For some reason mine seems to want to default to PLXII music mode when I change to some channels and will occasionally do it when listening to music. It doesnt do it too much but enough to where it is annoying and I have to get the remote and change it. I have changed it via the menu as I really dont like the mode yet it continues doing it.

red5ive, Yes you do have the story correct . I had a thought that might explain why I am not getting MCH PCM as well as PS3 owners too. The BD30 does not have any onboard HBR audio decoding and from what I understand the early model PS3 players could not bitstream HBR audio (correct me if I'm wrong ). Now I wonder if the UMC-1 has issues processing MCH PCM from players that do not have onboard HBR audio capabilities or from players that can not bitstream HBR? I wonder if Emotiva could get their hands on a BD30 or try a player without onboard HBR decoding (Denon 2500 comes to mind). I'd send mine in if they got me a replacement like....... a Oppo BDP-83, just trying to do my part for the team ;D. I could be barking up the wrong tree here but thought it could be a possibility . Bill Just thought I'd test it out for ya on my 1st gen PS3 which cannot pass HBR via bitstream. I popped in Underworld: Evolution, set it to output Linear PCM, then selected the "English PCM 5.1" track. All channels are operational in Direct Mode. Sorry, that's probably not what you want to hear. Sorry redfive, I missed that bit on billmacs post. No problem, snodog. I was just being a trafficker of information. ;D

It must be something else then but I haven't a clue as to what it could be. Bill

Are there any new FW updates you can perform on the Panasonic BD30? My Panasonic BD-60 works perfectly.

My UMC-1 does the same thing. It just changes to the PLX11 Music mode when I change channels on my Comcast HD.I have it set in menu for Movie and it gets it right most times but changes to Music Mode with some channels. This is very pain in the A** when listening to movies and it just changes and you can not reset to Movie and have to use Music Mode

In summary I believe the two original topics we're waiting to hear back from Lonnie on are:
-The ability to have both stereo (2.1) and multichannel stereo... not a one or the other type scenario like we've seen between these two firmware updates.
-The ability to apply EQ/bass management to LPCM (via HDMI) without applying post processing effects such as PLIIX. Whether this means a "Direct" and a "Pure Direct" mode... or it just means enabling the 'native' mode Lonnie previously thought we had the option of selecting. I'm guessing that means being able to select 'Dolby True HD' or 'DTS MA' or whatever the native mode of the signal is before processing? Currently those options are grayed out when playing a Blu-ray or SACD or whatever.

When you say that the LCPM is being handled correctly by the UMC in Direct mode, are you also getting all of the bass management, Emo Q, etc? What I am trying to find out is, can the UMC take the multi channel PCM from the PS3 and then apply all the post processing on it?

I plan on testing tonight if I get a chance but from what I've seen it CAN apply the EQ/BM/etc, but only if you apply a post-processing mode such as PLIIX... which in my opinion and the opinion of many others, is not desirable since PLIIX sounds very strange (not sure what it's supposed to sound like, but that's another issue entirely I guess). There's no option to keep things 'native' and apply the EQ.

Thanks Threxx,
If that's true, that is very disappointing. I would think that there are many people that use the PS3's as Blu Ray players.

for people that are bitstreaming their blu-ray players and have a 7.1 setup. how are you getting the 2 rear speakers to play with the UMC-1. When TrueHD or DTSMA 5.1 soundtracks are playing, the only way to get 7.1 is by applying PLIIx? It sounds pretty bad compared to the the normal 5.1 soundtrack. Am I doing something wrong?

I believe the story is that selecting PLIIx will overlay PLIIx on the DTSMA or TrueHD track and matrix the rear two channels. I think the ability to add this type of post-processing was one of the benefits to the dual cirrus chips.

Yes but As soon you press pause and play or Skip chapter the UMC-1 stay in PLIIx but no sound from rear speakers. Need to select again PLIIX on menu or mode button ti have again sound from rear speaker. You could tried it in with DD 5.1 dvd, is the same issue. Lonnie is aware about that and he confimed to me but I still waiting if it will be adress in the next firmware

I think the ability to add this type of post-processing was one of the benefits to the dual cirrus chips. From what I've read PLIIX takes the 6th and 7th channel and moves them to the 4th and 5th channels. However for a while there I didn't even have my surround speakers connected at all... it was just my L/C/R speakers and that was it, and even like that, PLIIX sounded vastly different and not nearly as good to me as 'direct' mode. If all PLIIX did was throw those two extra channels into my rear surrounds, plus allow me to use the EQ and bass management features, then I'd be a happy camper even though I still think there should be a mode that's 100% native except EQ, crossover points, etc.

What I am trying to find out is, can the UMC take the multi channel PCM from the PS3 and then apply all the post processing on it? I was confirming whether or not all channels are engaged from the PS3 to the UMC-1 with the PS3 outputting LPCM with a PCM Multi-CH track of a blu-ray film - which it does. However, the "native" mode for Multi-CH PCM is Direct, and Direct mode will bypass processing such as bass management. This is generally the purpose of Direct mode and is thus generally true of AVRs/pre-pros that have a Direct mode (my Onkyo 886 and a Yamaha RX-V1800 all did this). The only other options for bass management with Multi-CH PCM are DPLIIx and DSP modes. Oh, and I guess you could pick 2-CH Stereo also if you like. ;D I plan on testing tonight if I get a chance but from what I've seen it CAN apply the EQ/BM/etc, but only if you apply a post-processing mode such as PLIIX... which in my opinion and the opinion of many others, is not desirable since PLIIX sounds very strange (not sure what it's supposed to sound like, but that's another issue entirely I guess). There's no option to keep things 'native' and apply the EQ. Agreed. PLIIx sounds strange, and my particular unit sounds like it has static in the back ground with PLIIx Movie engaged. I'm beginning to wonder if the static sound is just a defect on my UMC. PLIIx Music on the other hand sounds fine.

I suspect it was just an oversight. - LoopinFool

Just enable a 'native' MultiPCM mode for the MultiPCM inputs. This would be in addition to the DIRECT mode.
