I need a better avr. Not interested in atmos, 3d, or 4k. Want to spend from 500-700$ Also needs trigger outs, 2 hdmi outs and preouts.
What should I look for? Maybe a marantz 7007, denon 4311, pioneer elite sc85? I'm thinking maybe I could find a refurbished since I don't want the new technology. I just want a good sounding avr with decent power.
All suggestions welcome.

Marantz if you want better SQ than Denon.. they're cousins but Marantz has better SQ, IMHO.

I've always enjoyed Harmon-Kardon and Yamaha. But if you choose either of these, get their cheapest. The low-powered AVRs generally sound BETTER than the higher-powered ones. No kidding.

I find yamaha kind of confusing with all its adjustments. I had a yamaha aventage 2010 but sold it to the guy that bought my house.
I have klipsch towers the newer rp series. If that makes any difference. I would like something that may help tame the sibilance. Maybe a brand that has a warmer sound?

Onkyo tx nr838 599$ Marantz 5009. 419$ Yamaha 2010. 499$
Ebay... Pioneer elite sc82. 650$
Any others? ... I lost my car keys yesterday which just found out cost 200$ dang it. It's making me lean towards the marantz 5009 now

I've found marantz to have the "warmest" sound of the receivers I've heard. Pioneer room correction is garbage..(at least in my experiences) but they're powerful and have oodles of features. I have a buddy with a lower end Yamaha and I was fairly impressed for what it was.. good feature set and functional auto eq.

REALLY not kidding about the low-powered AVRs sound better. Whatever brand you choose, listen CLOSELY to the lowest model in the line before spending more...

It sounds weak compared to the yamaha 2010 I had. Currently using a Denon avr e200. The yamaha was in another league by alot! This denin sounds and looks like a fisher price toy. lol. I had pioneer elite. I do agree their room correction isn't the best, but it did sound good and with an added xpa5 it was even better. I'm still in an apartment for the time being so room treatments are not happening here. I just want better sound for now.

I wouldn't be expecting amazing SQ out of a boxstore AVR, but that's just me, my Fusion 8100 sounded good before it died and I sent it off for warranty haha, i remember adding UPA-1's to my Yamaha Receiver and was like wow, if anything I have always like the looks of the Marantz ones

Some of yall may remmeber I used to have the sherbourn pa7-350 with sherbourn processor with four 18s and jtr speakers.... so having a pretty great system and now having this weak ass system is starting to bug me so that's another reason I'm wanting to start the upgrade process. I may sell these klipsch! I preferred my polks and jtr speakers over klipsch. The sssssss drives me insane! Maybe that marantz 5009 for 419$ will get me by for now....

Hey Chris, yeah I remember your system you had built, I wouldn't worry too much if you are still in an apartment for the time being as you won't be hitting extreme spl's unless you wanna be evicted then I say go for it haha, one thing I like about my fusion is it sounded exactly like my 7020 and XPA-5 although I never had a chance to push it very hard yet I'm sure it doesn't have the headroom my XPA-5 can dish out, I just remember how anemic my Yamaha receiver sounded before adding the UPA-1's, that was my first WOW experience haha. With 2 little kids at home it's not like I'm cranking my system to extreme levels very often anyhow and with my 2 Mach 5 subs my speakers being crossed over they are easier to drive as well Chad

I'm only a little biased, but take a look at Anthem, they are coming out with their new models and used ones are popping up in your price range (or lower for the MRX300 & 310). Agree w/ several above comments about "room treatments" and also that Marantz is "warmer" than others.
