This may have been discussed ad nauseam already but I just got off the phone with the folks at Emotiva to discuss the trade in program from my XMC-1. I wanted to confirm that indeed one had to give up their XMC-1 first before acquiring the XMC-2 replacement and as you all know this is the way it works. This is probably going to be a deal breaker for me for a litany of different reasons the most important is being without any sound system for weeks while all of the back and forth shipping, inspecting and so forth goes on. Typically for me here in the northern hinterlands, it can take up to two weeks for a package via UPS to arrive from Franklin. I'm dead serious about this. Granted these are all 1st World Problems but I do find this program to be very annoying albeit a good deal for those legacy owners of the XMC-1 to trade up, but only if they have some sort of back up system to work with. I don't. I try and keep my audio bone yards as empty as possible, thus I don't have a back up pre-amp, processor (other than the Opposite 203) and other such replacements. Just curious how many others have gone thumbs down due to this program? Thanks I will be reconfiguring the system so the Oppo covers most of the work load. I have done this in the past so have a Pronto configuration where the UPD-205 is the preamp. I also bought single-ended to balanced cables to facilitate using it with the balanced only AHB2 amplifiers. - Rich

I certainly don't mind using the Oppo as pre-pro for movies and TV series, but I don't use it much for music unless I occasionally spin a SACD or Blu Ray audio disc, otherwise most of my music comes via my vinyl setup or computer based music server with the Holo Spring R2R Ladder DAC. For this a pre-amp is a must, IMHO. Sounds as though a few of you have this figured out for your needs and situation however.
Thanks

I would like to know what the turnaround time will be once you ship your XMC-1 back. For me it will be a hardship since I use my HT with the XMC-1 every day to watch TV, listen to music, etc. I wish they could have offered a cross ship by charging full price to credit card and refunding once they got the XMC-1 back and it checked out? I hope they will be able to match orders/returns with stock on hand. I'd hate to return my XMC-1 and then hear they are back ordered for some amount of time. Any clarity on this from Emotiva would be appreciated. I hope for the same thing, but they're not offering it.

The website says it's only for the first run of trade ins. Next run is in November. It's not over yet.

I'm very busy at work until after Thanksgiving, and didn't get a chance to look online. I hope I don't miss the next batch available for trade-in

I wonder how they are going through the list? I got on the list the second day first thing in the morning East Coast time and did not receive a e-mail.

So, since the XMC-2 is still available as a new purchase and the trade in program is unavailable, does that mean that the XMC-2 units that we get from the trade in program are refurbished XMC-2's?

They would have to tell you that they were refurbs. So no. I think they have a certain inventory for new and a separate inventory for the trade-in program.

If you read the information for the trade in program, it says for a "new" unit. I should have read first. Duuh!

I got on the list but it’s because I didn’t realize what the list was for and bought the XMC2 day 1. I no longer have the XMC1 - I need to know how to get off of this list. Well I’m sure the allocation will be small per month since they are literally giving away the XMC2 until they make up for it in the back end selling the XMC1 on eBay. That’s a lot of risk they are carrying.

I got the email on Tuesday and I figured I'd place my order end of the week due to timing of being "without", only to find out last night they'd sold out. I called today and was told the email will still exceed the batch due by end of this month. So it's kinda like when they open the doors for black Friday sales, but without all the trampling.
Bottom line, ya gotta call when the email arrives!
