If your display handles this correctly, then just run it to the display directly. Run coax or optical for audio and be done with it. Some people only ran one HDMI cable through the wall thinking their future pre-pro or receiver would do the switching. Some people would like to use their 5-hdmi-input pre-pro as a central switcher. I agree there are solutions, but they can be more complicated and more costly. I just have to re-think the UMC-1, as it may not be the perfect choice for me. - LoopinFool

The system is designed to port out 480p as a minimum resolution. Lonnie, Could you please confirm whether or not this limitation will also apply to the XMC. Best regards, Ole Willy Tuv Lonnie, OK, since you obviously don´t want to answer this question I assume the XMC has the same limitation. Sadly, it´s a deal breaker to me. Best regards, Ole Willy Tuv

HDMI has been a royal PITA for custom installers who wind up running component anyway due to all of the handshake issues. I feel the problem is that Emotiva followed the HDMI spec to the letter, while a lot of older HDMI gear may have not. It could be that Emo may have to back off and "cheat" a little on their HDMI implementation so that it works better with other equipment. Sort of like a "when in Rome" situation. I have seen this very thing in other manufacturer's products. (Video Processors) and it took a number of firmware fixes to get it right for the most part. That is not to say that you still don't hear the very same things with drop outs on those seasoned units on occasion. HDMI was rushed out to the masses not ready for prime time. By the time the final 1.3 spec came out, millions of units have shipped that really don't follow their respective specs 100%. (HDMI 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3a, 1.3b.....) It is really a mess.

"By the time the final 1.3 spec came out..."
And now HDMI 1.4 is a reality we have even more fun to look forward to!

While I am not an expert on HDMI specifications, I sincerely doubt that programing the unit to switch back to true pass-through mode when a signal greater than 480 i occurs breaks any rules. I wouldn't mind the UMC-1 messing with 480i, just don't mess with 720P and up.
