1. What's your favorite genre of metal? 2. What are your favorite bands in that genre? 3. Do you like polished digital production, good production, good analog production, descent production, or terrible production? 4. What's ruining metal?

1. Black metal. 2. Dissection, Watain, (old) Mayhem, Emperor, Bathory, Arckanum, Carpathian Forest, Taake, Avenger (CZ), Immortal, and Archgoat. 3. good analog production. 4. Ignorant 12 year old "metal-heads", Blabbermouth.com, metalarchives.com, ANUS.com, and trends like metalcore.

1. Extremely HEAVY!
2. Don't know yet, they're still trying...
3. Quality and High Dynamics.
4. See all of the above; there is simply NO dynamics in Heavy Metal!

1) modern nu metal (although death metal is also favored) 2) Deftones, Ill Nino, Korn, Slipknot (Fear Factory, Death, Morbid Angel, Opeth) 3) Polished and clean 4) Nothing is ruining metal. It keeps growing and changing and that's as it should be.

1. I really like stuff from all genres, from nu to prog to death, etc, but if I was forced to pick a favorite, it would have to be 80's thrash. 2. Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, early Metallica. 3. I just like a good recording that is not over produced. 4. Record labels and MTV

1. My favorite metal is HEAVY! 2. Pantera, Korn, Six Feet Under, Deicide, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Sepultura, Ministry, NIN, Cannibal Corpse, Anthrax, Megadeth, Motorhead, Limp Bizkit, Danzig, Slayer, Morbid Angel, Entombed, Death, White Zombie...although I must admit I have grown old and mellow and do not rock much metal these days. Pantera, old Korn stuff, and some Ozzy and Danzig is just about it for me, anymore. LOL 3. Good analog production, but good ANY kind of production is better than a lot of metal stuff out there. 4. Metal is either being ruined my my age, or (the way I like to call it) the fact that all nu-metal bands sound whiny and generic. Distorted guitars are there but that's about it.... I used to be a HUGE metal head while growing up and into my mid 20s...now I am 34 and not really into that whole scene. Every time I hear some great metal I always say "Ahh...I remember when I used to love this stuff...I miss being a metal head." And truthfully, I kind of do miss being a metal head. But these days I am not too down with the whole satanic lyrics that dominate the "real" metal scene. Don't get me wrong, I was once the vocalist in a death metal band named Wicked Minister, complete with what I dubbed "sa-tan-o-phonic" lyrics, but we never really believed in any of that stuff...it's just how those types of bands write songs. ...memories... ;D

1) Never quite fully understood all the classifications and all. Death Metal, Speed Metal etc. Some of what I like I would be hard to classify I think.
2) My favorites are: Queensryche (gonna see them in Myrtle Beach in November), Maiden, Accept, Dio, Manowar, King Diamond, Overkill. Still like all these but Queensryche and Maiden have stood the test of time with me.
3) Always preferred good production on Metal just like any other genre. As I've gotten older and my systems have gotten better the really bad stuff can be un-listenable from a sound quality standpoint. I listen to that stuff on the garage system while I'm out there working on stuff.
4) Didn't really know Metal was being ruined because I listen to mostly older stuff. I will always buy a new Queensryche album though. I need to get the new one as they are touting it as very well recorded.

1. I love black, viking and pagan metal, especially the Scandinavian variety, I don't care about corpse paint or if they sing about satan or whatever, most of the time the lyrics are not in English and if they are I don't understand them anyway For me it is all about the music, atmosphere and energy. 2. Immortal, Satyricon, Enslaved, Dissection, Windir, Emperor, Vreid, Watain, Kampfar, Taake, Krallice, Cobalt, Nachtmystium, Elite, Peste Noir, Kroda, Marduk, Melechesh and many more. 3. I prefer good production but it really doesn't matter, my all time favorite album - Satyricon 'Dark Medieval Times' is pretty lo-fi in the production department but it matters not, I still listen to it weekly and it has been out for 18 years. 4. I think the biggest problem in metal is the in-fighting between fans of particular metal genres, they are very rabid about their love of their genre and hate on all others which I think stifles band creativity, unless a band is very well established they will not stray from their genre and experiment or face the wrath of their fans. \m/ \m/

Wow I did not expect so many replies this fast! PS: Many good bands mentioned and I can admit that I do like the OLD Splipknot (most metalheads would never admit that).

kiss, queen, def leopard, sex pistols, deep purple, black sabbath, ac/dc..
looking at the current metal bands I would say to many tribute bands out there to really say to many nothing has changed since the early 80's to warrant commenting on!!!!

kiss, queen, def leopard, sex pistols, deep purple, black sabbath, ac/dc.. Sid Vicious would turn in his grave if he heard the Sex Pistols described as metal! Queen aren't exactly metal either. I also do like both bands above.

there isn't much difference hard rock or metal, it's just a label...

I feel left out, the only thing close to metal I enjoyed was Deep Purple and haven't heard any of theirs in ages.

Still.. I wouldn't consider them as a metal band. No. Not in the least. Queen (and Queensryche) are prog rock perhaps. THIS is a metal band: And this: Oh, and for iceman, this:

Queen, Def Lepard, Kiss, Sex Pistols.......not metal. Kiss and DL are pop. Long hair and a stack of Marshalls does not a metal band make.
Sex Pistols are about as punk as you can get. Punk and metal are like oil and water.
