to various talk shows and live sports events while driving, and XM has a lot of the options I want/need. Mark

ETC. :-) My first and last experience with SiriusXM was from a late model used car that I bought from a dealership. With it, came a congratulatory letter from SiriusXM from my complimentary introductory subscription. After I figured out the car and went to activating get started with the radio I got nothing but static. Tried everything to No avail and went back to the dealership to see if I can straighten it out too long ago to remember the detail, of how it went bad but basically I was told even though I had the documentation, that “oh no, you don’t get that SiriusXM because this is a used car. Think about how dumb that is with a complementary ends you’re going to be paying they think their service is so exquisite that I would jump all over it and pay I never looked back

Here’s my long-winded XM story.
I used to have XM years ago in both my GMC truck and saltwater fishing boat. The service itself was OK and nice to listen to when you’re 100 miles offshore. But, over time they kept increasing the rates. I know, you can call them and negotiate “deals”. One time I did try and do that. “Paul” who was in India or The Philippines heard my wife say something in the background and called her a “b…h.” I came unglued and tried to cancel. Got hung up on. Immediately called back and got someone else. As soon as I said “cancel” I was disconnected. Happened probably 4-5 times. Either disconnected or put on hold forever. Finally I had to get creative. I called and told them a story that I sold my truck and wanted to transfer the service to a new vehicle I was buying. I did some research beforehand and knew they wouldn’t just transfer. They had to cancel one and establish a new service on the new vehicle (which there wasn’t). I told them I didn’t have the vehicle just yet so they canceled the existing service and told me to call back when I got the new ride. After a few weeks I got hounded by them constantly. Kept calling and sending stuff in the mail. So, I did the exact same thing to cancel my boat and my parents vehicle. Sucks that I had to bold face lie to them but that’s the only way I could cancel. Spotify and Tidal doesn’t do that. You can cancel online. I haven’t looked recently but last time I did you couldn’t cancel online. While I thought the service was OK, not great, I think their customer service is horrible. My experience anyways, your mileage may vary…

I found it's hard to cancel also when I cancelled a subscription for a 2nd vehicle, but it didn't take much. It would be simpler just to cancel on-line, but it wasn't awful. That was a few years ago. It was easier to cancel my car I just traded in than it was on the other car several years ago. Appears they "got the memo" Mark

I've got Tidal also, but I don't find its recos to be in line with my tastes for new stuff. And, where I am - terrestrial radio isn't that great, and of my friends - most are stuck in the past musically. The XM channels I mentioned are mostly in sync with my tastes but give me a fresh set of options and often push my bounds of taste. Whatever works for people, though! Mark

With all I can do with Qobuz and Room, Sirius is irrelevant.

Where I live terrestrial radio is very limited and cell service is spotty for my daily commute. For that reason alone I like Sirius. Though I also like having the Sirius app for my office Sonos system at work. I also have Tidal, but I prefer flipping around the Sirius channels. I find Tidal just doesn't get me when it comes to their music suggestions or playlists. I also like the Sirius app because I can play it off my phone and through the infotainment systems of rental cars when I travel for work.

I also use Qubuz and Apple Music in my 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid along with XM Radio. They all work well.

I totally agree with Tidal not giving me music selections to my taste, as well as using the app in rentals when traveling. I find that Sirius has enough channels that I can pick what I want, and several of them offer options to expand my choice of listening options in new ways (like XMU, Discovery, Spectrum, and more that I mentioned earlier). Each of those plays music I like including new options I've not heard that fit into my tastes. Those give me more options to listen to at home via Tidal on my main system or my headphone stations. I find that if I know what I want - Tidal is great, and YouTube works also. But for getting exposed to new stuff that fits my tastes...XM. Mark

To be quite honest I haven't listened to XM in a few years... but I used to have it in my car and, to be quite blunt, I was NOT happy with the audio quality. I also found that, while they had a good selection of channels, the selection on some of the channels themselves quickly wore itself out. I LOVE George Carlin... and I was thrilled to discover a George Carlin channel... until I'd heard everything on it ten times or so... (OK... that's not exactly their fault per se... but it is why my excitement wore so thin so quickly.) To be quite honest, if you're willing to compromise a bit on absolute best sound quality, then I think I'd go with Spotify. The last time I looked they had the best selection overall... and everybody supports Spotify. (I guess what I'm saying is that I'd see how well XM "wears over time"...)
