Great read on the 4311, some interesting findings, also some issues spill into the Audyssey thread as well.
I really can't wait on my 4311..

Djoel I agree with you Dan; I follow very closely (every single day for the last couple years, or close to it ) the thread from Chris (Audyssey), and now the 4311/A100. Hey, it is after all the most advanced technological Surround Sound from one if not the best Auto Room Calibration & EQ Audio System in the entire world (at least from what I know and that is also accessible to the general public). ...And very affordable too. * In Audio as in the Act of Making Love, Horizontal & Pleasurable Equation within all the Senses of our Body, is the main KEY! Hi Bob, Yes, I have changed all my speakers to Definitive Technology in my 7.1 surround system. The speakers you saw on the picture that I posted at the "damping factor" subject were the Elan speaker system. They are very good speakers but since I ended up purchasing the Definitive Technology Subwoofer from my friend I wanted to make them all Definitive speakers. Here is a link to a Home theater magazine review on the Elan speaker system, hometheatermag.com/compactspeakers/107elan/ Here are the new pictures of my system right now with the Definitive Technology Speakers, You will see in this recent picture that I still have the Pioneer Elite SC-07 receiver and the Emotiva UPA-7 Amplifier because as I have mentioned to you I am still waiting for my dealer to get the new Onkyo PR-SC5508 Processor and the matching PA-MC5500 9 channel amplifier. The main reason I want to get the Onkyo system as opposed to getting the Denon 4311ci is because I want to have separates and also the Onkyo preamp has balance outputs as well as the Amplifier and the Denon 4311ci does not. I will be connecting both units via their XLR outputs and inputs. Another feature that I love which is the one that I have always use when watching movies is the THX Ultra 2 Cinema Mode. Denon 4311ci does not have that neither. Having a 7.1 surround sound system is more than enough for me right now. Even if I wanted to ad two more in the front(front high wide ) with the Onkyo I can also accomplish that if I want to as well . Don't get me wrong. I am not putting down the Denon 4311ci. I think it is a great receiver for the going price right now of $1500. www.digitalcraze.com/Audio/Receivers/Denon-269/Denon-Avr4311Ci I just feel that with the Onkyo PR-SC5508 Preamplifer/ Processor and their PA-MC5500 Class A/B Balance amplifer I will be accomplishing more than just buying the Denon 4311ci receiver. Also my Definitive Technology Speakers are rated at 6 ohms and the Onkyo PA-MC5500 amplifier puts out 280 watts in 6 ohms which is more than what I need to watch movies in a 25'Lx15'W with an 8' ceiling in my living room. If the Emotiva UPA-7 had balance inputs, trust me that I will keep it and just purchase the Onkyo Processor but in order for me to the the equivalent from Emotiva I will have to wait until they come out with th XPR-7 which I think it is going to be around $2K or purchase 1 XPA-2 and 1- XPA-5 which is going to cost me $1650. As you know I am getting both Onkyo pieces for less than $2500 together. Yes, that is for both pieces brand new from an Authorized dealer. Besides the Onkyo Processor decodes everything the Denon 4311 does and more. I do thank you for reminding me about the option of buying the Denon 4311ci. Best, Carlos

Thank you Pauly,
They are the best speakers for any surround sound in a home theater system. I had them a few years back and I came back to own them again. I highly recommend them. And with their 14" SuperCube Reference subwoofer it is way much better than going to the movies.

Hi Carlos, First, thank you very much for your quite informative posts and links! And I'm looking forward to your impressions on those two newer high-end Onkyo components. * By the way, you mentioned that you had the Pioneer Elite SC-09 receiver before in your system, but looking at the picture it is the SC-07 model. Am I right? Best regards, Bob

Hi Bob, You are absolutely right. I wrote SC-09 instead of SC-07. It has been corrected.
Thanks so much for looking out.
Will keep you posted when I receive my Onkyo gear. I will be adding pictures of both units.
Best,
Carlos

I need some help and thought the fine folks at Emotive Lounge could help.
I'm in Canada and looking to buy the Denon 4311. It is now available locally (in Canada) for $2200 CDN MSRP vs. $2000 US MSRP. I can purchase one from a US retailer who's willing to sell and ship to Canada for $1500 plus shipping - so probably around $1600 CDN after factoring in shipping and exchange. They don't have it in stock so I'd have to wait plus I might get charged around 6% for duty charges (which, according to NAFTA, should be 0%). Plus, the 1 year manufacturer warranty would be voided.
Or I can buy it locally for $1900 CDN (all-in, no shipping required). The 1 year warranty would still be valid and I can pick it up immediately as they have it in stock.
What do you guys think? Should I save myself $300 and order from the US or purchase locally? I don't think I can get them below $1900 since they've still got quite a bit of old stock (Denon 4310s) that they are trying to sell and they don't want to provide too much of an incentive to buy this year's model over the older discounted model.
Help!
Bryan

Bryan, nice to see that you joined the Lounge as an official member! * Here's a very smart advice: 1. If you wannit now, Buy Locally!2. And if you can wait a bit longer Buy still Locally, but get it for $1,750 Canadian (or perhaps a bit less), with the full warranty. {Forget the USA deal all together, because if you're not happy later, you'll regret it.} => If I was you, I'll go with option #2.

Thanks for the reply. I agree I could wait a bit longer and purchase locally for less. But I want it now How long do you think I'd have go wait? I could always bill an extra hour or two at work to pay for the difference

I am a very happy owner of a Denon 4311. I run it in "pre-amp" mode using an XPA-2 for the mains and two XPA-5s for the rest of the channels (11.2 setup).
My speakers consist of...
Def Tech BP7000SCs - mains Def Tech CLR3000 - center Def Tech BP2000s - wides Def Tech SM450s - heights Def Tech BP7002s - surround and surround backs

I just read through your post for the first time today....I wish I had earlier because IMO I believe you made an uninformed decision. Talking about the new Onkyo PA-MC5500 Amplifier because you were saying that it put out 150Wx9ch well that's absolutely wrong....if you look closer on their specs it reads ALL CHANNELS DRIVEN 150W but then look underneath where they completely back track and say "Two Channels Driven, FTC" That tells you Everything you need to know...their all B.S numbers man! Take for example my receiver an ONKYO TX-SR875 it was rated at 140Wx7ch but said the same thing "Two Channels Driven, FTC" and after researching heres what i found. SoundandVisionMag did a full Bench test. Results were 128WPC with ALL-Channels driven...a 12WPC loss and compared to other receivers it lost the least, some loosing considerably more. Link: www.soundandvisionmag.com/content/onkyo-tx-sr875-av-receiverSo REALLY REALLY pay close attention to those specs...they say one thing and they mean the complete opposite. Remind you of anybody LOL. Just my two-cents. Take care everybody!
