Is the SVS PB13 Ultra a better sub than the AV123 MFW-15? I realize the price difference, but the MFW-15 seems to be a great sub - comparable to more expensive subs.

You need to search the internet a bit for data, but the PB13-Ultra is significantly better in some areas: built quality, features, output, and the all subjective sound quality. The MFW for it's price is a fantastic sub, and I wouldn't complain if I owned one or two. Is the PB13-Ultra worth the extra money? You have to decide.

Ive read alot about both these subs and have seen the drivers they put in them. My 2cents would be that the PB13 would kick the MFW to the curb. I have not heard either but my money would be on the PB13

I had a PB12-Ultra that I recently sold and replaced with 2 MFW's (diamond blacks). The duals absolutely destroy the SVS. Nothing against the Ultra, I thought the build quality better, and one on one I think the Ultra wins out. But bring in a second MFW, and there's no comparison. Also, the MFW is a bit smaller and the wifey thought it was nicer looking (I'm sure the diamond finish helped). Thinking about it, you can almost get 4 MFW's (with the sale av123 has going on right now) for the price of one Utra 13. LOL! I say if ya got the room, go for it! LOL

LOL Just know that the PB12-Ultra can't touch the PB13-Ultra either. There is a big difference there as well. I was actually very surprised myself, but the PB12-Ultra is a "don't buy". There is a lot of arguments for dual subs, but the increase in output is minimal unless the dual subs are co-located. If I had a tough room, I'd go for duals just to help the in-room frequency response. Dual MFWs vs a PB13-Ultra? I'd still go for the PB13-Ultra. If I didn't have cash, dual MFWs all the way. Just know that the PB13-Ultra will still outperform the dual MFWs.

There is also quite a few subjective reports as well. I'm just saying...

Craigsubs famous subwoofer rankings has dual MFW-15's ranked below a single PB-13 Ultra. Many have also come to find the same thing.
I enjoy my MFW-15 though and for the money i paid there is really nothing else i would have gotten...
Im considering getting the new Paradigm Sub 1 though...looks pretty slick,

The numbers I've come across almost always have the 13ultra vs. 2 MFW's as equal, or ALMOST equal. And like ya said earlier, I think room layouts come into play here as well. But for my wallet, the duals were the way to go. But if it was up to me, dual 13's would be ONE SICK SET UP.

Well... you know I HAVE to say the PB13-Ultra is "better" or I won't feel good about myself. I often wish I had dual subs. I wanted dual ULS-15s for their smaller size, but after a lot of work, I got my single sub sounding freakin' fantastic for music. Now I'm afraid to change anything. In-room frequency response is the best I've ever had and I'm only using the single band parametric EQ on the sub. Dual PB13-Ultras would be nice, but that's too much money for too little gain over what I have now.

I use a single HSU ULS-15 and I'm very satisfied. My room isn't real large and the ULS-15 works well where it's sitting. I also like the fact that I could have run it "wireless" if it needed to sit somewhere else in the room where I wouldn't be able to run cables.

Frankly, all the subs mentioned in this thread are nothing short of fantastic. Each have the strengths and weaknesses. It's just what you want for features, output, and cost.
I'd really love to hear a dual ULS-15s in my room one day. They are about the only subs I consider replacing my Ultra with, although the Submersive is out there as well. I have a rather large room at ~ ~6,500cF and I have large openings to other rooms as well. My PB13-Ultra just seems to work well, so I leave well enough alone.

Just my two Canadian cents. Originally I bought HSU STF-2, it was not a bad sub and I paid definitely not too much, but every time was listening dynamic music was thinking "it's a bit slow I should change it". Group delay was quiet noticeable and it bother me year after year. Eventually few month ago upgraded to ULS-15 (big improvement) but in mid bass area it didn't sound as expected, so I sent it back. After numerous auditioning and lengthy research on AVSforum I came to just a few subs (PB13 Ultra one of them). My point is - better to get as best sub as your budget can handle, without compromise! Other way your "not absolute satisfaction" with sub (or any audio gear for that matter) will poison your sonic nirvana every time you listen it and money saving purchase you may start to consider as money wasting... P.S. I've got single Seaton SubMersive and could vote for it any time , so good it is ;D

just want to know why the negatives on the "new" svs pb12-plus. the review in sound and vision looked really good and they seem (having not heard them yet) to be quite a sub. if i had the money i would buy 2 and put my front satellites on top of each for r+l since they would visually (if not sonically) work in my living room.
just curious......
btw... i did read the craigsub ratings.
very informative.....

To me going with dual subs not co located really evened out the room nodes and was a huge improvement in sound quality especially for two channel listening.

Dual subs in this configuration can certainly help, but it is VERY room/placement dependent. I wouldn't run dual subs unless I measured the need. Here's how my single PB13-Ultra measures in my room: (Sub measured with mains running; 80Hz x-over) It sounds far better than it measures.

Few questions:
- I currently have a SVS 16-46PC (one of the very first svs powered subs) - is the PB13 Ultra or PC13 Ultra a huge upgrade? Which is better the Box or Cylinder? (I'm tempted to move the 16-46 to the bedroom setup and get a new sub for the theater if I ever get some money)
- Right now the bass is rather weak right in the center of the room and unfortunately thats right where the seating is - close to the edges of the room its great. I've tried moving the sub around but in any of the "wife approved" placements its the same story. It helped a lot when I reversed the phase of the sub but the room is still tricky. Other than room treatment, what are my best courses of action?? A second sub? Some DSP thing like Audessey (wonder what the dsp is on the emotiva subs)? I plan on getting the XMC becuase of its room 2 hdmi - hopefully it has some room correction that might help me.
Thanks Chris
