Maybe they'll dump all the discontinued gear on eBay under the guise of a random seller like they did the Ultra 10. I hadn't heard about that. Got a link to one of those auctions? Mark.

Shocked to hear the XPAs and UPAs are done with. I thought the XPA-1 was supposed to still be the flagship amp. Curious to hear what the replacement will be...
Hopeful this won't be the end of affordable prices and the Emo and Sherbourn lines stay separate...
Mark.

That seems like a odd move, to get rid of you best sellers before you even have a replacement. Isn't that what Oppo did, although the time between was shorter. To some extent, although you could still buy a 83 or 83 special from vendors, just not from oppo directly.

I'm sorry to tell you guys..but I spoke with Cathy again today and she confirmed that the UPA and XPA models are done..there is one more shipment of UPA-7's coming in Feb..but after that its all done....I don't know what they are replacing with.but i spoke to a guy at Emotiva and he told methey have a 300wpc x 7 amp coming next year..but priced at $2000.00....way outta my price range. ah well...
sorry to spread this bad news..but i'm SHOCKED that they didnt' make an official announcement. i think the girl who told me made a "boo boo" by letting this information slip..who knows.

ya know what i'm wondering is .... who in their right mind would buy a brand new on for full price in February when they KNOW that this amplifier is now discontinued??? I mean, much easier to get a good price on a used one since they are no longer being made right?
anyways..i'm in NEED of one of these...if you are lookign to sell!!!

I mean, much easier to get a good price on a used one since they are no longer being made right? Depends. RPA-1/RPA-2s are selling for what they were new. MPS-1/MPS-2 amps seem to do pretty well also. I haven't followed the LPA-1s to see what their resale is like... Mark.

Just because its discontinued doesn't mean its an inferior product. Maybe there are a lot of people who just want the latest and greatest, but aside from this message board I'm guessing a lot of people need a functional amp that performs well and will last a long time. Of course, I'm not one of those people, and I can feel my upgrade-itis flaring up again...

Not surprising at all that they are dropping items from their line-up without announcing it first. No manufacturer does. If a manufacturer were to do that, they risk having product sit on the shelf because consumers want to wait for what's new. Additionally, they also lose the possibility of selling you twice; once on the current item and a second time when you can't resist the latest and greatest. I think what's most head-scratching is that they are flat-out discontinuing two lines (their entire amp product line up), totaling SEVEN amps all at once...? So they are releasing a 300W x 7 behemoth for $2k, big friggin' deal. I am sure it's going to be a very nice piece, but I can't imagin that will capture a very large percentage of their customer base. What is going to fill the void of all the rest of the meat and potatoes in their current line-up like the workhorse XPA-5, or the sweet and affordable UPA-1s, or the King of the Hill powerhouse XPA-1, etc., etc., etc.......... ? Interesting to say the least. Get your popcorn ready folks, curious to see how this unfolds.

I spoke to Cathy again today, and she said not only is the UPA series discontinued (they have one more shipment coming in Feb) but the XPA is also done. Seems very strange to me considering she also said the replacment will not be out by the spring...but sometime closer to summer. I was told that a 300wpc x 7 amp is coming out....but that it will be around the $2000.00 mark... I still can't believe both series of amps are done. I thought the UPA series would be retired first as I've always thought the XPA series of amps was more in demand and sold more. The next webcast should be an interesting one. Can't wait to see what Emotiva does after all this.

Hmmmm......I hope this isn't just change for the sake of change. Ooops....sorry, didn't mean to use hope and change in the same line. Ray

i talked to lonnie about a month ago and he mentioned that the xpa series was going to be upgraded. this would include things like better rca's, possibly the 2 channel being 'dual differential' etc.......
i asked what would the designation be....xpa 2b? lonnie suggested maybe xpa 2.0 or something like that. it was all very nebulous and imprecise but i also remember vince at the emo-fest saying that lonnie was interested in improving the xpa line in some ways and we could possibly see those improvements maybe by the summer of 2011.
notice all the disclaimers such as 'could', 'possibly', 'maybe', 'suggested', 'nebulous'.....you get my drift.............
i also spoke with cathy yesterday and she mentioned that the upa-5 was not selling as well as expected because those who were considering the upa-5 more often decided to bite the bullet and get the xpa-5 for a little more money. you can never have too much power you know......
she also mentioned about the upcoming shipment of upa-7s in winter.
whatever comes out, i am sure it will be consistent with emotiva's previous track record on amplifiers which has been excellent with stupendous value up to this point.

I could care less about better speaker/rca connectors, what I really hope they improve on and reduce is the crosstalk on the multichannel amps.

I havent physically measured it, I dont need to. If I have 2 channels playing in a seperate room, then the other 3-5 speakers shouldn't be singing along loud enough to wake someone from a sound sleep. But that gives you an idea of how bad it can be. This was specifically with a UPA-7(And 2 others were tested as well with the exact same issues, just to make sure it wasnt a defective product).

Interesting. I have no similar issues in my UPA-7 driven by the UMC-1. In 2-channel mode the other five speakers are dead silent. So I haven't felt the need to measure it either because it isn't there. Perhaps your preamp is sending a signal to the other channels that you were not aware of.
