I agree on the midrange (I think I noted that in my comments/review on the unit), and had I a different set of speakers I might not be happy with the AV7005 (note that I'm referring completely to 2-CH full range (no sub) music listening). I had picked up a pair of Vienna Acoustic Mozart to try out earlier this year, and I felt the Marantz paired much more favorably with my Rockets. The thinner sound was more evident to my ears with the Mozart as compared to the Rockets which sound wonderful with the AV7005. The VA's went back. Comparably, I felt the UMC-1 and Onkyo 886 I used to own had a more open/full sound to them, but on a whole the AV7005 just sounds better with music on the Rockets. I completely agree. The Marantz makes an outstanding PrePro if matched with the right speakers. Its very musical, clear and dynamic. It just wasn't the best match for my Selahs. It's all about system synergy. :-) So now that you have an Anthem AVM50, just how much of an improvement have you experienced compared to your past pre/pro's. I know what my ears told me when comparing the Anthem AVM50v and the Integra DHC-80.2, but I'd like to hear someone elses thoughts.

I really really really like the Anthem. It has all the positives of the Marantz AV7005 plus a perfectly balanced tone. Dialog is also more legible with the Anthem, for instance, during transformers dark side of the moon, there are several lines of dialog that I didn't understand before but now are clear as day. It's also one if the most logical and easy to use PrePro's that I've used. ARC is the real deal and IMO is clearly superior to Audyssey XT. Can't comment on XT32 though as I haven't tried it. It also sounds wonderful with music as well so I'll probably not bother with a seperate preamp. Video processing is also top notch and is as good or better than anything I've seen. To sum up, I can't see anyone not being happy with an Anthem processor.

I guess the real question should've been, "Whats not to like about the Anthem?" I noticed on AVS that you've been having problems getting ARC up and running, any luck yet? If you end up calling Anthem tech support, let us know what you think about that as well. Customer service, IMO, is part of the package, so hopefully they are reliable. Enjoy it!!!

If you end up calling Anthem tech support, let us know what you think about that as well. Customer service, IMO, is part of the package, so hopefully they are reliable. Enjoy it!!! I purchased mine as a dealer demo unit and it has performed flawlessly except for an ARC error that is preventing me from running ARC. Hopefully tomorrow with Anthem supports help we'll figure out what the problem is. My previous comments regarding ARC come from using the MRX300 as a PrePro prior to the Marantz. I ran ARC multiple times with it and it performed flawlessly. The only negative I've encountered with the Anthem is that you can't use a sub when running analog direct. All bass mgmt is in the digital domain so you have to use "analogdsp" mode in which the signal is converted from analog to digital, processed, and then converted back to analog. Therefore, I use a digital connection for two channel with sub to avoid the a-d conversion but also run analog to another input to use as analog direct. This way I can just flip between inputs to listen to either analog direct with no sub or a processed signal with sub. I'll post tomorrow regarding the ARC situation. I'm loving the sound now and excited that it will get even better with the room correction.

Kal Rubinson on ARC (Anthem Room Correction) kit from the Anthem Statement D2v2 Surround Processor in comparison to Audyssey MultEQ Pro room correction software:
"Using the optimized ARC Advanced settings elevated my system's performance to a new level." The "honest immediacy" of ARC's v1.2.5 upgrade benefited movies and video, but for music Kal preferred the Audyssey's "silky smoothness and harmonic integration."

This is exactly what I'm afraid of! ;D Lol, just go for it, you'll be glad you did. I almost ended up with an AVM50v in my rack back in April of this year. Summer on the Florida Gulf Coast convinced me to replace my 20 year old heat pump/AC, and at much larger expense, so the house definitely had to come first. Looking on the good side, I've replaced the roof and AC in the last 3 years so I'm hopefully not looking at any other huge home expenses for the foreseeable future(fingers crossed). I am however going to wait out the XMC-1, and if not satisfied, will move on to the Anthem.

Sounds like a good plan and I considered the XMC as well but decided I didn't want to wait plus I prefer Anthems room correction. The XMC should be an awesome PrePro though.

Almost all hooked up. A cable has come loose from the back of the amp which is inaccessible to me and my helper says he's coming over today so he can pull out the rack and reattach the cable. All will be working then and I'll be able to evaluate the sound and run Audyysey (sp?). Its frustrating, ten years ago I would have done all the moving by myself.

ALL hooked up at last! Sounds great. Haven't run Audyssey yet. Probably tomorrow, I want to enjoy it a bit first. Very transparent. I do not think it lacks any thing in comparison to the sound of the UMC-1. I wouldn't want it any "warmer" as the AV7005 is said to be.

Fantastic and hope the sound is for your ears.I would not use Audyssey for critical music listening as I prefer it for Movies with Sub listening with the XT32.Please let us know how it stacks up with the UMC-1 as my 3008 does my sound justice for Direct Multichannel Analog to my Oppo-95.Good luck with your great new toy.

I do want to add that I did not find the Marantz AV7005 to be warm at all. Actually a bit bright when matched with the XPA-5. I do find Marantz receivers to be a tad warm so maybe it's their amp section. The Anthem is warm sounding by comparison but still very detailed. I'm now getting the best sound I've ever had in my home. now I just need a pair of XPA-1's
