Dumb question, but what is REW? Also I have some specific discs that play full bandwidth pinknoise, so I have confirmed the sub EQ and xover dont function at all. Full bandwidth pink noise from a test disc will not play through the LFE channel unless it was specifically authored to be decoded in the processor as an LFE signal. Yes..you can play subwoofer test tones..but these are just filtered out from the mains, based on your speakers xover, and sent to the sub. This is not the LFE channel.

Ah yes, thats right room eq wiz from hts.......never used it, but i may give it a try........besides the software whats needed to run it? any special sound card? Actually my 2 channel full bandwidth pinknoise setup disc plays all the frequencies the sub channel will allow for......never had a problem with that.

You'll also need a mic. The radio shack SPL meter is good enough to get you started. Definately read through the guides to see what you'll exactly need. yes...but its not playing through the LFE channel.

The LFE sums the main channels unless your in some form of "pure direct" mode, otherwise it works correctly........I have been using a 2 channel pink noise cd for many years now for multichannel AVRs with no issues.

I completely disagree...yes an AVR will "sum" the LFE channel into the mains IF you tell the AVR you have no sub. Thats not what we are talking about here. Running a test tone through the stereo analog inputs will not give you a signal through the LFE channel just as it will not give you a signal through the center channel. What on the test tones disc tells the AVR its a center channel or LFE channel signal?? Yes you can test a subwoofer with external test tones but it doesn't necessarily means your testing the LFE channel.

I think your getting it backwards, Im talking about the bass from the MAINS bass frequencies being summed into the LFE, not the other way around, lol. WHen I run a 2 channel pink noise test disc the main left and right channels and lfe will output the signal. I mean, jesus after Im done calibrating and run a simple stereo music cd, guess where the bass is coming from? My subs. 2 channel cds arent specifically encoded for a LFE effect channel, but the LFE channel still plays all the bass when set up that way.

There is no LFE content on 2 CH cds so how can it be summed? So maybe you are getting output from your sub with 2 CH CDs but it isn't a .1 LFE signal. I'm getting output from my sub with my UMC-1 and Parasound 2100 with 2 CH CDs but it certainly isn't the output I get when playing a 5.1 DTS-MA action flick . So I don't think moodyman is getting anything backwards just that you are both talking about slightly different aspects of sub calibration. Bill

The .1 LFE channel will play them. Thats my point.

Thats my point. I think the confusion is when you say the .1 LFE channel will play them. I think of it as my sub is playing frequencies below my x-over point when I am playing 2 CH CDs. It really is not a .1 LFE channel when playing 2 CH CDs IMO. But I'm probably splitting hairs with this . Bill

At this point lets just agree to disagree.

i am not sure if this is the same issue that you were having with the subs, but with the UMC-1 that i have i can't even get the sub to work at all. not on the level calibration screen, the test tone nothing i do will make my subs work though LFE out... not sure if the unit is defective or not.....

In the speaker set up menu make sure the UMC "knows" you have a subwoofer... sorry for being stupid on this as this is my first pre/pro but how would i check this? what would I be looking for? I don't have a UMC anymore. I forget exactly which menu it was. I think it was in the speaker set up menu where you select your crossovers. When you set your mains to anything other than full I think that tells the UMC you have a sub. I believe there is also a subwoofer selection in that same menu...make sure it doesn't say "off" or "none" for the subwoofer.

So....Can anybody confirm if this issue has been addressed with FWv6??

Just measured it - no the EQ is still not working. But why would anybody want to use the graphic EQ anyway? It's a pretty useless feature. The whole UMC-1 bass management is still a mystery to me. I asked Emotiva but didn't get a detailed answer. There's also no routing diagram available. Measurements just revealed more strange behavior. Maybe my firmware update is corrupted, maybe it's not, who knows... Regarding the LFE confusion in the last few posts, please see www.genelecusa.com/faq/multichannel/lfe-channel/Best, Markus

So I found a nice 5.1 DVD image on the web that includes sub and 10Hz-20KHz sweeps for each channel. Can't find the URL but I have the disc (it was a free download, but I wish I could give the author credit). I have been using this with TrueRTA and a calibrated mike and I seem to be getting very ambiguous results on equalization (like I up one frequency 10dB and can;t see the effect on TrueRTA.
Suspect it's cockpit error, and I will try seriously when the firmware is stable as the audio does not always cut in with the sweep.
If interested in the 5.1 sweep disc PM me and I will upload an image (ISO) to a fileshare
