Did anybody ever figure out how much class A this thing has? That "thing" has 15-20 watts of class A power and sounds no different when it goes to AB. Why do you ask?

My apologies to the XPR for calling it a "thing"...... I was curious with my speakers being 92 efficient if I would always be in class A. Would the amp get as hot as the xpa-1l's that I had.

Just kidding you ! Well 92 db is pretty efficient so I would think they would stay in class A at least in lower to moderate volumes. They run pretty cold, in fact the XPA-1's I had ran pretty cool too unless I really drove them... The XPR-1's are "kinda" overkill for most speakers but they do have mind boggling dynamics. They sound great, but so do most Emo amps..

Here was emotiva's response to that.
"Hello Jeff, the XPR-1 is pure Class A/B output from watt 1. There is no rating in Class A.
Vincent Chen Technical Support Emotiva Audio Corporation"

The heat the amp produces depends on...first....idle watts, which produce NO sound.....just heat. Next consideration is efficiency. 'A' amps are Very Low efficiency....I've heard 25%, so that is a floor under how much heat it produces. 'A' amps also use a constant amount of power. However, when it slides into A/B the I'd expect the power use will....or should....go up.
As for temperture? That depends mainly on the WEIGHT of the amp. If you had a 25watt 'A' amp at 100lb, it's likely to be warm but not hot... Same amp power at 25lb would cook itself in short order. Heatsinks are bulky, heavy and expensive to buy and ship.
For testing purposes, I'd recommend a Kill-a-Watt plug in meter. This meter is INEXPENSIVE and may still be available for 25$ With that you can measure how many watts your amp consumes under various conditions from idle to 'full blast'. You can even measure a devices Power Factor which is a function of how reactive a load it is....You get Billed for Watts but Use VA.....which goes up as a function of 'bad' power factor.

The XPR-1 stays very cool from what I've heard. It's not a class A oven at 1 watt. I've measured my XPR-5 at idle and it barely gets warm. Only 65-85 watts depending on temps. I'd guess the XPR-1 is similar. Killawatts are great toys.

Anybody see the sale price of the XPR-1, it's gone up $200.00. Really glad I got mine already! But it is still a great value!
Peace,
Nick

Looks like all the XPR-series amps are up in price. Anyone on the fence better get one now. Looks like even at the "sale price" the price is higher. Once the "sale" is over expect to pay more. I tought it was a typo at first.

I have no idea as to what to think about that, I guess they just cut the price too much in there opinion,

Wtf. The xpr5 on sale is more than it used to be regular price. Thats a bug price hike
And on topic garbulky told me the xpa1's do 10-20 watts in class A. Is this also false? Are they also pure class A/B?
Would it even make sense that the xpa has class A abd the xpr doesnt?

The amps ARE class A/B. And switch away from pure class A after 10 watts. Anybody feel free to tell me otherwise. But as for the XPR-1 I thought I heard they do 20 watts in class A per monoblock. Now I'm hearing different? The world is going crazy I tell you

Yep, the whole XPR-series got a price increase. I wonder if the XPR-7 will also be more than the announced $2499 now when arriving.

The xpr1 used to be 1500 apiece retail and now the sale price is is more than the old retail. Am I remebering this correctly? That's bad to jack the price and then put it on sale.....

Why jack up the price in the middle of "sale"? More tomfoolery if you ask me. I totally get a price increase in 2014 but in the middle of the holiday sale? Black friday sale indeed.
