This provides an update to yesterday’s Emofest notes. This came from news shared in the demo-rooms, Q&A session, Big Dan’s kickoff speech, and various questions through the 2 days. Many of us tried to take the various questions asked by Lounge member following yesterday’s notes and get you answers. This includes as many answers as we could get. Thanks a lot Mark, yesterday I sent to you 2 questions for the Emotiva team and today you came back from the Emofest with my 2 answers. I have no words to tell you how I appreciate, you make the bridge between us that could not be at Emofest and the Emo team and it is only to make service. I think you must win the " Emotiva Lounge medal of honor award "

I agree. I'll likely purchase the RMC for my music room and an XMC for my HT. I was told that the RMC would look significantly different from the XMC. It would have an upgraded "sexy" chassis. Wow RMC for your music room, killer What is in that room? My current speakers are custom LS9s with upgraded Duelund crossovers. Preamp is from Dodd Audio. Now I am just waiting on my new Dodd 200 watt custom monoblocks. I have been using my XPA-1s for the amps (may move those to the HT).

I never really thought about adding the music room to the list. I guess I should remove the Dodd amps from the list. I added them when I first commissioned them. They were on my mind when I completed my profile. LOL

Ultimately I'll likely pick up Danny's new open baffle design that uses the Neo 10s and use those in the music room. I'll probably move the Duelund crossover 9's to the HT as fronts and have full 9's all around. I'll probably sell the 6's one day.

Mark, thank you for asking my question, about multi-channel streaming via USB port on XMC-1, to Dan! For me this is an essential feature as I'm running a linux based HTPC (OpenElec) on an AMD Fusion system. The closed source AMD video driver for Linux doesn't support multi-channel audio via HDMI (!?) therefor I would like to stream the audio via USB....

I wonder if multichannel DSD can go through USB and if that's a usual method of transmission. The asus xonar HDAV 1.3 which has an HDMI out which transmits (I believe) the full resolution blu-ray signal. www.asus.com/Multimedia/Audio_Cards/Xonar_HDAV13/Though you may have trouble using it with Linux...

But I'm on the fence for a Tactless unit, I see all these new products and wonder if they are spreading their resources too thin. If the 3rd party coders are the bottleneck and they can't do anything about it well, ok I guess, but I hope that every person who could make a difference is working on it and not another future product. I'd use an XMC without TaCT but I'm uncomfortable with the promise. TacT works in the XMC-1; they are just changing the interface to make it less complicated for the average user (remember that some people can't work the UMC-1 menus, can you imagine them with the Tact interface?). So why not allow buyers to choose if they want the "techie" interface and the TACT enabled when they buy? Some of us might be OK with a "quirky" interface to start with. Especially if you can control it via computer too.

I'm interested in support of multichannel PCM and bitstreaming of DTS-MA and Dolby Digital HD via USB. Not so much of DSD (being stereo or multi-channel). I'll look into the Asus Xonar card if this might be an option other wise I'm forced to replace the current mini-ITX board (based on AMD E450) with a mini-ITX board based on a "low power Intel "Ivy Bridge processor.

Ah gotcha. I've honestly never heard of multi-channel USB over PCM though I guess it may be possible. Something to note is that blu-ray audio has HDCD secuirty protocols that limit the 24 bit /96 khz signal and down convert it to 24 bit 48 khz when even one component is not properly following its protocols. So its possible that even if you get this to work, multi-channel PCM over USB especially using Linux would be an issue due to HDCD and cause a downgrade from 96 khz to 48 khz. Though a person would likely not be able to hear an audible difference. I think your biggest issue would really be your OS. Good luck.

Klinemj and others that took the time to post.
Can't thank you guys enough for making the effort to fill all the rest of us in. The volume of information that you provided is just awesome.
Thank you for thinking enough about the rest of us to take notes and coherently put them out there for the rest of us. I'm sure that it would have been very easy to just enjoy the show.

What bout the upcoming AMD Jaguar or Trinity? It is not a hardware limitation but a software limitation of the closed source Linux driver of AMD (open source has the same limitation also). The AMD windows driver doesn't have this limitation. Streaming of multi-channel PCM, bitstreaming of DTS-MA and Dolby HD works under windows. I only don't want to run my HTPC under Windows due to very bad experiences in the past with such a system.

Have you submitted a bug report to AMD? Maybe they will fix it, that would be the best outcome.
