Let's not throw HDMI 1.4 under the bus. BTW, 2muchht, were you referring to the EmoBus? ;D

A definite NO vote! Get the XMC-1 out ASAP! Hasn't anyone on this board had enough, with waiting for a processor to come out?
HDMI 1.4 just does not add any real functionality. Get all the bugs worked out with HDMI on the XMC-1, and give everyone a rock solid processor with superb 2-channel sound, without jacking the price up too much.
Oh, and 3-D? Just another marketing gimmick to sell more stuff!

So you think Avatar… one movie has changed the whole video landscape? A resounding HUGE YES.

I just went and saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D. I was kind of disappointed in the 3D effect. It was like cardboard cutouts of objects placed at different depths. Objects themselves did not seem to have any depth. Did anyone else notice this? I hope this is just me as I did not think much about 3D. Nice to watch as a novelty once in a while. Alice ain't like Avatar.

Let's not throw HDMI 1.4 under the bus Nobody is suggesting we throw it under the bus. All we're saying is don't delay the XMC-1 to include HDMI 1.4. Hmmm, tricky business plan...

From my second favorite website: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_moviesSeems there are quite a few 3D movies that have been made, not sure how many I would want to see if they were made available.

As an added bonus, Emo should include a free set of 3D glasses with every purchase of equipment that doesn't have HDMI 1.4. I could wear my glasses and stare at the wonderful Emo blue lights and pretend I see them in 3D, just like all the movies that won't be released in 3D. Are you missing an eye?

If the XMC were just around the corner I would agree that 1.4 shouldn't hold it up. Given the UMC history and the current distractions I doubt that development of the XMC is that far along. Sure, some technology is shared but it is a far more complex machine.
Would you still just want HDMI 1.3 if a realistic delivery weren't until Q4?
On the other hand adding the full suite of HDMI 1.4 features may make the XMC that much more complex - essentially turning it into a "next generation" pre/pro for Emo along with another two year wait.

I saw AiW on Sunday too, I noticed what you are talking about on G-Force too (!) - the only one that looks more convincing so far was Avatar, I think it is to do with the production more so than the 3D tech.

Everyone here is focusing on 3D, but remember that is only one part of the HDMI 1.4 package: > "3D Ready": OK, it seems as though some of us could take it or leave it. Don't update my processor all that often, so if I'm buying my presonal feeling is to get it even if I don't need it now. You never know what you may wnat down the road. > "Audio Return Channel": Simplifies things when you have your ATSC (off-air) tuner in the TV or Widgets or other 'net based/streaming content from the TV where you want the audio going back to the processor. Yes, I know it is simple enough to run another optical or coax line back to the processor, but this makes it easier and future proofs you if they ever delivery audio beyond PCM from these sources.\ > HDMI Ethernet Channel: Routing your broadband in a star network approach amongst all compatible devices. THIS I can do without. Easy enough to throw in a switch when needed. > Enhanced CEC: This is something that it would be nice to see all products include. Let's not throw HDMI 1.4 under the bus jsut on the basis of your feeling towards 3D. Face it, gang, HDMI ain't gonna go away. Indeed, I am more interested in 4k support - I kind of fancy gaming in 8 MP. It makes sense for a large screen, my current 30" monitor is 4MP, so if my screen is 6 to 8 times larger (projector) it would be nice if the resolution at least doubled. Graphics cards are out now that can handle 8MP too (just). So having the b/w available for when it's needed (some time in the next 1 -3 years) would be nice - otherwise a new processor would be needed.

I think some kind of "dimming glasses" are needed anyway for any Emo gear if you don't put tape over the power lights. ;D

Made a shopping trip up to Reno today. I stopped int he Best Buy to cash in some Rewards dollars. Anyhow they had a 3D demo set up using the Panasonic 50TCPV20 plasma and BPT 300 Blu-ray player. Pretty impressive. It does takes a little bit of getting used to because we are used to seeing flat images. Some of the stuff just popped right out of the front of the screen. I think like in the early days of stereo things can be overdone. The Grand Canyon movie did look real tho. I think 3D is here and it will definitely catch on. Anyone who thinks otherwise just has their head in the sand.

Clash of the titans 3D may sway some to go this way also it`s definitely gaining momentum and hardly a gimmick if you ask me every month more and more I see are going the way of 3D and by end of this year every new component coming out will be 3D ready

Or at least make them more ergonomic. I thought the size of the lenses was a little small and the glasses themselves are pretty bulky. And is 3D anymore of a fad than stereo or quadriphonic sound or multi-channel sound for video when it first came out?

Stereo was hardly a fad, either, we have two ears don't we? It was a simple extension of the mono, as two speakers were generally in play already.

But, didn't quad sound eventually evolve into what our current multi-channel systems are today? There were a lot of monaural systems that proceeded stereo. It took some time for stereo to come around. If you can remember some of the early "ping pong" stereo recordings? Your reasoning for 2 ears for stereo, does that mean I need 7.2 ears to listen to my system?
