maybe I'll snap a few tomorrow during the holiday. got to show the world the interlude/spl-1500R combo. I also made a new custom center channel stand that sits taller to bring the dialogue higher. Better imaging in music as well =)

Hi Guys,
All the pics are great. I am going to be building a new house in the coming months and want to start to plan out my dedicated "Play Room" ;D
What are the sizes of your different rooms?
Does anyone have any suggestions on layout, setup etc.....?
I am considering closing off the garage space and using that for the dedicated room and then going with a detached garage istead....
I have one room that is 15'3"x12'11" that could be used or if I close off the garage i get 26'x23'
I am no expert here guys and am really looking for input.
Thanks,

Mine is a bit under 14X24. I believe there is a "magic" ratio of around 1.8 but I think it's more important to make sure your room responds well acoustically by placing some diffusing elements in it (i.e. built ins, acoustic panels....etc.). I personally have a place where I get some standing waves that I still need to address. But the introduction of the SPL-1500R almost cured the problem exclusively on it's own with it's auto eq. No more Drop off in DB.

My room is about 19' x 12.5'. Sometimes a smaller is easier to fill with sound (i.e. you don't need as larger or pwerfull of an amp, etc.). However you don't wnat it to feel closterphobic.
What size TV are you planing to use and how many rows of seating?

Thanks, If at all possible, try to have a rectangular room such as 20x12 rather than a square room 15x15 for example, square rooms are much harder to tame sound than a rectangular one, of course room treatments also makes a huge difference, try to keep reflective surfaces such as hardwood flooring and big windows to a minimum, the softer the room the better the sound, in my HT I actually went as far as using black fabric on the walls rather than the normal drywall which is VERY reflective, with the soft sound blocking insulation behind it I have come pretty close to a sound studio like quality. Note: wife approval factor is not very high but its my room....so hey! Also, having the whole room including the ceilings in black cloth make a huge difference for watching films on the big screen. Good luck and enjoy!

One reason we bought his house (July '04) was the big upstairs loft for a future home theater. Just had to await the release of: Emo big dogs Panny AE700 Testing the chairs, seating distance and screen size: Green Glue & 4 layers of sheetrock (quite soundproof) walls and 2nd underfloor layer A hard month later: 18" platform so kids in the back can see over adults' heads And, lastly, the former closet: Added in the last year: PS3 TVIX 4100 media player (now I keep my hundreds of DVDs on my server - photo taken on downstairs TV): (TVIX: HDMI/SVID/Component, opt & coax digital, ISO's, VOB, dts, MPG2/3/4, DIVX, jpg, int. SATA + 4 network (SMB & NFS) + 2 USB drive capable, handles media to 1080)

Nice setup glen. I have thought about going to a media server, but with the number of DVDs I own, the amount of stoarge needed is not affordable at this point in time. Maybe in a few years.

doug917 - ever thought of picking up an Escient fireball system? You can find them reasonably priced used on ebay and simply partner it up with a Sony ES 400 disc dvd changer. I run this system right now for 600 dvds (I use 2 changers) and would not want to live without it. The user interface is quite slick and adding dvds is a breeze as the system recognizes when new dvds are added to the changers, reads the discs and then goes out on the web to find the appropriate disc cover and movie info.
My wife thinks it is the best investment I ever made in my HT setup.

Markusp,
My problem (if one would choose to call it that) is that I have more than 2200 DVDs. I need to wait until 15-20 tera-bytes of storage becomes relatively inexpensive. I think eventually all media is going to disappear and everything will be downloaded.

2200?!?! If you divide by 10, then you have how many I own =) ok, so it's more like 260, but still!

I used to buy DVDs for super-cheap back when places like reel.com and the like were in business. I've also had a "few" memberships at columbiahouse.com. dvdtalk.com used to (and probably still does...I haven't checked it out in a while) list all kinds of bargains as well. Recently, I don't think i have bought a DVD in about 6 months...I should probably get on that!
