I actually got mine at $699! I just avoided the highest price. I would rather have had $499, but as with everything - prices can go up and down and we pay what the prevailing price is.
Of course, mine is better as it had special $699 pixie dust sprinkled on it by Lonnie himself prior to shipment.

Are they going to offer the pixie dust as an aftermarket upgrade ?

Does anyone else get a small "pop" through their speakers when putting the unit on standby?

Clearear, I get no popping either, but it certainly will not hurt to leave your DC-1 turned on all of the time. In fact, many people do just that anyway. Good luck!

Because... we would all rather be able to say we have an $899 DAC, not a $499 DAC. Dan, please institute a policy of releasing new products at 3x the price it will eventually be listed at. Well lucky me ,then..........
I bought my DC-1 when it was $699.00 and its now $499.00.
Guess I got bragging rights ...... Same here, I paid $699.00 for mine. I'll take my $699 DC-1 over these cheaper $499 versions any day of the week.

Just got my DC-1 from the UPS guy! Can't wait to get home and hook it up If I'm happy with it, I will be selling my XDA-2 soon.

Had a chance to listen to a few songs early this evening with my new DC-1 and WOW this is really a nice DAC/preamp. Definitely a substantial step up from my beloved XDA-2. Not necessarily night and day but enough to IMO justify the price difference. Most noticeable is the bass. It has more authority and the mid range has more presence (this is the best way I could describe). Those are just initial outright impressions. Will try to A-B with the XDA-2 in the next few days and see if my impressions will change either way. Very satisfied right now and feels good about this purchase.

I was most taken by the open, transparent highs (cymbals) without any harshness.....

I was most taken by the open, transparent highs (cymbals) without any harshness..... same here. was much more of a "the musicians are on the room" sound rather than a very good recording sound...I will never get rid of the DC-1. multiple times I have switched to using airplay in my avr to "see" if maybe i can get away with selling the dc-1. each time i am thoroughly disappointed..and hurry back to the DC1

Just that it was more "real" for me. A darn nice DAC at a knock out price.
