I'm getting the popping through my sub when connected to the UMC-200. Before I had it connected to a Yamaha receiver and never got any pops. I've ordered another cable to go between the sub and the UMC-200 to see if that will help. Is the popping only an annoyance or can it harm the sub or UMC? I'm running a 5.1 setup with a UMC-200 and a XPA-5 and an active sub.
EDIT: Actually it is loudest through the subwoofer, but all the speakers pop if I listen carefully when there is a state change w.r.t. the audio input format. I disconnected everything apart from the interconnect to my XPA-5 for the LF speaker and had a playstation 3 as source playing a BD. When going through the intro's it goes pop, pop, pop everytime the format changes. I noticed by the way that switching the XPA on also makes all speakers pop and turning on the UMC-200 also makes all speakers pop but it is more subtle than the pop due to the XPA being switched on. Any got any ideas what is going on here?
EDIT: Also tested UMC-200 with only tv, PS3 and sub connected. XPA totally disconnected. Still pops.

The popping noise most likely occurs when muting the volume by shunting to ground, not when un-muting. If muting was implemented by a fast volume ramp down instead of shunting to ground then the pop would not occur or become inaudible. Might as well implement un-mute by quickly ramping the volume up while you are at it.
Also, some speakers and amplifiers are simply more susceptible to this type of mute circuit than others. This includes some very expensive and respected equipment.
You should hear the same pop or click when you use the mute button.
I will wait patiently for the checks to arrive in my mailbox:-)

Will the pops damage speakers or the sub amp? Especially when starting a blu-ray there's a whole bunch of pops right after another because of all the intro's.

I too am experiencing this popping when a stream is starting with the UMC-200. I have two XPA-1's for the main speakers, and an XPA-2 for the rear speakers with emotiva HDMI and RCA cables for connection to a DiretTV PVR and an NVIDIA card in a custom Home Theater PC. I hear the popping with both sources. My old Onkyo PR-SC5508 which died did not experience this issue with all the same equipment, so this is an UMC-200 problem that I hope Emotiva addresses since it is quite annoying.

I have found that for NVIDIA cards going to the control panel->Sound and then the properties for the HDMI output and going to the enhancement tab and disabling all enhancements, and then rebooting the machine helps with the popping making it much less frequent.

I never had any popping sound until I switched to active PA speakers for main channels and surrounds. Now I hear a loud popping sound when I press mute, pause video, change channels on DVR. Popping also in between some commercials. Also get static when video has 5.1 and DTS.
I bought an RF wireless switch- I connect all powered speakers to a power strip plugged into the RF wireless switch. When I change inputs, mute, pause, before commercials, I press the off switch on RF wireless remote.
I'll turn off the speakers before a video plays, check osd if video is 5.1 or DTS, choosing the same input will stop static noise, and turn them back on

Hi all,
I am a new to the lounge. My UMC 200 has the popping click sound when I mute, change mode, or switch inputs. Did anyone figure out what the issue could be or a solution to this?
I read some threads talking about trying to ground the chassis. I disconnected everything from the UMC 200 but the power cable, connected headphones and i can hear the popping click in those too .. So its pretty much from the device itself
Firmware is xx.47
Any input would help Thanks
