I have stood in front of the ERC and fed it about 20 discs in a row, to see if there is a pattern. Dann, I'm not clear on your testing. Did you just play 20 discs in a row with the power being on or did you turn the power off and on again between each of the 20 discs? The only problem with my ERC-1 is only when the power is off and then turned on and a disc inserted or a disc was left in the ERC-1. Only the first disc after powering up skips the first second. As long as the power remains on, there are no further problems. As described above it happens 100% of the time with my ERC-1. I choose 10 CD's and 2 CD-R's completely at random and it happened on all of them. I have noticed this on most or all of my CD's when not testing and first powering up. To me this is a defect or glitch in that this is not what any reasonable person would expect. I would be impressed if Emo would issue a fix for this as Oppo has on my BDP-83 to fix small glitches. No I did not return the unit since this certainly is a minor issue. I only add my posts here to clarify what my tests have found. Enough owners of the ERC-1 have this problem that it is in fact a real albeit small issue.

yup, happens 100% of the time with my ERC-1. i get to experience it daily because I switch the power off at the wall each night (all my HT gear draws 100watts in standby!). as stated, it's then fine until it gets switched right off again. most of my CDs are old (circa 1994-1999), so i'd be surprised if it were a 'special features' thing? will be interested to hear if a fix emerges - it's not enough to bother me greatly, but would be nice to get rid of

It also happens with my erc-1 about 100 percent of the time. For the price and performance I can deal with it.

Mine is now on its way back to Emotiva. I think I got a faulty unit. Non responsive buttons, weird relay noises clicking, inability to insert disc...etc..

It seems quite a few people received the CD to "fix" the problem with loosing the first second today. The trouble is that there was no instruction sheet included with the CD. Good news!
Dann sent me the instructions ealier this evening and appologized for the over-site. The Instructions are shown below:
Just put it in, and it will say 'Loading'. It will eject it a few seconds later, while still saying 'Loading'. The ERC will continue to read 'Loading' for maybe 30-45 seconds, then it will say 'Emotiva', then 'Loading', then 'Ready'. When it gets to 'Ready', use the Standby button to power it down for a few seconds, then return it to power. It should be updated!
The few people who have tried the fix have posted that it works like a charm. As usual, Emotiva has a fix for us and the ERC-1 is now flawless. Emotiva rocks! Thanks, Dann. Your the best. ;D

My ERC-1 does this all the time, which is annoying. It should not happen at this level of equipment. I'd like a software fix installed when it becomes available.

I've discovered a few cd's that cut the first second or two off on my ERC-1. I was hoping that some of you ERC-1 owners that have received the firmware update could pass their update disc on. Two weeks ago Dann G had said he would send me one but I don't think that will happen now. Anyone willing to send me that update disc. I'll even pay for the shipping.

I received the disc but the fix doesn't work on mine. It reduced the amount of time but there still is a brief period of silence before the sound kicks in. Before it seemed like a couple of seconds and now it is less than a second, but nonetheless I still get delays.

It's definitely something I can live with.

I have 2 ERC-1s, both had the audio mute on startup, I requested an update disc - it took 3 weeks and several e-mails before I got it, but it worked just fine - stick it in, wait, it spits it out, wait until 'Ready' and power down - no problem. I would be happy to forward the disc on to anyone who wants it, or e-mail it as it is only a 956kb .bin file. PM if interested.

I also had the 2-3 second delay on track 1 on start-up after standby. I called Emotiva. Cathy Laufman (NICE LADY!) answered, then Dan Laufman (GREAT GUY!) apologized for the glitch (no need to apologize) and overnight-Fed-Ex'd a reflash disc. Dan said, "Just play it." I did, and the 2-3 second pause disappeared -------just once. On start-up from standby, I'm back to square one. It's not the CDs--they all worked from the get-go with my other CD players (Onkyo & Sony)--and it's just on track 1. Really, the Laufman's were so nice. Cathy even sent some Emotiva popcorn (which I promtply microwaved and devoured) and a hand-written apology with the disc. Ha! Try and get that from Sony! The 2-3 second "no sound" is annoying, but the ERC-1 sounds too good to send back. But I like my music to start on the downbeat. But I want to keep the ERC-1. But I've gotten to where I can't stand the problem. But I don't want to return the ERC-1! Other thing, kind of funny: The remote's little stubby feet are all different lengths, so the remote wobbles. Never had one like that before.

I am not certain if you went through the steps necessary to cure the ERC-1 delayed start problem because it wasn't clear what steps you actually followed. I have a copy of the instructions for performing the upgrade. They are shown below. Good luck.

Hey, roadrunner, thanks for the reply.
Actually, Dan's verbal instructions were to "just play the disc" he sent. I put in it, it starts (no 2-3 second delay), then it plays continuously (the music is heavily distorted electric bass and guitar(s)--serious head banger rock) as track 1, then track 2, then track 3, etc, through track 6 (it's about half an hour in total). Then the display reads 'stop.' And that's it. Nothing like the instructions for performing the upgrade you posted. The disc is hand-labeled as "Losing Stars." Very curious, eh? Thanks again. (maybe they didn't send the right disc?)

I updated the firmware per instruction and I though it fix the problem. However, I still missing the first couple seconds. I dunno why. Is there a way to check the firmware version? Any suggestion?
Thanks all...
