Thanks George. I presume the "nope" also means no phono preamp. That is very disappointing to me. As a loyal Emo customer, I have been quietly holding out for the XMC-1 for the primary reason that it would contain a phono section. Yes, I know I can get a quality outboard preamp. However, it is not the cost of the extra preamp that concerns me but the space requirements in my component rack. I will end up with an XPA-5. ERC-1. XDA-1, Oppo 83, XMC-1, SMS-1, Furman PC, Panny DVR and Technics turnatble all on one tall rack. I have the feeling they might have known for sometime that they had eliminated the phono section. It would have been nice if they had let us on the waiting list know about this. I signed up on the XMC-1 waiting list due to the proposed upgrades, including the phono section. Too bad they put the XMC-1 on the back burner when originally it was suppose to be an upgrade to the UMC-1. I thought there were many others who also held out for the XMC-1 because of the phono section. End of whining. Uh, how about this phono preamp? It's tiny but sounds amazing and runs solely on batteries! I have one. www.raysamuelsaudio.com/products/f-117-CB

PLEASE HELP!Does anyone who attended Emofest know if the XMC-1 is still slated to have a phono section? I could not see clearly from the photo posted before in this thread. The demo they were showing at Emofest had a "Phono". I also got on the list Sunday for one.

They did have the USP-1 and XSP-1 on display that had phono stages.

You know, you folks are really laying it on thick.. you make up this Emofest thing and then all these events they supposedly had there and even start talking about the imaginary gear that was either given as prizes or purchased. It's amazing that so many people in the lounge can be in on this and not give it away.. Remember, if there's no pics it doesn't exist!!! ;D

A 46" LG LED backlit LCD, UMC-1, UPA-7, the new X-Ref 6.2 full range towers, X-Ref center, X-Ref surrounds (2 pair), and all of the cabling to hook it up. A 23 year old with no place of his own took it home. I guess his Dad was pumped ;D

Talk about the luck!

They had the XPR-5 on display with it's 30-lb transformer out for us to pick up and toss around - along with the capacitor section, and an XPR module. The whole event was fun, and I'm glad I went - I'll be enjoying coffee in my new swag mug after I get back to Minnesota...
The XSP-1 looks really nice. Chuckienut - it has a killer phono section (at least from the looks), and you may just want to make room for that and the XMC-1, and use the HT bypass.
I will second (or third, fourth, whatever) about the discount... Dan said if you have or buy a UMC-1 today, it will count towards the 40% discount for the XMC-1. I'm really getting the feeling the XMC-1 will be the final UMC, and be the processor to beat on the market.
I'm not a huge fan of the sound of the current speaker line up (and I spent a lot of time in that 2-channel room), but I will tell you all that I was impressed with the dual 12 subwoofers they were using in the HT room. The output was absolutely tremendous, and very surprising for their power and size. If anyone is in the need for a secondary sub, or replacement... consider them! Too bad they didn't have just one 10in or 12in set up in a system for a smaller listening room.
What else... umm... the free beer was good!

Thanks to all for the feedback on the lack of phono section in the XMC-1.
I had thought maybe they could offer a phono preamp in an RU-1 box like the XDA-1. However, I presumed if they did not have enough interest in one for the XMC-1, then that idea might not fly. On the other hand, with the reputation Emo is/will be establishing with components like the XDA-1, a high quality phono unit in a RU-1 unit would certainly be a perfect answer for me. I know all that room is not necessary but the RU shape is more practical for fitting attractively into my rack than a small remote size box. However, I would buy the small phono preamp in a box if that is what they offer. An XPP-1 (X-phono preamp in RU-1) would look great right above the XDA-1. Typical Emo style with blue lights for MC/MM indicator and switch, etc. I would rather have a full 17" width than a half wide unit that still takes up a whole space on my rack. (Jolida and Bryston make full width phono units)
I might have to consider the XPS-1 as an alternative, great suggestion.
The F-117 and other units from RS Audio look great.
Thanks guys for the ideas. ;D
