Interesting comparison between UPA-5, XPA-5, and XPR-5 along with their transformers - 600 VA, 1200 VA, and 3300 VA respectively! I take it the XPR has two power inputs since a single 120V/15A US circuit is not enough for a 3300VA transformer. Now a 240V/30A single circuit is fine. Per Dan and Lonnie: It will work with a 120/10 but really should be hooked up to a 240/20. 350 watts is a conservative number and will be able to much more dynamically. The reason why they knocked it down from 400 watts is that it would melt the power cords running all 7 channels continuous. If you can run a 30A line to it (and only it) I'm sure it will take everything you give it and sing with it!

I missed emofest this year. I had signed up and was planning on going, but one of my nephews got married on Friday and it was a late night with the reception and all. I would have had to get up bright and early on Saturday, and miss the gift opening, in order to make the 600 plus mile trip to Franklin on Saturday. I was just imagining myself trying to stay awake on that drive and decided I'd skip it this year.
I was there last year...so I know some of what I missed by not going this year.

Emo had a professional photo guy running around shooting pics of everything and everyone so I'm sure that there are a lot of photo's to come. Buuuuuuuuuut most likely they will need editing - and then review - and that will wait until everyone gets back to work - and today is a holiday here - and - and - and - and etc...... Plus - please consider: The kind and good folks at Emotiva all busted their rear ends getting everything ready for this event with lots of planning and arranging and coordinating etc. for visitors, food, tents and seating, entertainment - lots and lots of work!!! Sooooooo they all deserve congratulations for a job well done and a couple of days off to recharge themselves... They shall return soon - and ye shall be rewarded - I'm sure. In the mean time print out a poster of your fav Emo gear - tape it up on the wall - build a little shrine (add some candles and incense etc.) - assume position on you knees (a pillow is helpful) and do deep bows from the waist while saying - " I am not worthy". Repeat as necessary until appropriate information is posted on web. Either that - or - grab the "Honey Do" job list jar off of the fridge and try to make SWMBO happy. THAT way you will have easier time begging for $$$$$ to purchase new Emo gear with! ;D

XMC-1 will be a 3rd generation processor per Big Dan with a true pass through. There are better pictures available for later but I thought I'd at least wet your appetite before then. Yes this is still projected at $999. Thanks for posting all these pics. But I hope you have them like 10x bigger? Please?

I left it sitting on the counter of the hotel room. Oooops

Oooops I believe I recall you couldn't see in your room to find the camera with your power outage problem, though you could see enough to eat that Dominos Pizza that you ordered at what was it, 2 in the am. ;D

PLEASE HELP!
Does anyone who attended Emofest know if the XMC-1 is still slated to have a phono section? I could not see clearly from the photo posted before in this thread.

They did mention that there will be no phono section. Their reasoning is that so few many people want or need one. I would like to have one but I didn't let it stop me from getting a UMC-1 and it won't stop me from getting an XMC-1. You can always get a "relitively" inexpensive phono preamp. George

Thanks George. I presume the "nope" also means no phono preamp.
That is very disappointing to me. As a loyal Emo customer, I have been quietly holding out for the XMC-1 for the primary reason that it would contain a phono section. Yes, I know I can get a quality outboard preamp. However, it is not the cost of the extra preamp that concerns me but the space requirements in my component rack. I will end up with an XPA-5. ERC-1. XDA-1, Oppo 83, XMC-1, SMS-1, Furman PC, Panny DVR and Technics turnatble all on one tall rack. I have the feeling they might have known for sometime that they had eliminated the phono section. It would have been nice if they had let us on the waiting list know about this. I signed up on the XMC-1 waiting list due to the proposed upgrades, including the phono section. Too bad they put the XMC-1 on the back burner when originally it was suppose to be an upgrade to the UMC-1. I thought there were many others who also held out for the XMC-1 because of the phono section. End of whining.

Nope means that nope, it won't have one.
I discussed this w/Lonnie, and he said that it would not. I told him they phono section in the USP-1 is fantastic and that they should offer it as a standalone head amp for those wanting to use phono, and he said he has a design for that he'd like to offer. They didn't officially say they would be doing something like it - but it makes sense to me to offer. His idea was for a head amp in a very small box - smaller than the heavy duty remote for their CD play and the milled one for the UMC-1.

If I decide to put the turntable back into active duty, perhaps the NAD phono preamp would be a good choice... George
