i beleive its only in the concept stage as a possible project in the future. I don't think they've officially decided, just discussed the idea

I would add one to the rack in a heartbeat! If only for the EMO design

I'm sure the quality would be great too.

Would it be such an excellent player for cds, dvds, and blu-rays that would sort of compete with the ERC-1 with cd playback or would it mainly be dedicated to excellent blu-ray playback?

I wouldn't expect it to outperform anything else in BRD playback. I'm sure it would at least equal everything else though, so I would just buy it to match the rest of my gear.

I would hope that it would have the audio output quality of the ERC at least. That alone would help trim down the number of equipment sources. As far as video quality, going with a good upscaler for DVD playback is a must. I like the Anchor bay offerings, but the HQV products are good also.

I would also buy it. All Emotiva in a rack would look pretty awesome.

My rack will be all Emo (UMC, ERC, XPA-5 and UPA-2) except for the BD as soon as the UMC gets here. I know Emo would make a player as good or better then the new refrence Oppo and would most likely cost less. It will be #1 on my wish list as soon as I get the UMC. Lets hope they do it while BD's are still the best thing out there.
I'm fairly sure it is well along in the R&D but like the UMC has lots of hurdles to jump and if they announce it people will start going crazy and who needs that...

No doubt. Don't announce it Emotiva. Just put it in the list of products all of a sudden and list it as "now shipping". Watch the flood of orders come in lol

Honestly I'm quiet happy with my BDP83 and don't think I will replace it in near future. I think it has to be something outstanding that lots of people wanna buy. Truly universal AUDIO (SACD, HDCD, DVD-A and of course CD) player. It has to have Ethernet connector and internet radio support (kinda Squeezebox) with top of the line DAC (possibly ESS ES9016 Sabre32 Ultra DAC) XLR outputs, and ERC sound signature... I belive such a player could be more successful than just another great BD player

Lots of people wanna buy? Not me. Strip analog section, sacd/dvd-a, ethernet etc. More of a bluray transport with hdmi. I couldn't care less about streaming content, bd live etc. Just play blu ray and dvd well.

The Oppo BDP83 is a great player. They are also coming out with a less expensive BR player soon. I think it would be very difficult to compete against them.
Another strategy might be to use the Oppo BDP83 "guts" and apply an Emotiva shell to it. Oppo has worked with Ayre for a ~$10,000 BR player (not out yet -- see AVS thread) and NuForce for a sanctioned Oppo BDP83 mod.
That would limit the R&D and still allow people to get their Emotiva look. You could either use the new cheaper BR (?? model #), the 83, or the SE (or NE) versions.
Thoughts?

Or maybe just buy an Oppo 83 and Emo ERC-1, switch the internal boards, add a toroidal and voila ;D
