Not from scratch, but putting an Oppo in a Emo shell doesn't add much to the final costs. Let's say Oppo makes this player for around $200. The only thing different is the cosmetics, nothing more, nothing less. Hey, if it's going to cost me $599, I'm happy to pay the bill! I think Ayre/Charles Hansen (which is doing a lot of internal changes as well as a new shell -- for ~$10K) said that Oppo only gave them $50 off MSRP for the Ayre BR player based on the Oppo base. Not that $50 matters at that level, but I don't think Oppo's cost of manufacture is only $200. Mike EDIT/Links:Ayre DX-5 thread (@ AVS):www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1181755Ayre discounted price = $400Link: www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=17402589#post17402589I wouldn't either, if they were making so much money out of it. I highly doubt the changes Ayre makes to this player will cost them twice as much as the player does.

With media moving to the 'cloud' and there being so many BD players out there, perhaps a BD RECORDER/Player makes more sense both for End User and OEM sales by EMO.
I don't know if the margin opportunity is worth just making a player anymore.

Just ordered a LG BD370, its one of the fastest loading players out there currently. I'm going to try out the streaming. If it works well, that might be something else I'd like to see in a Emo BD player, that and subtitle shifting (for my future CIH dedicated HT room).
Still need my UMC.
