Surprisingly my Denon 3808 does this automatically, I can set it to run full range when it gets a stereo signal and crossover at 80hz for multi (even if its the same HDMI input for both). A nice feature for sure but if I can get the same results on the XMC1 with the push of a button (changing presets) thats not so bad either. Also, if you want no bass management, eq, etc for 2 channel, just set the default setting for 2.0 mode to Reference Stereo. Then you get a pure signal with no processing at all.

Hi !
I am about to purchase the XMC1 but I still have some doubts about it (mainly because I live in Spain and 30 day trial is not an option).
This is why, my actual setup is 7.4:
- Onkyo PRSC5508 - Amplifiers Hypex Modules - Eq. MiniDSP - JBL Synthesis Arrar 1400-880-800-1500
I have 4 subwoofers in sub out 1 (running through the MiniDsp) and one buttkicker in sub out 2.
Will I have any big improvements with Dirac?, I mean, I already made the whole eq in the system with the MiniDsp and the results are more than satisfying.
I am hoping to find somebody with a similar setup in order to know if there is any significant improvement
Thanks in advance

I have a new question. Going into Setup --> Speakers --> Levels my XMC always defaults back to Left Speaker and then starts the Test Tone when I enter the 65, 75, 85dB and Off External settings, even though I set the XMC to Off External after checking levels beforehand. When I go back in again the XMC has defaulted back to Left Speaker and of course the test tone begins and I have to select Off External again. It would be nice if Off External would stay as the setting when you just want to double check to see what the dB settings are for each speaker.

Thanks I already downloaded the Trial version, but for some reason I am having issues with the sound card (never happened before or with the other players I have) Did you install and run their virtual sound device along with the program? Hi The problem was with the ASIO configuration, therefore I had to use Kernel Streaming. I already ran the program and I sense that the bass is much boomier now. Remember that I had everything eq with MiniDsp and REW. I have only listed to 5 songs but I could manage to do the comparison on the fly and I prefer the manual eq that I did. To be honest my system is quite complex and that might be the reason. Thanks for your answers !

Is it possible to have vidéo from an HDMI input and have the sound from the USB(xmc-1 used as a soundcard) at the same time? With the umc-1 you could have video from hdmi and audio from an analog input at the same time. Thanks

Off the wall question....I was just looking at the picture of the remote on the product page and noticed one of the buttons is labeled "loudness." What does that button actually do?

It increases the loudness! I don't know by how much. I can have a look later tonight. I don't use this button but I believe it acts much like a power button - i.e. pressing it once my increase the loudness, pressing it again resets to previous volume.

It's for loudness compensation. Increases the bass and treble at lower volumes according to the Fletcher - Munson curves. And it's a toggle. Press for on, press again for off.

Ah okay, kind of like a manual Dolby night volume thing. Interesting.
Back in the day "loudness" really meant louder, at least on all the cheap equipment they used to put it on. I think every kind of boom box had it at one point.
Thanks for the answer.

I think every kind of boom box had it at one point. Thanks for the answer. The XMC also has a Midnight mode that would be more like the Dolby Volume function. It basically compresses the dynamic range to keep the volume more even for listening at night and not disturbing others. Loudness compensation should have no effect a high volume levels and more at lower and lower levels. It used to be a regular thing on receivers and preamps years ago but proper implementation was not so common. Very often they simply boosted the bass and treble by some preset amount no matter the volume setting. The net result was very similar to an overall volume boost.

I was happy to know that the XMC had loudness compensation. The reality of its use in my system is that it goes unused. My first experience with loudness compensation was on a, now 51 year old Sherwood stereo receiver from 1963! It's great to have if.....you have no subwoofer. That and the treble control are superior alternates, in my view. I guess it depends on your setup of course and in mine using it had less than ideal results.

Has anyone else encountered an issue using an Apple TV with the XMC-1? If I switch input on the XMC-1 away from the ATV and then go back to it, I get an error on the Television reporting no HDMI input signal found. If I restart the ATV while connected to the HDMI input of the XMC-1 the same thing happens. In order to get it working, I have to restart the ATV with it disconnected from the XMC-1 HDMI input, wait for the ATV to finish it's restart procedure fully, then reconnect to the XMC-1 HDMI input. The XMC-1 is running the latest (v1.3) firmware and the ATV has had at least 2 successive updates during the time I have had the XMC-1 with no improvement to the problem. The ATV is about 2 years old from memory. (Incidentally, I never had any problem with this ATV when I was using the UMC-1)

I took some measurements a while back of what the loudness compensation is doing. Purple is at -40, and green is at 0.

Hello users, question about the trigger programming on the XMC-1 can we program a trigger to activate without changing input settings? on a button or something? I need to turn on the Mini-X for my zone 2 on demand, and I'm happy with the input replicating the main zone. Is there a way to do that? Zone 2 has to be a real zone 2 in my case ( I am used to having 3 zones) Thanks in advance for the answer!

No way that I know of to change a trigger state with nothing but a button press. The only way to change trigger states without changing an input is to plug in headphones (to switch triggers off) or to change the number of active channels like going from stereo to multi-channel material.
