Does this unit have Dolby Volume? My guess is the UMC-200 will have Dolby Volume since the UMC-1 had it. I don't own a UMC-1, but the UMC-1 owner's manual, pages 9-10, reflects info on Dolby Volume.

From all indications, not the least of which is the DSP architecture, these are two different platforms so the features in the UMC 1 are probably not an indication of what we'll see on the UMC 2. This is another reason, again, why having the manual would be nice for all of us.

Agreed, I hope the XMC-1 manual is out before we commit on pre-orders of that device. Dolby Volume, or some variant would be a must have for me. I listen to streaming sources, and the darn commercials are always blasting between tracks. Re the UMC-200, my thoughts on Dolby Volume are only a guess, based on the assumption you rarely see manufacturers go backwards on features.

@emovac: Point taken, you are right of course and I was not precise enough. :-) klinemj: Thanks for your answer! Do you remember how far you could modify one selected frequency point? E.g. max. +6 or -6dB? I hope for at least -12dB... The GEQ in my current PR-SC 886 is already pretty useful but -6dB is not enough in my room. As I measured and calibrated some cars and home cinemas of friends I learned the value of a good EQ. So I considered getting a separate DSP or perhaps a Rotel RSP-1572 - but that has it´s own ton of bugs... So I am very excited about the UMC-200 (and also the 500). A good EQ at that pricepoint would be killer for me... :-)

I think the UMC-200 looks very good, the whole package is quiet attractive. That makes me even more exited in regards to the UMC-500.

Sometimes wish I had kept it, but hated the source switching.

Thanks for your help. I am a complete noob. I am going to buy this barring a terrible review. Nothing wrong with being a "noob". You'll find that many of the folks here will go out of their way to help you along. The UMC-200 is an excellent choice as a place to start. As with any product, you're bound to find someone who hates it, but you need to understand that those are the voices that you're gonna hear the loudest. Do also understand that Emotiva gives you a full 30 day satisfaction guarantee. Try it out in your own home, in your own system, and if your not happy with it, return it for a full refund. We could tell you that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but you might think otherwise..... Since you're just starting out, and joining the Emotiva family to boot, please do tell what else you've got going on in your system..... I have a budget set of speakers right now. They are the Andrew Jones designed Pioneer (2) FS-51, (1) C21, and (2) BS-21. I was on a college budget at that time. Now I have a job and will be looking to upgrade in the middle of next year. I am going to run all of these speakers with a UPA-500 that I will be buying in the next couple of days. I am in the process of finding a sub. I want one that will work with this system and the next system I get. I was looking at Emotiva, Epik, SVS,..

This is pry subjective but judging by the specs how would this compare from a pure audio processing standpoint to my Onkyo PR–SC5508. Mainly HT.

Did they speak of a DV variant which controls volume levels? DV is fairly standard in many other models.

Excellent, I don't use most of the features and I was really thinking of unloading the Onkyo to get top dollar and grab a UMC-200 to get the 25% off the XMC-1.

How about firmware updates for the UMC-1? He will never answer that question as he doesnt care about the UMC-1 anymore or the people that own them and still have problems. But we are supposed to forget all that and put our faith in buying a new product? They can fix there issues with this unit if they try but they dont want to put any money into it. Bad business decision on their part. My company had major software isses with their product and fixed them all so that they could keep their reputation and reliability. Obvous Emotiva is banking on us forgetting about the issues we face everyday while our UMC-1 is running.

Maybe your particular issues will get the exposure they deserve vs just speculating here on the financial plans of a private company.

Actually, bootman does not work for Emotiva nor is he paid for advertising, marketing, or defending Emotiva. To suggest that he is a shill without any hard evidence is rather distasteful.
I understand that you're frustrated with certain unresolved UMC-1 issues. There are others in the same boat. This product has retired and I doubt we will see any further updates for the device. Provided you have the latest firmware installed on your UMC-1, I would contact Emotiva and inform them on your position and outstanding issues.

(not audio related though) But I still would like to help you but it appears you don't really want help. No biggie.
