LCSeminole - The only thing that people are asking for is an update. Every and I mean EVERY time that someone writes that he had a long conversation with Lonnie makes me furious. Lonnie needs to put down the phone and drive. (sorry - wrong rant). People - stop calling EMO. Let EMO try to work out the details with their offshore software teams. How about we have one person call and get an update on a weekly basis. Also, we have a spreadsheet in this forum that could be updated to at least let us know what issues are really being addressed. Right now, we get updates that are not couched in the terms that let us know if our problems are being addressed. bootman - edge has a new beta. A few thoughts. Weekly updates would be great, but I don't expect it at this point from them. However, in the past we've always been told "just call us", so that's what people are doing. The best way to avoid phone calls is to post something on here, otherwise deal with the calls. My guess is 90% of this mess could have been avoided if Emotiva did an "Oppo" and gotten customer beta testers months ago. Those people could have posted pictures of their beta units and kept everyone in the loop so no one felt in the dark they way many did, and instead of Emotiva getting hit with 5,000 "when is it going to be done???" posts, the angry crowd could have asked all the beta testers to hurry the heck up, and I'm sure friendly banter would have ensued. ;D I just don't understand why Emotiva doesn't proactively utilize their fanbase in this way, especially since I'm sure people would be more than willing to get involved....

As you have noticed, I haven't locked this thread nor do I intend to since it definitely hasn't outlived its usefulness. I will say however that everything that I "deleted" or "modified" could easily have been taken the wrong way and easily rephrased in a respectful manner.

RR, No offense but if the UMC-1 was beta tested properly before its release then Emotiva would have found these issues. To blame the vendors of the chips used in the UMC-1 is just another excuse that just doesn't cut it IMO. Maybe you can list another AVR/prepro that has been released recently that has had the many issues that the UMC-1 has had. Emotiva had no choice to extend the evaluation period as the UMC-1 still does not have a solid FW installed. So please do not make it out that Emotiva is going above and beyond the call of duty here. Emotiva does have a solid track record for service but they also have had issues releasing a prepro without bugs. I find in comendable that you have so much faith in Emotiva. But you have to also understand why so many UMC-1 owners are seriously frustrated. I hope my post is not viewed as not being disrespectful but if one member can post what he believes the problem is with the UMC-1 others should also be able to comment as well. Bill

ittie bittie...LOL! Good one.
On desiring a status update, sure - I concur w/that. Another status update to the masses would be super.
On the "if they only had beta tested" comments...as one who just beta tested his future product with 300 consumers in the last week (and 2000+ in the last year), I agree 100% with that mindset. But, the reality is...in developing and launching the UMC-1, Emotiva did what it did.
Last I knew, Lonnie was not working on a time machine to go back and change that. That leaves 1 option: moving forward after learning from past mistakes.
As someone in this thread put it, nobody is losing more sleep or hair over this than the Emo crew. There's no gain in suggesting what they should have done. Let's just encourage what we would like to see in the future.
(stepping off soapbox...)

Any more official updates from Emotiva? I would've expected someone post in the official thread so everyone doesn't have to come wading through this thread but this has yet to happen.

There is and the following update "if all goes well we plan to release it very soon (hopefully within a week)." All is not well with the FW then.

To those looking for the latest update, this is what I found that I think is the latest official word:
This is from Big Dan on 3/23/10. It happens to have been listed in a thread that got closed due to lots of negative interpersonal stuff going on as part of Big Dan's plea for folks to cool the interpersonal stuff, but it's an official update...
Also, that post above from Big Dan was merely 5 hours after this whole thread started. And the OP said EMO had said "a week or two". We're only at 1 week from that date...

Amen. But I do understand Emotiva's with regards to beta testing. Emotiva doesn't just do work for themselves. Most of their work is actually for others. Maybe they couldn't perform a public beta test of the UMC due to contractual obligations with other customers. <cough, Sherbourn> It's tough when you make products for someone else and they may have priority over your own customers.

Wouldn't you rather be irritated by a longer than expected delay but get a firmware update that works better than to fix one or two issues at a time and have to perform multiple updates? Maybe not, but I would rather not have to keep redoing it over and over. That is true.. because you know, if the FW update fixes a few things, you are going to hear nothing but howls from the people who have issues that were not addressed in that update. And of course each time you perform an update, there is a risk of something going awry during the process. I disagree..if Emotiva,to date, had released a couple of incremental FW updates that addressed some issues you'd have a lot more people praising the UMC..which would be a good thing...

How about we have one person call and get an update on a weekly basis. If this is the right answer, sounds like something the forum moderators could do for the rest of us.. ;D With all due respect to Emotiva and all of the hard work and effort that has gone into the UMC and all of their products, I chose to sell my UMC, get something else to tide me over and then possibly look at the UMC or XMC down the road. My take is this-if you choose to keep it, don't complain. If you're unhappy, then send it back or sell it. ;D

I had to pass when my number came up for a UMC about a month ago. I'm in a better position to purchase something now but of course I would be at the back of the line again which is only fair since I made the choice to pass. I can't find anything comparable at the $700 price point now that I am ready to buy something.

BTW, I too am awaiting the firmware update like many others. However, I am enjoying my UMC-1 a lot at the moment and for me it's not a life and death situation that the firmware update happen this week, I can wait a couple of weeks and would rather Emotiva conduct thorough testing in the meantime.

Do you think that Emo will provide an option to go with Dolby Pro Logic IIz in their FW update? I have heard two interviews from AV manufacturer reps saying that this speaker setup (with the two front height speakers) will be the main one promoted by the new 3d media. Pioneer and Onkyo's most recently announced "1.4 ready" products support this format.
This is important to me as the media center I am building is having two "height" speakers installed as I type this.

Didn't we hear for months that the reason the UMC was delayed was because it was going to be released rock solid? Just a thought. I do agree that bugs should be expected but the people on the lounge that were trying to explain, for Emotiva, why there were delays created a situation where they said it would be rock solid. Emotiva also stated that there wouldn't be a repeat of the LMC launch but yet this seems exactly the same. So while we should know better we were told this wouldn't happen by everyone. +1. This is why I'm so frustrated with the delays. You can't have it both ways. Some of the bugs seem so severe and obvious (especially the resetting channel levels and the no effect subwoofer EQ) that I wonder how they could have possibly been missed during all of the "extensive" testing. I still think/hope it can be a great product, but it's time for another progress update.
