I've had three Onkyo AVR's since 1994.. all have performed flawlessly. They make great frying pans as well. ;D Seriously, while they do get pretty hot, I have never had a single problem with any of them. I've had a 656,777,898,702,606,805,the 805 blew an hdmi output,606 fm quit working,702 rr channel burned out, that's 50% failure rate for me. Your probably the 1 in a million statistic then.............. Ive owned quite a few Onkyo products over the years, never one single failure, and most people will say the same thing.

I must admit, if I had 3 of 6 units go bad I would be miffed too.. no matter which make that was. Perhaps luck (i.e. the bad variety) had something to do with it!

My wife says I am like that character on the Peanuts with the storm cloud always over his head. Whenever I buy something cool whether it be a new toaster, TV or Nail Gun, I always seem to get the defunct unit that ends up gong back to be exchanged etc. Or like when we bought my wife a new car... 4 days later she wrecked it in the parking garage at her work. I like to say "I can't have anything nice". ;D

Is this forum for a Onkyo RC 180 or TX-NR807? All Onkyo sales person please put your hands up. My last Onkyo product huff and puff and I threw it into the trash after overheating and channel failure. Wrong forum for sales pitch. Mine has worked just fine so far. If it craps out, I'll go another route.... ;D

Then it would give us an excuse to go and buy something new to add to our collection.

My first 805 is the one that crapped out, early realease. My 2nd with 1.08 firmware worked great, just sold it,poor musicality that left me not wanting to listen to it.It was a thing of beauty, the way avrs should be with solid amp,if it sounded like the UMC I would never have parted with it.

I thought I'd reached audio bliss with my 885 pre/pro, but over time, it grew off me, not on me, as it were. I'm not quite ready to give up its HD radio yet, though. So, I'll have to figure something out. Eventually, I'll sell it and go a different route. I feel like the new Denon AVR's, are more musical and certainly more revealing at the high end than the Onkyo Pre/Pros (yes, that was A/B'd). That's a real disappointment.

In fact , the one from the 80s still works fine and, I beat the crap out of it. I used it to power my Peavey International 115s before I got a real PA amp. I had two 805s for over a year and, no issues except, for the heat. Maybe someone can explain why these AVRs heat up so much? I now have an 886 and, it is great. I would have to agree the 805 is not as musical as the 886.One thing I did notice immediately after hooking up the 886 was IMO an improvement in SQ, it was quite noticeable to me. I will sell my other 805 when the XMC 1 comes out and, I upgrade again . I've only heard basically what the chain stores have or the rare opportunity I have to go to someones home. Most people I know just get the basic HT in a box. There are not to many dealers where I live so, my options are limited. However, I did hear the Rotel and, I added it to my list along with Marantz and, Emotiva to possible replacements for my other 805.

I get the impression the UMC is following the same fate as the LMC. I keep seeing how members here are sending theirs back. I had mine, but had to send it back for repair, a new remote, and the firmware. I am starting to think I should just get my money back. Its a shame, I wanted Emotiva to succeed with this one, but looks real bad for them

You folks should also realize the UMC-1 is not yet really released for mass market delivery. Once it is available on the web site to add to a shopping cart and the general public beyond us early adopters can buy it, it will succeed. It's too inovative in its price category to fail. The early release software issues will be worked out - indeed they are being worked out. Is it frustrating for some of us early adopters to have to wait for these fixes? Sure. But when the full-on product release with fully corrected software happens it will be a market changer and I bet Emotiva will have a hard time keeping up with demand.
