Amps have changed a lot since 1969 when solid state amplification was still new. I remember solid state amps from that era and they did not sound good. As others have mentioned, power into four ohms is also an issue.

Widespread Panic!
That's what went thru our hooch the first night of the Tet Offensive in 1969 when Charlie sent in about 25 round of Russian made rockets. First time I'd peed my pants since I was in 1st grade.
(nice sounds! ;D)

As others have mentioned, power into four ohms is also an issue. We had separates from Pioneer and Sansui in 1969 in Vietnam that were pretty nice, but I don't think they ever saw the light of day in the States. Guys brought them back from R&R in Hong Kong and Tokyo, etc. Correction: I'm now having flashbacks and I think they were integrated amps, sorry. (I can see the toggles on the front panel.)

I pee my pants regularly, it keeps my ego in check. Also helps me laugh at myself!

Back then I compared everything to my father's Stereo 70 so perhaps it was just that the Stereo 70 was so good.

(nice sounds! ;D) My first time to pee in my pants in VN was the first time we were on patrol and ran into Charlie and our platoon leader hollered "machine gun, get up here". I was the machine gun!!! My saving grace was we were in the monsoon season so we were always wet. ;D

Yes, I helped my father put the Dynaco together. Its what got me into this hobby and DIY. Back when point to point wiring was the norm. I remember a friend got a Sansui and thinking how much more I liked the Dynaco's sound. I "inherited" the Dynaco when my father got a solid state receiver. My brother eventually borrowed it and sold it.

I guess all you Axiom "lovers" would say "If I had been carrying an M80, as shrill as it sounds, it would have scared Charlie off and we would have won the war". Well I like my Axioms even if I am the only one who does!!!!!!!!! ;D

hello sorry to post till now but has been a busy day at work.
Well i dont know if to be more afraid or not because well my budget for this is not unlimited like the solutions of buy 2 xpa-1 and you will listen the heaven its not posible right now to me and if i could do it, it will take away that boxie sound ?
now my original plan was to buy a xpa-5 and get my home teather done, but this would make the 8.3 sound decent?
i know that my infinity are super eficient speakers and my old gradiente moves them with easy and the emotivas are a very diferent animal, but i never spected get a lot of slp, but a decent sound and what bothers me its that even at 80 db was so plane the sound not linear but plane and dull. my room its small wood celing , stone floor its temporaly because im moving with my girlfriend next month ( so thats why i dont have a lot of money for this and well the pesos vs dollar diference)
i suspected the amp was not to the task but i didnt think it gonna be so terrible
i really preciate all your answers because last night i was like o what i have done and i got a lot of answers right away

The Emo XPA-2 is $100 less than the XPA-5. Why not start with the XPA-2 and later as you have the money add an XPA-3. If not, the XPA-5 now in 2 channel mode should put out about 350-375 watts or more per channel into 4 ohms/2 channels into the 8.3's and you might find that is plenty of power in your room, especially if the room is not very large. You might find that the XPA-5 is just fine for your complete 5 speaker system as it will put out about 310 watts into the 8.3's, much more and stable 4 ohm power than you have now. Later adding a powered sub will help even more as the amp in the sub will make the XPA-5 work easier driving the 8.3's if you set the crossovers correctly
Even the XPA-5 will be a huge and very audible improvement over what you have now. The amp you have now is a complete mismatch for the 8.3's!

Well I will throw in my two cents. I don't have the 8.3's and never heard them. I did have the 6.2's. When I had them I thought they were pretty good speakers and did not sound boxy.
The way you describe the 8.3's makes them sound like they are awful speakers. While speakers are a matter of preference, I find it hard to believe that they could sound as bad as you say they sound - I have to think that part of the problem is with your equipment. Something in the chain is not up to par.
I could understand if you said the speakers are not to your liking, or were lacking in some respects, but your description makes them sound like they are really bad and I've never heard anyone describe them that way. They should be somewhat similar to the 6.2's and I can't imagine anyone saying the 6.2 is a bad speaker.
Have you checked to make sure all of the individual speakers in each cabinet are working?

Yes, the XPA-5 will do an excellent job of driving the ERT-8.3 speakers. The XPA-5 is designed to have excellent 4 Ohm load performance. The only reason that I did not list the XPA-5 up with the XPA-1, XPA-2 and UPA-1 is I had no idea if you were only going to have a 2-channel system.
Since the UPA-1 uses one of the same power modules as is used in the XPA-5, you would get the same power output to your speakers with either one of them. The reason your speakers were sounding so lifeless and dull is because your current amp is not able to handle the load that the ERT-8.3 speakers present to it. The XPA-5 will make them sound like entirely new and better speakers.
Once you are able to afford to purchase the XPA-5 amp the only remaining concerns you will have is proper placement of your speakers and proper calibration of your HT system. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone saying the ERT-8.3 sounded lifeless or dull... they are one of the most dynamic speakers around. Once you are able to feed them a steady diet of XPA power you will be amazed.
Chuckienut, I see you beat me to the punch this time. ;D I guess I should have waited to take my bathroom break. lol

I have the 8.3's connected to an XPA-5 and I like them very very much.

well monkumonku maybe i didnt explain my self i pointed to my opinion and what i hear i never said they are bad speakers i say they sound bad to me with my equipment and my room and certain music. in fact in my very first post i blame my integrated amp,
as chuckienut pinted maybe my amp and speakers are those cases of complete mismatch.

road runner you are the champion of emotiva you always stand infront for them ( sorry a little joke with all respect ) yeah i think what i hear does not match the opinion of many owners, i mean maybe as some ones they dont like the style of they sound that sa personal taste but i never read something like im describing like dull so the problem must be the amp. i was expecting a sound superior to the sound of the b&w 683 with a powerfull bass and nice mids , but after i read all your posts i thinked well they sounded great because they where powered by rotel electronics and in a acondicioned room so if my electronics are not good i cant expect a nice sound in the room positioning i will post picts and if i sounded like trashing the speakers its not my intention mabe i was like shoked of what i hear

Oh, I didn't mean you were saying the speakers were bad in a global or objective sense. I know you meant they sounded bad to you and it was your opinion. But it doesn't matter - if they sounded that bad to you, it just seemed like something was wrong besides the speakers because the description made it seem like something was defective and not just the natural character of the speakers.
