...more forward sounding than the B&K which was kind of laid back. Playing music at moderately high levels brings out a bit of grittiness. I've had to dial back the tweeter output on my Snell C/V. Not too happy about that. If I had to sum up my experience with the XPA-2, this is a pretty good fit. You don't even own any Emotiva gear. Why are you even here? LOL

Porscheguy, NT is the most annoying arrogant little poster (Amd I emphasize the little) that I have ever read.
Having said that, I too have enjoyed a B&K product; the 307, for many years. It got hotter than hell and popped like nothing I have ever heard sometimes when doing a hard button change but I really liked its sound. It is a touch "laid back" and I drove it hard for many years powering a 7.1 system anchored by the smaller Nautilus 805s and HTM2. I really liked its sound. I don't buy the "drive it hard" comment; other than it got hot...
I too got the upgrade bug and also wanted to have external amps. My first observation was the Emos where a bit brighter, up front and just quicker to respond to just about everything. Very subjective I know but a bit noticeable. Part of what I have heard was most likely just my ears adjusting to a very subtle change but there is a difference in the two manufacturers sound. After a few months, I am enjoying the huge headroom as well as how the Emo's just sort of run on idle, cool and quiet. They appear to be an improvement over the 307 in terms of raw power, dynamic headroom, as well as an even lower noise floor.
As for B&K, I did actually have a capacitor fry and I must say, B&K service was exemplary. I won't bore anyone but it was so nice to get excellent fast service. There may well have been some service issues but I didn't care. They simply took care of their customers. Now NT, with his cheerful friendly demeaner, I'm sure received the same service. Can you imagine being B&K. "Oh god, it's NT telling us how to design, build, finance, and run our company only as he knows best. Who wants to talk to him today? He's our favoriter re-seller....
NT, clearly has a lot of free time on his hand to argue with just about everyone on this site. Doesn't own any of the gear, understands the faults of every retailer in America, and every electronic component available. Most importantly he wants to tell us we're all idiots and call us names! I guess that lovely attitude keeps him making a mint in his chosen field.
On the other hand, I have a couple minutes to burn before I go back and make real money, without offending most of us. (Some, I offend)
I like B&K and loved the company. I like Emotiva as well now and am enjoying actually owning some of their product. Gee what a concept.

I really appreciate some of these comments. I've always tried to be easy going and polite in these forums, but this guy ntrain really rubbed me the wrong way. I have had B&K amps for a long time and they have never, ever been a problem. Perhaps I'm no audiophile, but through my Snells I thought they were smooth and articulate with enough punch to raise the roof if I wanted to. Over the years I've read a dozen or more reviews of B&K amps and almost universally they were praised for their sound, build and "bang for the buck". That's why I kind of lost it with this guy. I hope its the last time...... Ec You may very well have had 0 issues with those amps. And Im glad to hear you had a good experience. Unfortunately, many people haven't with that brand. Tweeter dropped em due to the high QC issues(They dropped Proceed too which has similiar issues) Thats why I suggested selling em off while the gettins good with them. And before I end on that note, little news flash for ya. WHen do you really ever read a BAD review on any audio product? Most professional "reviews" are highly biased by advertising dollars. I'll give you an example: My lovely Revel Salon's I previously owned were Stereophile's "Speaker of the Year" About 10 years ago. I personally found their sound to be "OK" at best(Especially at $14k a pair), but beyond the SQ "review" they are becoming well known to have driver SQ issues. The voicecoil formers on them are known to have seperation issues from the cone. That sure didnt come up in the review..........why not? Reviews don't tell very much, the best part of them are the bench #'s if even provided, but they sure aren't going to tell you about overall longevity/durability or RMA %'s.

Gee.....................doesn't this sound familiar......... Point proven. Fast turn around time for em to fix it? I'm sure of it. They have had alot of practice streamlining their RMA'd product I can garentee you that.

I'm not picking on Emotiva, but even they have had their issues with their amps over time. NO manufacturer has a 100% success rate. I've had Denon amps blow up, Snell speakers blow drivers and on it goes. Take a trip over to the UMC-1 thread. A lot of those guys are struggling with all sorts of problems. It happens.... emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=amps&action=display&thread=8857

Yep, like any electronic item, things are prone to failure, every company has em to some degree. B&K is just one of those companies that took it to an entirely new level and suffered from very high failure rates, to the point where it put them in financial jeapardy twice in the mid to late 90's alone. Don't take it from someone who saw the issues directly for years or anything....... And again to add, you took the first post I made the wrong way. I stated you were one of the lucky ones with a no issue product from them. The suggestion was to sell it off while its fully functional assuming your happy with the XPA-2.

Hey guys, I am new here. I work with hi-end hifi everyday, I work in Chicago at a place called "the little guys". www.thelittleguys.comI have owned B&K amps forever and I swear by them. I have a B&K REF-7270mkII driving 7 4ohm M&K speakers. I have 3 M&K S150'S in the front, 2 SS150 tri's on the sides & 2 S85's in the back. I drive these speakers to outlanderd volume levels and never once had a problem with my amp. This amp has been in my system for 8 + years I hope this helps. I am also very intrested in trying this new 400x7 class H amp Emo has comming out. Does anyone have any info on this thing yet? For anyone in the greater Chicagoland area, please listen to our raido show on Sundays on am890 at 11:00am to 12:00pm. Thanks Ralph H. 708-754-8844

porscheguy, ntrain, you two are so sexy when you argue. tchaik................ But ntrain is unfaithful ...he argues with everyone. Kind of a forum slut, Actually I only argue with a very select few here who are proven morons many times : One who swears by "THX" certification being so useful and worthwhile for the paying public, another who has intimate experience with specific Magnepan model speakers, then turns around later to prove just the opposite, then another guy who thinks B&K is rock solid equipment(when I was in the QC control/RMA dept. RMA'ing countless dozens of their amp products in less than a years time from Canton Mass. for Tweeter back around the time period the amp in question here was purchased )when in fact the gear is suspect at best from that time period. Some people just don't like my "internet tone", and dry sarcasm and feel slighted if someone else like me tells them something differently concerning their gear, buying choice or knowledge base(or lack of)if it doesn't come across warm and fuzzy with plenty of care bears attached to a box of chocolates gift wrapped in Muppet Baby wrapping paper. Reminds me of the Milton sketches personally...........

But seriously just specific people, or more specifically people who disagree, just because its "me", and then to add on top of that, disagree without any good intuitive counterpoint or reasoning backed up with good fundamental knowledge and facts. Like some of those THX discussions me and you have had in the past............on the merits of need or any tangible benefits of what THX really offers the customer in this day and age of AV gear. Perfect example can be taken from post #6 of this thread: Expensive and exacting "process"..........lol, OK. Well Im sure it does add to the retail price of the item at the very least.
