Actually it sounds like a solution - carbon fiber wool could be pressed to sound absorption panels without or with very small amount of resin (next to nothing), and installed into speakers cabinets. So it should audibly improve any speaker's performance. Even without using diamond as a cabinet's material

I don't think carbon fibres can be pressed in the a sort of "wooly" material. The actual fibres are very slippery. Sort of like nylon. And you can't use a little resin to make a spongy material. It can't be done.

HEY! What about Bamboo!! Ascend Acoustics has the Sierra1 with a cab made of bamboo. I've recently installed a two channel zone (multi-zone Squeezebox) in the main living room for a customer using those with an Outlaw Retro Receiver. One VERY VERY impressive bookshelf speaker! They came in dark cherry finish and the workmanship is just amazing. They are Steinway quality in terms of finish. I don't know what affect the bamboo has acoustically on the speaker but man... Nicest finish I've EVER SEEN on any speaker at any price! My vote for a new speaker cab material is THICK BAMBOO laminate with HIGH density particle board (the Canadian stuff)!!! for 1" thick cab walls all the way! Solid-State Cabinet Resonance, accelerometer attached to side baffle, 7.5v input: PS Cement/concrete is an interesting material as well!

[ ...unless of course you have a pet panda. Then you should stay away from the bamboo.

Emotiva speakers sales definitely will shoot through the roof IMO. Once saw custom made subwoofer with bamboo finish, was looking very good unfortunately can't find link.

Yeah I'd like to get a cab for a Rythmik Direct Servo kit (amazing sub guys!) made just like that Sierra1 glossy dark cherry. Dude seriously Dave has one hell of a connection to fab that cabinet. It truly is a sight to behold. I can't imagine Vance's speakers in a cab that looked like that!!! Friggin GORGEOUS!
Solid-State
PS it's also worth noting that it wouldn't be hard to find artisans is south east Asia that have mega experience working with Bamboo. It's also harder than any wood I know of and is as strong as steel apparently! owhh and it's a hip material in California with the Enviro types! It could be a huge winner Emo!

Bamboo is a very promising material that is spreading in many applications. As mentioned earlier, I an a ph.d. student at the danish national laboratory for sustainable energy. Quite a few of my co-workers are working on developing bamboo with the purpose of using it for wind turbine blades, thereby replacing glass fibre. Bamboo is comparable in strength and stiffness and much more environmental friendly. The great stiffness is probably what makes it a nice material for speaker cabinets.
