I have been setting up my new UMC-200 and tried several sources (TV, PC, PS3, Xbox360).
When playing back Pandora through my PC (optical out from PC to OPT1 in on UMC-200) I get 2 quick popping sounds (mostly audible through the SVS-PB13 Ultra sub) between 2 songs.
I get a bunch of these noises when playing back BR discs from the PS3 (connected by HDMI) when the playback is started, between previews, and when switching to main menue/feature presentation.
I have not experienced this when using the optical out from my HD-TV or analog source (Shanling tube CD).
I have not had this problem with my old Outlaw990 or the new Outlaw975.
I wonder if anyone else here has made a similar observation or, even better, knows how to fix this? I am pretty sure I have not exhausted all possible setup permutations but I am looking for a quick fix since I am trying to decide whether to keep the Outlaw975 or the UMC-200.
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is it associated with a mute function? Do you hear it when you manually activate mute? Or does it seem to happen only when a bitstream stops?

I've not heard any "popping" noises through my speakers with a Motorola Comcast STB or Oppo BDP-93 connected through HDMI or an ERC-2 connected through either coax output or analog output. Have you called and talked with Emotiva Tech support yet?

Thanks for the responses here. I apologize for not commenting earlier. The popping noises occur when the bitstream is interrupted as it apparently happens on PANDORA between songs or when on the BR you move from previews to main feature. In the former case, the status window is being displayed whenever a new song starts stating what type of audio signal is being received.
I have not called TechSupport yet but will try to do so this week since there does not seem to be a fix out in the public domain.
@ dlechnr: Please let me know if the good folks at Emotiva came up with a resolution.

When I upgraded my video card on my HTPC to Nvidea I got the same popping sounds. It turns out the PC audio drivers were faulty. When I installed an AMD card and new audio drivers the popping disappeared. So try reinstalling your drivers. Good luck

Johncs,
Thank you for sharing. I don't think this is applicable in my case since audio is transmitted solely through the toslink connection between PC and UMC-200.
I also ge the same popping sound when turning on the source, turning it off, switching inputs, turning the UMC-200 on and off. Some of this would be expected but not at the level I am experiencing. I tried 2 different Outlaw processors and a receiver but did not have this problem.
Keep the suggestions coming....

My UMC-200 sometimes makes a loud popping noise when I change channels or FF or REW my DirecTV DVR. Sometimes the noise is a loud"skipping" sound that doesn't stop until I change the channel or FF or REW. The problem occurs when the audio signal is reacquired after having been lost. Which leads to another pet peeve of mine, I hate that the audio is dropped and reacquired when I FF or REW my DVR. It causes the Emotiva OSD to display the type of incoming signal on the TV every time you FF or REW. I had to disable the OSD. That is obviously very minor compared to the LOUD pop that sometimes happens.

Also interested in this...
I also get popping noise when player is sending bitstream. I then changed the player to send PCM which eliminated the popping noise.

Sound like a firmware bug. Wonder when the firmware uploader will be made available? And a patch to fix what must be at least a few known issues by now.

I get this as well. It appears to happen when a new bitstream source starts up. I think it is happening when the UMC-200 is attempting to lock onto the stream. Instead of staying muted until the lock is acquired it unmutes and you here the loud pop. It happens on my windows media center pc (Mac Mini with HDMI out to the UMC-200 running windows). Did not use to happen in OSX but I need HD audio support so I had to switch to windows.
