Thanks for the quick update with the changes that now make me want one.
I also vote for the volume knob.
How does one get lucky enough to get on the pre-order list?

Do I need to resign up? They are no longer taking pre-orders on XMC-1 until its almost ready for release (june ?). And no you dont need to sign up again.

I am just really unsure about the XMC-1 being close to double the price of the UMC-1,is there really enough separation of the two products to warrant such a price increase? I'm not really sure how anyone can realistically predict the price of the XMC-1 to be double the price of the UMC-1. When the possible functions and specifications first came out for both the UMC-1 and the XMC-1 and the discussed prices were $699 and $999, I made a decision right then that I would go for the XMC-1. I apparently mistakenly made the presumption that these two units would be introduced fairly close to each other. As time went on the majority of the talk seemed to be focused on the UMC-1 and the XMC-1 seemed to take back stage. It seemed that there was some pressure to keep the UMC-1 price at $699 at least for those who were on the pre-order list and patiently waiting for its release. To Emotiva's credit this seems to be the case and I for one would not have blamed them at all for raising the price for all others (not on the pre order list) at time of release. Now it seems that the XMC-1 will be released sometime around June of 2010. Some of us who have been on the pre-order list now have to wait another 7 months. I would hope that Emotiva would give us (on the original pre-order list) some consideration on the actual price, even if the general release price is higher. Some food for thought for those who have quietly been patient all these many months with no whining. If my post here is in fact whining then I apologize. ;D ;D ;D

I say, probably a knob, but I like the idea of seeing some renderings first.

Oh and it's pretty amazing to see a company listen to feedback from potential and current customers. Just when I think I've come to a certain level of service from Emotiva, they take things to the next level.
That said a few questions (and they echo what some people have already said):
1) What makes the video section better than that in the UMC?
2) Is the 2 channel performance going to equal that of the USP/XSP?
Mark.

Hi Dan, A couple of questions: 1) If the HDMI outputs are identical, what's the reasoning behind being able to disable them selectively? 2) Will this unit have 60i to 24p frame rate conversion? (for movies, etc, shot in 24P but broadcast telecined at 60i) 3) Not a question but a comment. Knob. MOTORIZED knob. With a little blue LED light near the outer edge that moves, synchronized with the dB display, as we adjust the volume from the remote. Motorized knobs == neato. 4) In the realm of silly - put a volume control knob on the remote (VCR "Shuttle" control-style), with a matching LED light near the edge. You move the light on the remote, and the XMC-1 matches it.

-Although I could care less of a THX certification, I understand how this may be important persuasion for new-to-Emo customers on the fence. -The external sub splitter sounds like a great solution since it can be used for UMC-1 owners alike. -Unbalanced analog reference inputs is a great addition so we wont have to sacrifice the 7.1 input. -I love how Emotiva listens to our inputs (aka nagging ;D )
Edit: One more vote for the knob

But, in the end, we believe we've come up with a winner. If we haven't, we're sure you'll let us know... You certainly have a winner!. I´m so happy for being on the pre-order list. Best regards, Ole Willy Tuv

Here's the big question: You guys still want a volume knob, or volume buttons, like the MMC had? Knob? No Knob? Motorized precision knob. All the best, Ole Willy Tuv

Wow, this thing sounds better all the time. I'm on the XMC pre-order list, but was considering "settling" for the UMC-1. Not anymore. I know the THX label is only to reassure non-believers that it meets their minimum standards, but I'm still glad to see it. My current receiver is THX Ultra certified, so when this beast replaces it I'll have just one more piece of ammo to justify the upgrade to my wife.
I mentioned this before in the other thread, but I would still prefer to see the outputs to the amp reversed (looking at the back, have it go right, center, left versus the current sketch of left, center, right). Reason being that I assume the majority of users have the equipment rack in the front of the room. Current layout would have the either the interconnects to the amp or the speaker wires crossing in the back. Make sense?
Also want to cast my vote for the motorized knob with blue led!

While my LMC-1 is currently displaying its innards to the world, (I have it open to attempt to re-seat the ribbon cables. Lost my center.) I have contemplated the UMC-1 with my discount. Is that baby shipping yet? I need to do something. I've outgrown the external HDMI switcher. And, frankly, grew tired of its quirkiness.
Now the XMC-1 appears to set the bar even higher. I'm just wondering if it might be overkill for me and my LPA-1. Just rambling here.

That's why I'm going to go ahead and get the umc-1 now with the discount and then maybe sell it down the road and use the proceeds towards a xmc-1.
