I recently bought a TV and the salesmen were pushing 3D at me hard and they couldn't understand that I have no desire to own a 3D TV. Especially when I would have to purchase all the extra stuff (glasses, 3D blu player, 3D blus). Besides why would I wear glasses to watch tv?!

3d is a solution looking for a problem. It was introduced solely to increase sales of televisions and other CE devices. The market isn't always wise, hopefully it will be in this case and 3d will stagnate and disappear. +1 But if they go away, then what will we will need HDMI 1.583920986k for? Because that is the spec that will actually work this time.

You only need the glasses if and when you watch 3D materiel like a 3D movie or TV show that`s encoded with 3D regular 2D programs you can go glass less just because it`s a 3D TV doesn`t mean you have to watch 3D and wear the glasses

Now if they can get TVs going without having to use glasses, ie something like the 3DS, then I will be much more interested.

I am truly torn by this. If the movies will all be as good or better than Avatar, then I can say there may be a future. Alas, not all movies will be made with that care. I feel that 3D is a gimmick being foisted upon the public like so many other changes made before their time. It is getting harder to buy NON 3D components anymore, so the manufacturers are making the choice for us. Whether or not the movies will see is another question. I should think not. Having watched Tron 3D last night, I can easily swear off 3d forever. I had high expectations after Avatar, but Tron snatched them down from the rail of reality and make me want to run back to the store and get my money back. The BR of Tron (the new movie) is bloody awesome whilst its 3D brother sucks bong water. My opinion of course.

What a letdown after the BD version! In general, I'm not convinced at all about 3-D. And believe me, I've tried.

I also agree. Only few 3D movies are done properly and with true care; the rest is very so so, and it ain't worthy the price premium over the 2D version!
One can only wish that more directors like James Cameron will put their full heart into it, using the latest and best 3D technologies. {I am convinced that many Studios will take advantage of the public ignorance to cash in from that new cow cashing flow!}
I also hate with a very deep passion what FOX and Panasonic are doing with Avatar 3D in their exclusive deal! ...So is Dreamworks and Samsung! ...And Disney and Sony!
But this is the sad reality of this world we live in; greed and control!

i'm in for the panny 7000 when it comes out. To tell you the truth, I'm buying it for the much better 2D performance rather than the 3D but I'll give the 3D a go none the less.

I was not going to bother with 3D but now Optoma has released the HD33 for only $1500.00 . I have an HD80 and it has performed well for 3 years . I am still on the original bulb. I am waiting for reviews on this projector. The price of 3D is finally getting reasonable. I have Directv and football in 3D would be nice on ESPN 3D.

3D home systems will continue to be pushed for a while because all the manufacturers jumped on the bandwagon hoping that the entire world would run out and buy all new gear. When that didn't happen they discovered that they were losing money making the gear since they can't really charge more for it and are having to cut prices back to the pre-3D levels, but they could not sell the gear on the 3D capability alone because consumers were not wow-ed by it. The 3D craze is on the down swing now and I suspect that as the current equipment sells or gets phased out, it will be come an after-thought and then eventually disappear.
