Interesting indeed as the XPA-5 is their best selling amplifier. Then again, the Jade/Sherbourn article did say Big Dan will be getting out of the OEM business, so all new designs may be in order?

I eventually want a pair of XPA-1s. Should I move sooner rather than later? I can't really come up with the money now as we purchased a bigger house and have not sold the old house yet.

Wow, this is interesting news. I just ordered 2 UPA-1's for my basement setup. I guess you never know when something is going to happen. It would be nice for everyone to know when an amplifier line is going to be discontinued. It's not the end of the world, but I'm sure many people here would like to add a matching amp to their system while they're still available. I can't wait to see the new lines.

Im not surprised at all. Its just your basic marketing 101. Those products have run their course and now its time to reinvent everything all over again. EMO has retired a lot of gear over the years - consider it planned obsolescence.
Just like other manufacturers of all sorts of items from cameras, to computers to cars, they need to reason for you to re up and buy everything all over again....
Look for Emo receivers - and amps of the the class H topology and/or class D. Not sure which they will trot out first but they are a comin....
Oh, and a neat modular speaker design..........

Ahh, very interesting indeed.
I thought the XPA line of amps was planned to stay and they were bringing in a couple of XPR series to fill the gaps/upgrades. Doesn't surprise me the UPA series is becoming defunct but I can't help but wonder why Emotiva hasve been so quiet of late and not said anything. I wonder if this is a reflection of the Jade Designs buying/taking over Sherbourn and is this the end of Emotiva as we know it?
I was waiting and saving up for a pair of XPA-1's, the XSP-1 and maybe the XMC-1 when it came out but like others my budget wont allow it now and it will likely be many months (7-8) untill it does. I might have to look to other alternatives I guess, only time and Emotiva will tell.
Will it just be a move on new tech for Emotiva or a new direction for business, either way exciting times ahead and I still love the Emo gear I have got at least.

Mmmm... To whom I'll be recommending the UPA-7 now? ...And some other models that might disappear as well? * I'm gong to readjust my sale's pitch.

That seems like a odd move, to get rid of you best sellers before you even have a replacement.

Well, I can tell you the XPA-1's are pretty damn good, so you can't go wrong. It will never end........ These new products will be followed by other ones and so it goes...... And for better or worse, we the masses continue to have upgrade-itis as we search for sonic nirvana...... :-)

I personally find it a bit of a surprise, and would only think it true if it came in the form of an official announcement. Sounds more like an early April fool's joke to me.

When have you ever heard of an electronics manufacturer "announce" they are discontinuing something? They want you to keep buying so they might deplete their inventory so they rarely say a word..... Its usually a dead giveaway though when the deep discounting starts. That most of the time means they want out from under.....

I agreed as well, not surprised at all, specially after getting the current emails I've received from Emotiva, and hinting at the the inevitable On that note would love to have a pair of XPA-1's, and at the price they're selling they are quite the bargain. You have heard of closeout sales haven't you? But a closeout sale gives people a chance to buy things before they're gone. I'm sure there were individuals waiting until after the holidays to buy a UPA-7 and now they're out of stock and discontinued. For a company that works to establish relationships with its customers via webcasts and get-togethers and such, it doesn't really seem like the right way to have done business on this particular piece of news (which still hasn't been publicly acknowledged).

Emo used to have Class H amps, they switched over to A/B's. The XPA and UPA amp lines are how old? Year or 2? How long were the older amp lines out for before they made a lineup change?

Maybe they'll dump all the discontinued gear on eBay under the guise of a random seller like they did the Ultra 10.
