I have the slim version which can bitstream. But my Pioneer receiver doesn't decode DOLBY HD/DTS-HD so I have to set my PS3 to LPCM too. Anyway..I had the same issue. With it set to auto I was only getting 2-channel to the receiver. I want back manualy selected every option (there were several LPCM options with different sampling rates..I wasn't sure so i selected evrything). That worked. I recently changed it back to auto and everything still seemed okay. I get my UMC-1 on monday and I'll change the PS3 to bitstream...

I'm having issues with the UMC losing the audio lock on the PS3 then not getting it back. I've had to change inputs on the UMC to get it to lock onto the audio stream again. This happens when using the PS3 to play MP3's from the hard drive, not when using it for movies. It even happened once with a game. I successfully installed the new firmware as well, and I'm using the 80gb fat version PS3.
Anyone else having this issue?

I also am having issues with my ps3 slim playing music from the hard drive. It worked fine before the firmware update. I can play the first song fine, but if I use skip (which I do all the time) the second song may take several seconds to start. Then the third song will not play I jus get a crackle then nothing. If I stop and start a new song it is ok again. This is the only issue I have had with the new firmware, but its pretty intrusive issue because this is how I listen to music most of the time. I have it set to bitstream.

I had this problem with the old firmware as well, never got to check to see if the new firmware fixed it. Had to send mine back. I use my ps3 all the time, would be a huge problem for me.

I dont use the PS3 for music much but for shiz and giggles did a few days ago, it sounded great but I was having a hard time with the UMC locking an audio signal when flipping thru songs/albums

no problems here using fatboy set to linear. I can play anything and everything all day, no matter what others might say.

If it's two channel audio, try making sure 176.4 isn't selected. I had this issue with that setting not being able to lock on when streaming two channel. Dropping it to the 88.2 setting worked a lot better with immediate lock-on.

I got a new ps3 120gb since posting about my lpcm issue(setting in older ps3).I had music on my old ps3 but it never sounded too good, even on the umc.I set up the new 120 and started loading music. After loading about 1000 songs I decided to take a break and listen to a few tracks. To my surprise it sounds really good,I can't distinguish from most redbook cd's on my oppo.I have no delays, skips, pops it's much more convenient than the mega changer. The 120gb version bitstreams,I have no idea if that's it but I'm a happy camper with the new ps3 and it's audio output.

The new ps3 runs much cooler and quieter, the noise had also been an issue with the old ps3.

great. so all we need to do is go out and drop some more cash on a NEW PS3?
I don't see how this solve the original problem. It just hides it.

I have the slim and can confirm that it definitely has the 176.4 issue. I also tried to play a DTS CD and got nothing but loud hiss, but this may be a settings issue. I accidently hit the "video" button on the remote during CD playback, and this seemed to cause a freeze-up. I also discovered that the slim doesn't play SACDs . I was excited to finally use the few I have to their full potential, and I didn't realize until tonight that the feature was removed.
