My Emotiva USP-1 Pre amp is currently my go to headphone amp for my 300ohm Sennheiser HD600's.
With these specs on your Q702's
Sensitivity headphones 105 dB SPL/V Max. Input Power 200 mW Rated Impedance 62 Ohms
the Q702's are easy to drive and the XSP-1 should have no problem driving them and sound very good.

The DC-1 is an audibly better amp than the XSP-1 and the USP-1. It does better on my Sennheiser HD600's than the XSP-1 Axis.

The DC-1 is an audibly better amp than the XSP-1 and the USP-1. It does better on my Sennheiser HD600's than the XSP-1 Axis. Garbulky, I was using my HD600's with my DC-1 for a good while and was very happy. I had tried several headphones in the past on my USP-1 like my Senn HD280 pro's and old Senn HD 535's and it sounded like crap. Seriously ! One day I took my HD600's over and plugged them into my USP-1. Mind you this is using the ERC-1's analog out to the USP-1. The USP-1 headphone output seems to deal with the 300 ohm and higher load better than the DC-1. I spent a bunch of time going back and forth and the USP-1 headphone amp won. Come on Lonnie ! Make us a Headphone amp. There is an Explosion going on in the Headphone Audio World. Make a Balanced Headphone amp with watts output (not milliwatts) that can handle the up to 600 ohms needed to drive the Sennheiser HD-800's can's. Maybe a OTL Tube Headphone amp like the Bottlehead Crack, Woo Audio WA3 or Schiit Valhalla 2.

Have a xsp-1 Gen 2 coming tomorrow aND wondering if it would be smart to get a xlr to rca for the sub since it don't a have xlr connection to keep the levels the same as I'll be using xlr for the other amps?

The level is controlled by the gain knob (volume) on your sub. I don't think there is any harm either way doing what you say.

\ congrats on your purchase.. love my xsp 1... Thanks! Quick question.. is it best to set the crossovers at 80 (12 o'clock possition) on both or just the hf? That depends entirely on the speakers and sub, I cross mine over at 50Hz with great results.

\ congrats on your purchase.. love my xsp 1... Thanks! Quick question.. is it best to set the crossovers at 80 (12 o'clock possition) on both or just the hf? Welcome to the XSP-1 owners club Best? It really depends on the speakers, particularly the sub, as well as the room that they are in. Plus personal preferences of course. There's about as many theories about what frequency to cross over as there are smarties in a 2kg packet. Personally as a point to start (may not be where you end up) is to set both at 80 hz, so as to really roll off the lows at around 50 hz and the highs at around 100 hz. That helps with not over emphasising (too loud) the frequencies between 70 hz and 90 hz. Example..............
Plus 80 hz is not too bad a pace to start as most people cannot localize frequencies below that so blending is not an issue. That means you can position the sub for the best response without playing havoc with the stereo imaging from the FL and FR speakers.
Cheers Gary

\ congrats on your purchase.. love my xsp 1... Thanks! Quick question.. is it best to set the crossovers at 80 (12 o'clock possition) on both or just the hf? I have my cross over set at about 100... let the subs do the base.. it is a slow roll after the cross over.. -12 db per octave I believe.. so the stereo speakers are fading out nicely down at 50hz and the subs are doing the work.. vs at 80 its 40 hz.. let your subs do the work .. working for my system .. I believe the dial is about 20 hz per dash.. think mine are at 9.30 10 oclock been so long I cant really remember.. 12 oclock would be a much higher cross over 140 ish.. cheers..

Thanks guys.. been enlightening for me!
God I need a new sub. My old crappy polk audio 404b subwoofer specs show only like 32hz at 3dbs at its lowest.400+ watts peak.. 10" driver. Geeze. I don't think I can do 5-700+ for a new sub.
Might wana just do no sub for music for now but I'll try messing around with the crossovers some more.
My lsim705s fronts spec at 42hz at 3dbs.
I did run these speakers for music and movies with no sun for like 4 years till I blew oe of the woofers on the 705 and had it replaced under warranty. Was told to use a sub to take the stress off the mains, so I grabbed the sub off the basement setup for now about a month ago.

Ok thanks.. oh and 50 is prob 9 o'clock on the dial? 50Hz is the lowest crossover point on the XSP-1, so the position would be closer to 7 O'clock or simply turn it counterclockwise all the way. Keep in mind, your main speakers should be pretty flat to at least 50Hz using this crossover point. Personally, I chose that crossover point because the mid to upper bass on the Wharfedales is simply stunning and I wanted the least effect at that range. I just want the sub do what the Wharfedales can't do as well, deeeep bass.

Despite the theoretical "benefits" of the crossover, I've had the best blend by just running my main speakers full range & using the low-pass crossover on the sub's plate amp to blend the sub. If you USE the crossover on the XSP-1, then both high and low pass are unbalanced (despite the fact that you can still use the XLR outputs). I think that the extra circuitry also flattens the dynamics of the sound. My (now previous) XSP-1 sounded better when not using the high-pass crossover.

Boomzilla Ah... so that's why the xsp-1 says tone control is on when I'm not using the tone controls. Currently I've been trying to avoid using the crossover on the sub plate so I don't have to fool with it everytime I play music from reg tv. Also using a rca splitter to the left and right in on the sub since it don't have xlr inputs to attempt to keep the volume up. It's prob all a mess right now.

Set them to 70hz earlier today and loved rhe sound. Gave my wife who was off of work a listen to 3 good sounding songs I have on the pc and didn't say anything to her.. she said it sounded good and I said it sounds like it's coming from the middle speaker right? She says yes. I pull the speaker cable from the center to show her it's just coming from the mains and she was shocked hehe.. it's just stereo and the whole center area here is where all the sounds are being projected from. To say the lest she was impressed with the sound quality. Wish she could get I to it more so I won't have to bug much about a new subwoofer haha
