Got my shipping label late afternoon yesterday. Will box up my XMC-1 when I get home after work and take it to UPS tonight. I was in the first batch.

That is correct.
On a device with an actively driven balanced output, like the XMC-1, XMC-2, or RMC-1... The proper way to connect the balanced output to an unbalanced input is... - the non-inverted output signal from the balanced output is connected to the signal input on the unbalanced input (the center pin)
- the inverted output line from the balanced output is left open And that is the way our adapter is wired. (All of the commercially available adapters we've looked at are wired mostly for use with microphones and have the inverted signal output shorted to ground.)
In the old days the balanced outputs on many high-end microphones and microphone mixers were transformer coupled...
And some high-end microphones still in use have transformer coupled outputs... And, with some transformer coupled outputs, when converting the balanced signal to an unbalanced signal, the inverted output must be grounded. HOWEVER, with modern equipment, which uses an output driver for each line, this is not only not required, but is NOT recommended. (Most modern equipment will tolerate it without damage, including ours, but it is not the recommended way to do it.)
Utilizing both signals from the balanced output requires either a signal transformer or an active balanced-to-unbalanced converter circuit...
And, in the case of our processors, wouldn't offer a significant improvement in signal quality...
High Quality Balanced to Unbalanced Output Adapters are now available !!!I don't know if anybody has mentioned this already or not... But we now have adapters available for connecting the balanced outputs on your RMC-1, RMC-1L, or XMC-2 to unbalanced inputs on other gear. These are neat little adapters with an XLR connector on one end to plug into the unit... And a female RCA connector on the other where you can connect an appropriate RCA-to-RCA interconnect cable. - These are pigtail adapters, with a high quality connector on each end, and about eight inches of flexible wire between them - Both connectors have high quality metal shells with a tough black coating - They are wired correctly (the inverting balanced output is not shorted to ground like it is on adapters intended for use with microphones) - Because the pigtail is flexible, it doesn't stick straight out like a solid adapter, so you don't need a lot of extra clearance for it - We used special slim-line connectors that have plenty of clearance for the closely-spaces connectors on the back of the RMC-1, RMC-1L, and XMC-2 - They're only $8 each You can find them in the accessory section of our website... here: Hello from Germany, I also get my invoice yesterday and now waiting for the next step. You wrote "They are wired correctly (the inverting balanced output is not shorted to ground like it is on adapters intended for use with microphones)", so the inverted balanced out is left open / not connected? Regards Markus

I've received the emails with first and second rounds of the update, but aren't ready to do it yet - I live in the UK, and really want to schedule the upgrade with a trip over to minimise the down time (and cost!). The original comms suggested that qualification for the tradein was around warranty, condition etc., but with all of the focus on the hurry to get on these early lists, I wondered if Emo are planning a cut off date for the tradein. Is the trade-in relatively open ended, or is there an end date that we know about?

I am wondering about that too. The last posts sounded like "if we are done with the list, the deal is gone and so if you are not on the list, you won´t have a chance." This is quite contrary to how it originally sounded.
Also I am pretty sure I am not the only one who is not willing to jump on the train without DIRAC being available.

Same here, no DIRAC = not interested. It’s simply too much of a risk, no matter how slim, of having to ship it back to the US to get DIRAC working for some not as yet known reason. I’m on the list but it’s easy to just not respond to the email. Not that it matters at the moment as they send them out in the middle of the night Sydney time. Cheers Gary

same here - no Dirac - less interest for swap at the moment. some clarity and reassurance will be good.

In the past they’ve always been up front with existing deals and programs, for instance when the the original XMC-1 had a price increase we were told after May 1st the price would be higher. I don’t think we’re going to wake up someday and the trade in deal is over. Whether Dirac will be available when the trade in ends is another matter, but I think everyone will have a chance to trade their 1 for a 2.

Couldn't agree more - No Dirac, No Deal. Dirac is promised. I trust them to deliver eventually. In the meantime I will go old school, put a 9 volt in my Radio Shack sound pressure level meter and get along till it comes. Excited to have the new unit, new five year warranty, latest specs, and great deal. My XMC-1 will be in Franklin tomorrow according to UPS. Hoping it doesn't take too long to get my XMC-2. Thank you Emotiva!

Don't look a gift horse in the MouthThis is an old idiom but it is relevant for this XMC-1 to XMC-2 offer. You are getting a brand new system with a brand new 5-year warranty from a company that has done a great job of delivering the goods over its time. It is time for pure gratitude folks. You will get your friggin Dirac so peace!!!

This deal was offered instead of the promised upgrade board for the XMC-1. With the XMC-1 in its current state I know what I have. The XMC-2 is still quite an unknown factor for me - and after my experiences with the UMC-200 and XMC-1, it is better to be safe than sorry - also an old idiom. You have your "koolaided" perspective, others have different ones. No problem with that, just don´t tell other people what to do or when to be grateful and when not. Everyone is entitled to his / her / its own personal opinion.

Adding brand new hardware, new 5yr warranty, expanded & updated Dirac, all channels fully balanced, etc. and more = Gift.

I agree that it's a fair deal (once Dirac is supported). Dirac is my #1 requirement - I'd have switched to another brand by now if it wasn't.

I see it as a HUGE plus. Much better than a fair deal to me. Agree - although not a gift, it is a great deal. Reminds me of the old days when XPA-5 amps were $500, and there were Secret Warehouse Sales. Good times.

Money invested in XMC-1 = $1,200 Money invested in V3 board = $450 Money invested in DIRAC full = $100 Total investment = $1,750
Price of XMC-2 = $3,000 Max return of XMC-1 3rd party sale = $1,750 (who gets full price for a 5 year old processor?) Price of XMC-2 after XMC-1 3rd party sale = $1,250
Sale price of XMC-2 w/XMC-1 trade-in from Emotiva = $601 Savings = $649
Yep, I'll call that a gift... or one hell of a deal!
And, lets not forget that other than not having DIRAC at the moment, XMC-1 owners are trading up in every department.
