Correct me if I'm wrong. All Emotiva amps will have the SQ at low or even med volume level. You only need more watts depends on the size of your room, how loud you listen, and the type of music you listen to. Good luck on your choice

>> So if you watch movies or listen to music at higher volumes than get the XPA-1s which have plenty of power to drive those high efficient speakers. <<
You would have to listen at insanely high volume levels in order to reasonably justify using a series of XPA-1s instead of an XPA-5. Fellas, please, enough is enough.
The XPA-5 is *more* than capable of driving his Klipsch speakers to ridiculously high volume levels with no strain whatsoever. The money saved over purchasing 5 XPA-1s would be much better spent in upgrading other parts of his system, or in purchasing (many!!) more better-quality source discs...

I think an xpa-5 will do everything you want it to They have serious power with them. Most surround channels use much less power compared to the fronts left and right and center. Since the xpa-5 has a shared power supply during these times it will be able to deliver more of the unused power to the speakers that need it (your fronts). So your fronts will be able to see more than 200 watts per channel most times. Your Klipsch are rated at 101db/1m/1watt. Which means most of the time you won't be listening at more than a few watts of power anyway. 200 watts X 5 all channels driven of undistorted 0.1% THD emo power is not equal to 200 watts of regular AVR's power ratings. You'll be very surprised at just how hefty that is.

I agree with the overall census here to get the XPA-5 The XPA-1s or an XPR-5 would be overkill and the savings on funds could be put to a nice processor. My RF-7II's have been happily married to the XPA-5 for about 6 months now and I personally have no desire to upgrade. The Klipsch are very efficient and thus far I have had ZERO noise/hiss/hum with my amp. The only addition I may make in the future is an XPA-2 if I go 7.2
Lot's of choices out there (here) so take your time and enjoy!

The XPR-5 vs XPA-5 is no contest. I have the XPA-5 and plan on upgrading to the XPR-5. My buddy who has the XPR-5 displayed the sonic and visual superiority of the XPR-5. I'm not talking theoretical mumbo jumbo here. I have the XPA-5 and heard the UPA-1 x 5 and the XPR-5. The XPR-5 dominates in all facets. And with its smoother top end, it will serve the Klipsch speakers very well. Get the XPR-5 and your amp shopping days will be done...until you go even more crazy w the XPR-1s.

G'da y all, It seems the majority suggest I go with the xpa 5, so I'm sort of leaning that way at the moment, BUT , something just keeps me hanging on to the xpr 5 ,I can't explain it, do you know what I mean? Any way I'll bite the bullet shortly and decide , bloody hard though...

It's a simple fact of life. You need more power in the following area, the sensitivity of your speaker so lower sensitivity meaning more power to play louder, the size of your listening space so the bigger the more power you need and your listening level preference. Some people are not content till the volume reach as much as the sound of a rocket lunching.

Sounds like you will eventually get the XPR-5. The question is will it be now or later?
If the XPR-5 is calling you, you will do yourself a favor and erase any doubt by getting it.

Don't get the XPR-5 because it will play louder, as everyone has said the XPA should get you there and then some. Get the XPR because it looks so cool and is built like a master work of audio. If that doesn't do it for you get the XPA. And it sounds like you have 7 channels, so whatever you decide you got to get a -2 of that too.

Once again (man am I ever a glutton for punishment!), your Klipsch speakers are *very*efficient. I used to sell the Legacy Klipschs (KHorns, LaScalas, Cornwalls, etc.) back in the day and they would get blisteringly LOUD when being driven with an NAD 320 amp. And the NAD had only 20 watts/ch.
Obviously, you're gonna do whatever you see fit. But a thinking man would buy the XPA-5 knowing that he had available waaayyyy more than enough power to have Plod knocking on yer door. And the difference between the sound pressure level generated by the XPR-5 vs. the XPA-5 is only 3db. And the price premium is $1,100. $1,100 will buy you one hell of a lot of Bluray discs and/or room treatments.
Additionally, the $1,100 could be used to finance most of the purchase of an XMC-1 processor ($1500). The benfits derived from having TacT room correction will FAR outweigh that measly 3db gain....
-RW- This is my final post on this thread, I promise! Ya hear me, Geebo?

BUT , something just keeps me hanging on to the xpr 5 ,I can't explain it, do you know what I mean? Do yourself a favor and go with the XPR-5. Curiosity will most likely get ya into one down the road anyway. FWIW, I've owned almost all the Emo amps (including the XPA-1,2,3,5) and the XPR-5 has easily been my favorite.

I recently got the XPA-5 to drive my Paradigm studio 100s + studio cc570 and my surrounds my studio 100s have an 88db @ 1 meter anechoic, the XPA5 has no trouble what so ever my room is kind of dead lots of fluffy furniture but you have to go with your gut, good luck mate.

G'day all.
Been putt'n a fair amount of thought into it , at this stage I'm still undecided , but leaning in the direction of what rlw is saying, I mean he makes absolute sense in his posts and I take onboard his advice ... My dilema is will I want the xpr 5 after a I get xpa, future proofing you might say, but as I said at this moment I lean toward xpa 5 with option of xpa2...
