Cables can be an issue.
But in this case of owners having 2 XDA's and being a cut above your typical big box customer, it would be a rare thing. Couple that with the fact that said owners have been experimenting and pin pointing where the clicking or popping is coming from and you have the cable/component issue dead. Some owners recieved a new front panel with the other volume implementation and that is when the clicking started. Does that sound like a cable issue?
Also, if it was a cable issue, this pop/click thing would have raised its head back when the XDA was first released, or even the release of the CD player. But since this thread started at a specific time last summer, it disproves the cable theory.
My XDA has never popped or clicked with several different cables and components, and I was one of the first purchasers. The XDA was fine in this regard at first release and then in August this symptom suddenly pops up. Any other thoughts?

I am really not sure why, but you seam to be missing what I have been attempting to say. My primary reason to post was to point out that there "may" be other possibilities for hearing the clicks and pops that some are reporting. I never meant for anyone to think that those were the only possible cause. That it was a "possibility" and that they might want to eliminate those causes to help isolate where the problem has originated. I thought that this was clear because I have repeatedly said that "none of us on the forum have the information that Emotiva has and if they have questions about the XDA-1 having a defect they should contact Emotiva's tech support.
I have repeatedly pointed out I do not have enough information to know if the XDA-1 has an identified defect. As passionate as you are that all those reports proves what you believe to be true, you also do not have the information that Emotiva has and that you are only guessing (just like I was guessing). You don't seem to be able to recognize my main point was to have those having problems to call Emotiva for help. In each of my posts, I have repeated they should be talking to Emotiva. Understand? Peace. I will not post any further on this topic as you are arguing about something I never intended. You are arguing points I never made, or at least thought I never made. I was simply trying to help those having issues with the XDA-1 go to the best place for assistance -- Emotiva's Tech Support.

Maybe it takes an old fart to understand the post of another old fart. I thought Roadrunner's posts were very clear. It is easy to jump on Emotiva when there are issues. I know there have been many, many instances here at the Lounge of folks who have a dead channel in their Emotiva amps. (Oh, I paid good hard earned money and one of the amp channels is dead ..... I knew I should have bought the XYZ that my local boutique recommended for only $3000 ...... Oh no, you mean I have the bal/unbal switch in the wrong position?) Maybe that example is not relevant but just because more than two nuts here have had the pop problem doesn't mean there is a mass recall situation here in Franklin. What does seem evident to me is that there are folks who just love to complain without ever having called Emotiva about their issue. THIS THREAD IS NOW LOCKED

The vast majority of owners who report on their XDA-1 have no "clicks" or "pops" in their units. Like Hemster, I received one of the very first XDA-1 DACs and had its volume control upgraded and I have never had any extraneous noises come from my XDA-1. I tend to think those hearing such noises have a problem with the source components or with the cabling. However, none of us on this forum are in a position to know if the XDA-1 might be contributing to this problem. Only Emotiva is in a position to know this information. Should you have any questions about the XDA-1 contact Emotiva's tech support. Roadrunner, this is the post I disagreed with. In it you clearly say that you tend to think those hearing such noises(pops or clicks) have a problem with source components or cabling. You do not suggest this as a possible issue that may be a cause for some to check. You say that you think those having the issue are having a cable or source problem. And while it is a good idea to contact Emotiva in cases like this, you will find that when people experience an issue with their gear, they tend to network online to see if anyone else is having the same issue and what they've done about it. Nothing wrong with that.

Should you have any questions about the XDA-1 contact Emotiva's tech support. I own two XDA-1s - one purchased in late 2011 and the other back in early 2011. Both have logarithmic volume. The old one performs flawlessly but the new one clicks/pops when the audio stream changes (even when using the same sources and interconnects). I've talked to support, they are aware of what's going on and are working on resolving it. I suggest anyone else having this issue contact support and let them know you're interested in the fix when it's ready. Furthermore Roadrunner, Andrew posted a few after your post in question. Here he clearly demonstrates that cables or source components have nothing to do with it. Emotiva has told him that they are aware of this issue and are working to resolve it. And I'm not sure why Chuck thinks this thread is locked, but nobody I've read here is saying this should be a recall situation. It is a legitimate issue, however, and Emotiva is taking it seriously even if you prefer to refer to them as 'nuts'. heheh

Apparently this thread is NOT locked. Perhaps it needs more burn-in?
