Hi friends! Look at picture of inner space of dacmagic img212.imageshack.us/img212/910/dacmagic2lz8.jpg . You can see four relay's (marked 'massuse') that blocked audio-outputs when needed and so eliminating any noise. I wonder - why Emotiva did not go by the same way?

I was considering the DACmagic prior to owning the XDA1. If it worked well I would have kept it but the click noise would have driven me nuts. I had to pay to send it back w/i the 30 day for which I was out $50 (note: other online sites do not charge for rtn shipping if there is a defect, which there does seem to be). I am now looking at buying either a DACmagic, MF V-DAC MKII, Firestone Audio Spitfire MkII or the Arcam Solo - have not settled on one yet. R

I spoke with Matt at Emo yesterday. He issued an RMA for my DAC. According to his consult with his techs he believes it could be a capacitor problem.
They are on the ball for good service, but this issue appears to be had by others and EMO should get a handle on it fast.

I really like the build quality and it was a well priced unit. I also agree the overall service was good however I don't think I will be purchasing equipment from them in the future based on my experience with this first purchase.

I realize I"m late in this discussion but I'm not experiencing any issues what-so-ever with clicking. I'm feeding the DAC with Optical digital from my EMO CD player and love it.

Okay so I have finally been able to get this on video. Listen to the LOUD pop between trackS. Lonnie, Vince or Dan, hopefully you'll catch this thread and if not I will email tech support. Please help as this is a real pain. I am happy to get on the phone and troubleshoot with anyone if needed. Current I have my Oppo 93 connected via Coax to the XDA which is connectd to my Dynaco ST 70. db.tt/obn9KNIA

Hi Friends!
A last friday I have received parcel with old front panel from Emotiva support. After setting it I don't hear any noise/clicks more. It is very cool! Thanks you for right information!

I just received my XDA-1 yesterday. I've been using it with an Oppo BDP 80 and computer connected via USB and optical/coax with a Lepai TA2021 t-amp - sound is very good. Not much difference between the three sources - all sound great and all without any pops or noises of any kind. The popping seems to be confined to a few bad units.

How can you say it is confined to a few bad units? I'm glad you don't have an issue but there are quite a few of us that do. Especially, those of us that had early units and switched the front panel board out to solve the volume issue.

I understand how you feel - I've been one of those with a malfunctioning product while nearly every one else wasn't having a problem with it. That didn't make it a huge crisis - the problem was - relatively speaking - isolated to a 'few' units. Probably under 1%. Not a few meaning 2 or 3 bad units. Do you have actual percentage of bad units? I don't but had there been a big batch of bad units I'm sure this thread would have been flooded with posts about this. There are a lot of forum members with the XDA-1 in their sig line. I don't see all/most/many of them posting here. If 10% of the XDA-1s have this problem then it is a big problem. I think once Emotiva gets a handle on this you'll have your fix. Think of it like a heavy rain - when it's raining hard on your head it feels like its raining all over the world.

Okay kids. I am going to go back to one of my original assertions. Could it be the source that is the issue. I just connected my Oppo 93 directly to my amp and was able to repeat the popping sounds that I videoed above. So I am not convinced my issue is my XDA.

hi - when I had my XDA-1 unit I really tried to make sure as best as I could that it wasn't the source units and I did try quite a few, every time there was a signal stream lock I got the click noises.
It probably would be ok if I was using a device like a computer or a squeezebox which likely sends out digital signal once it is turned on and remains 'stable' till it's off.
I can say that using my source units with my other receiver (with built in DAC) I have not noted the 'click'.
Glad to hear others seem to be getting resolution with the change of the front panel. I'm sure the company will trace the root cause and fix them -
thanks Rob

Hi guy's, I've got an XDA-1 running in my office system on a Mac Book Pro... never makes bad sounds unless i have it on when the Mac wakes up. I get one or two clicks while everything settles down and locks. It's never bugged me that much as they are low amplitude, and I now make the habit of turning on the Mac before the DAC. No pops. Let me ask Ray or Eric to look into this in more detail so that I can give you a more informed answer... we may need to extend the mute time a little bit more. Cheers, Big Dan BTW; Rocky Mountain Audio fest is really cooking! Should be a great day. Hope to see some of you out here this weekend!! By any chance, did you find the answer to this? It is happening here whenever the sample rate changes, and the sound is a crack like a rifle shot. Can't let the system play random songs because it will inevitably find a 24/96 track or two from where I recorded a bunch of our vinyl albums. Result, the very loud crack makes we worry about the speakers. Only had the DAC since last Friday, and it only started this behavior yesterday. I did email support, but have not heard from them in 24 hours. Since I just bought the DAC, no way to return it if it is defective, and truth be told - I like the thing. A Lot. I just hate the idea of not being able to use it because of this. -Paul Raulerson

Bought a xda for blue Friday and I get the clicks both on optical from my ps3 and coaxial from my Sony s580. Always happen when I choose to play any CD. Always occurs on initial load. It get louder with more volume applied. The only solution I found is to hit mute whenever I load a CD, not pop then, I don't think I get clicks or pops on the USB port. These devices do not do the same thing on my Harmon receiver, so must be some type of issue with the dac. I patiently wait for a solution from emotiva unless the unit is truly defective, then RMA I guess. Minus the clicking and pops on initial load, my unit is smooth and dead quiet on playback.

I am having a strange issue in that i get audio dropouts from my XDA-1, its like a 1 second dropout when there is a static charge or when i hit something even when it is from accross the room. I don't have this issue when i have my cd player hooked up through toslink too the XDA-1, it seems too only be an issue with my computer hooked up through spdif. Do you guys think it is my coax cable or could it be my motherboard. This is really strange.
