Add me to this club. I get 2 clicks or pops whenever I change discs in the Onkyo DX-C390. I also get some static or white noise when performing certain functions with the Squeezebox; not every time I do things, but I did find a way to repeat the white noise issue every time:
Disconnect the ethernet cable and unplug your Squeezebox (Classic v3 in this case). Now, plug the power back in so it starts searching for a wireless network. After the point where you enter the 26-digit wep key and then arrow right to connect to your network the white noise will be here EVERY time.
I do not get the pops with the CD player or the white noise with the Squeezebox when I take the XDA-1 out of the loop and run things via RCA calbes (instead of optical in the case of the Onkyo and coaxial in the case of the Squeezebox) through the Parasound 2100. Of course this means the Squeezebox and the Onkyo are using there own DACs, but there is nothing that shouldn't be there with the devices internal DACs.
It seems to me the XDA-1 DAC should be muting these instances, but it is not.
I will have to call Lonnie Monday and see if I am missing something here.

hi, What you discribe is the same issue I had with most of my sources - the" double pop / click" sound. I am very surprised not many others have this issue and I assume it's a poor batch of units. I was also somewhat upset that I was charged the shipping back on the units. They had told me they never had heard of this issue from customer support. I have been buying hifi equpiment for about 20 years and with the range of DAC's I've owned I never had this issue. Please do keep the thread updated, Thanks Robin p.s: I also found this link also talking about the click issue: www.stereo.net.au/forums/showthread.php/32921-Pinging-Perth-owner-of-modified-Emotiva-XDA-1-DACfrom the thread: "Just a couple of issues I'm not so keen on so far. A bit of a click in the audio when the source changes sampling frequencies. "

Oh yes i have the same problem, i also mailed them and they never heard of it. I also agree this click should not appear in such a product. Little bit harder for me to send it back to USA since i live in Sweden. Before i had a setup with a Soundstream D/A (for cars) and an analog preamp Embla and had no problems with clicking noise. Probably the cables or preamp killed it.The shortest signalway maybe not the best always .Its mostly clicking trough the optical input from my TV. I will mail them again now when i know there are more people with the same problem, hopefully they will take it seriously.

Interesting to note that the issue did not appear on the original front panels with the linear vol bug...those who seem to have the issue sem to have it after the front panel is replaced...maybe there is a firmware mismatch between the new panel and the old DAC boards???

Congratulations.... Idon`t think you will recieve an answer,i got an answer to my first mail but the second one where i told them a lot of people had the same problem, and i Was dissapointed with the product they never answered. it´s sad this click noise, because the XDA-1 sounds fantastic compared to what i have tested before so i really like the product and just have to get used to the clicking noise and hope my speakers don`t get damaged.

Someone should post the sounds captured on a video clip... if I get some time I will give it a go. this is obviously not just a one off issue...seems to be rather common and is not something that can be ignored...Lonnie comments?

By any chance does everyone on this thread have an Oppo? In order to trouble shoot this same issue, I by passed my XDA and went direct from my Oppo to my amp. Then I went direct from the Oppo to my Airmotiv 4's. While the degree or severity of the pop was not as pronounced direct to Airmotiv's the was a popping noise. Could it be the source? When I go from Oppo to Dynaco St70 to speakers it is a very loud pop and I believe coming from right channel mostly in my case.

I would call it more of a "pop" sound and it appeared after I replaced the front panel board.

My issue with the popping sound is 100% from the XDA when I had it. I tried multiple sources, cables etc. I am no amateur with Hifi. The support was ok and they are very nice and worked with me but this cannot be an acceptable baseline for the unit since there are many with this issue. Again I do think it's a batch of units that had this issue not all.

This is a really strange problem some of the XDA-1 users are encountering. I bought my XDA-1 the first week it was released. This was when the volume ramping was compressed on the low volume range, causing many users to have severely limited volume options. The volume was very loud for users with efficient speakers even with settings of 2 to 10. Normal listening volume with my speakers was obtained with a setting in the mid 20s.
I thought I would be happier with a greater range of volume so had Emotiva do the free conversion for the volume ramping. I now have a setting of about 60 to produce the same volume that I previous had with a setting of 25. The gave me much better control of setting volume levels.
I use my XDA-1 for all my 2-channel digital audio sources and have been very pleased with the sound quality improvement. I have never heard any clicks or pops when playing music or movie soundtracks. The first users reporting this noise when using their XDA-1 made me think they must have a problem with cabling or with the signal coming from their source components. Now I am wondering just what is happening as user's trouble shooting tends to eliminate the source components as the cause. It now has me scratching my head because I have never heard any extraneous noises when using the XDA-1 and I have read many user posts from months ago that they had super clean audio signal coming thru their system since hooking up the XDA-1.
Has anyone got feedback from Emotiva when reporting this issue to them? I am assuming everyone experiencing this has called Emo's tech support. If I am making an incorrect assumption, please to call or e-mail tech support so this can be resolved.

And there we are, haven`t heard from him any more.

I try to connect to XDA-1 my old dvd player Pioneer DVP-470 with optical and then coaxial wire. Results is the same - noise is still here! I am until waiting for answer from emotiva's support.

Count me as someone who does not hear a click. I use the Xda exclusively with a squeezebox v3 as a source. I hear nothing as I change tracks. Will let you know if it changes. I got mine un Feb with the Log volume. Also used it some with USB to pc and didn't notice clicking.

Did anyone get a response this past week? It's been weeks since I sent my E mail(s). I guess I will have to call on Monday. I see Big Dan responding to other threads maybe he can comment on this issue.

Hi guy's, I've got an XDA-1 running in my office system on a Mac Book Pro... never makes bad sounds unless i have it on when the Mac wakes up. I get one or two clicks while everything settles down and locks. It's never bugged me that much as they are low amplitude, and I now make the habit of turning on the Mac before the DAC. No pops. Let me ask Ray or Eric to look into this in more detail so that I can give you a more informed answer... we may need to extend the mute time a little bit more. Cheers, Big Dan BTW; Rocky Mountain Audio fest is really cooking! Should be a great day. Hope to see some of you out here this weekend!!

When I first got my XDA-1, I used it connected, by toslink/coax, to an Oppo BDP-83, Sony ES CD player, Motorola STB and a Panasonic plasma in a two channel bedroom setup, and never had problems with any click noises. I now use it exclusively in my computer room connected by toslink to my Asus motherboard with the Airmotiv 6's providing the sound. In between these two setups I sent it in for the volume fix. No clicking noises/pops ever. Mine did come from the first batch released from Emotiva. I'm sure Ray or Eric will figure this one out as Big Dan has stated.

Did anyone get a response this past week? Yes. Yesterday I got a response from support at last! But there is only common words: "We have not had previous complaints of start up noise with XDA-1. It is most likely some problem with whatever you are using to feed the digital signal to it. What are you using? Is the more than one device connected? If so, do you have the same problem on all devices?"Click noise still bother me.

I am getting the same "crack" at the end of play. I will call emo and find out what is going on. I have isolated it to the XDA-1. It does not do it with the preamp/amp/phono or CD units.
