But the UMC doesn't have AudysseyXT32 or height/wide speaker options, so it might be superior than all AVRs to you, but I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Depends on whether its a matter of features, or of price, or of sound. I don't need an autoeq or space for more speakers. Obviously if those two features matter more than what can be afforded and which sounds better. For me its the latter, it was inexpensive and sounds terrific.

I was watching Transporter 2 on the weekend hooked up through my UPA-7/UMC-1 and all I can tell you is that this Emotiva gear kicks the shat out of my Arcam AVR-350 receiver. Everything is crystal clear and the whole family looks forward to movie night now! Thanks Emotiva...and a sad adieu to the UPA-7

To discontinue one of their best rated/built power amp makes no sense. jamrock It makes perfect sense, if people won't buy the damn thing. According to Big Dann, it's the least selling amp in their entire line up. Followed by the UPA-5. I'm just a sound enthusiast. What the hell do I know other than to change my rig just about every 3-4 years, hoping to achieve musical nirvana. jamrock Apperently, the way to musical Nirvana is not achieved with a 7 channel amp, according to enthusiasts.... Next wholesale change is approx 15 months. I'll be looking for a 7 channel power amp. Will Emo oblige? jamrock Well, most likely not...

I reserved a UPA-7 also for my main room. I'm probably going to get a second UMC if the next code fixes the little things that I don't mind but my wife freaks out about (she doesn't understand why you have to power something off/on.. which you shouldn't).
BTW: the XPA-5 is great. I originally had a Arcam receiver and when I inserted the XPA.. wow things came to life.

Just a way to spurn sales of more speakers and promote sales of new gear. Better off positioning your current speakers correctly than adding more gimmick effect speakers that aren't needed. Everything is encoded 5.1 still with very few discs being encoded 7.1. What matters is a a processor that supports the latest surround formats and that is DTS MA and TrueHD 5.1/7.1 along with a good adjustable xover and eq function to correctly set up your speakers to the rooms natural response.

I could not give a rat's ass if they go to 111.20 surround format. I have a 7.1 set up and that is far more than I need. If the engineers would put more intelligently placed info in the surround channels & give us true discrete, and more 7.1 productions, electronic manufacturers would not need to invent all this gimmickery to achieve a true surround experience. Trying to achieve reasonable 7.1 from 5.1, 2.1 or 2.0 is so much hit or miss, I have absolutely no interest in going for 9.2 or 11.2. Hey, that's just me. YMMV

If the UMC-1 could do all that the features/specs indicate, when paired with a UPA-7, would drive any and all receivers currently in the market into the dust. A UPA-7 with balanced inputs, when paired with the XMC-1 would just be out this world. To discontinue one of their best rated/built power amp makes no sense. It's just a shame. I played my UPA-7 yesterday just about all day at an average of about 40dB with 93dB sentivity speakers and it did not even get warm to the touch. I'm just a sound enthusiast. What the hell do I know other than to change my rig just about every 3-4 years, hoping to achieve musical nirvana. Next wholesale change is approx 15 months. Will Emo oblige? jamrock Jamrock I agree, I have a UPA-5 and I almost bought the UPA-7, I wonder if the latest update for the UMC-1 soon to be released will fix All Channel Stereo. I forget what version I am currently on but when I first received the UMC-1 it had a selection for All Channel Stereo. When I had problems and sent the unit in for repair it came back with a different version and now the All Channel Stereo selection is no longer there ? I love my UPA-5, it just sounds great, the louder I turn it up the better it sounds. so I am sure the UPA- 7 is the same. Emo, any word if All Channel Stereo was fixed in the next so called final release per the latest podcast.

I like the dancin' lights. Not sure why, but I do...... Me too. Instead of being engaged in the music, I'm engaged in the amp.

Party mode. I think my Yamaha has it, never used it so I cannot be certain. As Carl Sagan said "Billions and billions" of DSP modes. I wish they had some useful dsp mode(s) too but that's not on my list.

What is going on with the UPA-7s... I reserved one a couple weeks ago and then was asked for my payment info with a shipping date of 2-15-11. Now I see they are not shipping until 3-20-11! What gives? What kind of torture is that?

I ordered a UPA-7 last week and the Tech told me on the phone that they were planning on shipping them out on the 15th of Feb... Does anyone know if that has changed, I hate to be a bother to the folks at EMO if someone else out there knows the answer.
Thanks.

same here. I am hoping it is the case of emotiva having a fixed shipment and running through their stock and that they will keep our original shipment date.
Oh well, may be it is a blessing in disguise and i'll go for xpa-5.

To whom is on the fence about the UPA-7 I saw go for it with the closeout deal. I'm enjoying it right now with my older Outlaw Audio Model 990 pre/pro. The sound is excellent for the price you have to pay IMO. the UPA-7 allowed me to get into separates without breaking the bank.
