I can attest that Novisnick is a great person! I am 100% sure of this, but feel compelled to make a comment about any OCD humor. I'm certain that he and very few members here have any idea that the current ubiquitous joking about folks being OCD when they are nit-picky, etc is very medically incorrect and extremely hurtful for those who actually have this very serious and frequently debilitating disease. I myself am very neat/clean, nit-picky and slightly over aggressive about order in many things. This is not OCD as many people think. Unfortunately, many term it as their OCD. A fairly new term of OCD personality is used to describe this common nit-picky behavior. I have a family member who has had severe OCD since childhood. She has contamination fears (completely illogical as OCD is mainly a brain chemistry disorder) with accompanying fears and anxiety that are not normal. Her one of the four different OCD types is known as a hand washing, many who repeatedly wash their hands until raw to try to rid the mental only contamination fear. Many with OCD also have tendencies for hoarding, compulsive spending, depression and even suicide due to the embarrassment and shame. She has hidden it for years and stayed very distant from other than family members. Those who happen to see her anxiety/panic reactions and some strange habits in person, say to her, are you crazy? She usually has several serious OCD reactions lasting an hour or more each day, 365/24/7. She takes daily a triple dose of an SSRI drug which helps some. Finally, educated people are now learning that depression, autism, down syndrome, bi-polar disease and schizophrenia are brain disease just like stage 4 lung cancer is also a disease. OCD is also a very serious disease in many patients and no laughing matter!
Please there is no need for anyone here, including Novisnick, to feel bad, or respond to this post. I know there is no intention to be unkind about OCD, none. I only take this opportunity to let folks realize that it really is a serious disease and not just a personality trait. Thanks for reading and your understanding.
