I'm curious what you went with instead. I had to pass when my number came up for a UMC about a month ago. I'm in a better position to purchase something now but of course I would be at the back of the line again which is only fair since I made the choice to pass. I can't find anything comparable at the $700 price point now that I am ready to buy something. I bought an Onkyo RC180 from a forum member here. I wasn't necessarily looking for that model and really had no prior experience with it but I took a chance and bought it. I have been extremely happy with the sound, the ease of setup and this receiver is very easy to use so far. Feature wise, the UMC may have been richer but I think sound wise, the 180 is at least comparable enough to where I can't tell any difference. Very crisp and detailed. The features that I lost aren't that important to me at this point. Hooked up to a XPA-2 & XPA-3, the Onkyo sound is awesome!! ;D However, when the UMC is bugless or at least most of the bugs have been fixed, I would not hesitate to purchase another one.

If this is the right answer, sounds like something the forum moderators could do for the rest of us.. ;D My take is this-if you choose to keep it, don't complain. If you're unhappy, then send it back or sell it. ;D Believe me, we moderators are forum members just like you and others on this forum. We do not have any inside information. BTW, I too am awaiting the firmware update like many others. However, I am enjoying my UMC-1 a lot at the moment and for me it's not a life and death situation that the firmware update happen this week, I can wait a couple of weeks and would rather Emotiva conduct thorough testing in the meantime. That bit of information is good to know. I thought maybe ya'll got info or heard some things before us so scratch that dream!!! ;D

If this is the right answer, sounds like something the forum moderators could do for the rest of us.. ;D With all due respect to Emotiva and all of the hard work and effort that has gone into the UMC and all of their products, I chose to sell my UMC, get something else to tide me over and then possibly look at the UMC or XMC down the road. My take is this-if you choose to keep it, don't complain. If you're unhappy, then send it back or sell it. ;D I'm curious what you went with instead. There is nothing comparable for music with these features, for 2x.All the mass mrkt have good HT units,Onkyo,HK,Denon,Pioneer for similar price.

I'm completely satisfied with the 2 channel sound of the 180. For me in my room, it's not that different from the UMC. Could it be better, sure it could. Am I willing to pay in money, time or effort? No not at this time.... ;D

Similar story here. Needed something rock solid since it's in use 10-12 hours a day by my wife or mother in law. Went with the Onkyo TX-NR807. I have had zero problems with. Ran Audyssey twice, results were nearly identical and love the sound. I use about 95% HT/TV/Xbox and 5% music. Very glad I made the choice I did.

Looks like Emotiva will lose me to another manufacturer, also.
They are just too late with this product, and the features are passing them by.
I would have bought several units (as my new house is about done), but now I'm going with a set of new 1.4 ready Onkyos or Pioneers. My AV man tells me that the Emotiva unit DOES NOT offer Dolby Pro Logic IIz. And that is the thing that is coming up in home theater, and is a deal breaker for me regarding a home theater processor.
It's bad enough that Emotiva released a buggy unit. Seems like they also released a unit that, because of suspended shipments, is now getting outdistanced in features by other manufacturers.
(PS... They sent me an eMail about a month ago that my unit would be shipped by April 4th and I should soon expect a "phone call" to finalize payments. Never heard from them. Not Good. Tell's me that they really aren't on the ball, or responsive with their commitments.)

If you can enjoy listening to an avr there is no reson to buy the UMC.The avr's offer tons of new features for cheap and there's plenty to choose from.Hey...I got one in my garage.

Thats just a post processing function, nothing is encoded that way, a pretty worthless feature in my book............hell they have barely encoded anything in true 7.1 yet, the vast majority is 5.1 encoded..........True HD and DTS MA is what really matters.........

Just set up the Onkyo TX-NR807 as a pre-pro yesterday. The EQ sounds great (and accurate), handles LPCM without a problem and the Internet music features are a plus too. I tried listening to it with the internal amps and it was still decent, but not surprisingly external amplification improved the sound. Sad to see it go, but I'm sending back my UMC-1 tomorrow.

Is this forum for a Onkyo RC 180 or TX-NR807? All Onkyo sales person please put your hands up. My last Onkyo product huff and puff and I threw it into the trash after overheating and channel failure. Wrong forum for sales pitch.

I've had three Onkyo AVR's since 1994.. all have performed flawlessly. They make great frying pans as well. ;D Seriously, while they do get pretty hot, I have never had a single problem with any of them.

I think I am not alone on this Onlkyo scrap heap issue. I thought Onkyo was the greatest back in the late 80's. If I recall all my Onkyo's were over heating and have to get them repaired several times. They will not last long after repairs. I got 1 cent on the dollar for returning them. It is ok to loose money sometimes. My conclusion is it is a pile of D@#$$ S@###$%^.

Why with that sort of failure rate, some would say it was "prematurely released" and that Onkyo "should have beta tested it with their users" and "should not have released it until it was perfect"! ;D

Why with that sort of failure rate, some would say it was "prematurely released" and that Onkyo "should have beta tested it with their users" and "should not have released it until it was perfect"! ;D ;D I think hardware failure rate is something completely different then buggy operating systems. And frankly I would EXPECT a higher hardware failure rate on mass produced equipment like the Onkyos, Denons, Sonys, Pioneers. Not condoning hardware failures... they are MORE frustrating then software issues and a firmware update WON'T fix them. As far a bringing up the Beta Tester thing... nothing short of hundreds and hundreds of hours of heat/environment testing can surface less the perfect components used. Given the bugs in software revealed, I seriously doubt Emo could claim to have done anywhere near the physical/environment testing that might uncover a poor quality hardware component. Only time will tell. I don't think anyone has questioned the quality of components used in the UMC-1, so hopefully the software bugs will be our only real issues and fix-able via F/W updates.
